A lot of people don't realize that Bev's blond bully is the daughter of the creepy pharmacist. That's why she was behind the counter when Eddie picks up his meds and she tells him they are Placebos. She signed his cast with Loser. She was also the one who told adult Eddie about the door.
Yes, indeed, the same actress who played Eddie's mother also plays his wife. In the book, he basically marries a woman just like his mom in personality and this was a nod to that. Additionally, the actress herself is not heavy. She is wearing a "fat suit".
Some of the best “author world-building chills” were from The Dark Tower series and the idea of what “IT” was. One of the more unsettling parts of rereading The Shining was Danny talking with Tony…”But you can’t stay long. Because it’s coming.” “It…” Whispered Danny fearfully…”
I cried reading the book. There are some really powerfully emotional parts in the book. I never thought a horror book would make me cry. The Eddie Richie unspoken love thing was something I never knew I needed. Also the soundtrack for both films is absolutely incredible. I sometimes listen to it in the background while I'm reading.
this movie is such a good sequel! so glad you guys dropped this on halloween!! also love your moms reaction to the beginning; we love a supportive queen ❤️
I'm pretty sure the "they don't like the end" is a real life joke on the original "It" miniseries, because the ending was universally criticized as disappointing for years, as much as I remember. We all said "a spider? That's all?" This movie carries much more punch than the original adaptation in my opinion. Great video guys!
This story is amazing. What a lot of people don’t realize without reading the book is the story isn’t about a killer clown. The clown is symbolism for fear and is the monsters “default” because it feeds on fear that is often found in children but carry’s into adulthood. The goal is to draw children in. The whole point is that childhood fears will always come back to haunt you if you don’t face them. Bill has to deal with the death of his brother Georgie which he feels responsible for due to him lying to his brother saying he didn’t feel well so he didn’t have to play with him outside, leading to his death. They never found his body. The clown is just the personification of what happened in a childs eyes when they never found him. Same with everyone else. - Ben has to deal with growing up fat and realize that getting skinny and successful doesn’t erase that trauma. Beverly has to deal with her fathers past s3xual abuse towards her, and stop loving men who remind her of him. Richie needs to deal with the reality of being gay and being in love with his best friend Eddie and stop pushing it away. Eddie needs to deal with the past trauma his mother put him through causing him to be scared of the world around him, which caused him to marry a woman just like his mom. Mike needs to confront his family’s deaths as well as realize the trauma and abuse he endured being a black kid in a primarily white neighborhood. Stanley needs to deal with his religious and family trauma. The clown is what connects them together and allows them to come together as adults to face these fears. It’s symbolism for the fact that you can’t run away from the fears (a good example of this is when child Beverly cuts her hair in attempts to separate her physical self from her past trauma as well as make her less attractive to her father, but then the next day the hair comes back out of the sink to haunt her.) When the kids asked Richie what he was scared of and he said “clowns” it wasn’t because he was actually scared of clowns, it’s because he couldn’t admit/doesn’t have a full understating of his sexuality yet. Which brings in the clown as the symbolism for the fear again. He’s able to face this fear later as an adult. The reason why Stanley committed sewer slide was because he still wasn’t brave enough to face his fear as an adult.
Great Input and I agree. The Interesting thing about Beverly is The Blood aspect, which I Took to symbolize, her Period and Womanhood. She's Defined by her actions and the Community ostracizes her and her social standing is heavily affected by Sexuality. The Omitted Orgy is a Bonding experience but probably things of that nature is where her character feels her power lies; An act Tied to Womanhood or something adults would do. Also IT- is scared of something too.
Ben said in Chapter one... "That PEOPLE go missing in Derry 6 times the national average... KIDS are the worst" So adults aren't totally safe in Derry... They just don't show that.. cause it's not the point of the main plot/story from the book. Anyways.. great reaction as always you two :) OH.. BTW.. They are working on a Prequel show called "Welcome To Derry" set to come out 2024
Ppl saying they hated the ending of Bill's book was added because Stephen King has a reputation for bad endings in his books or at least that's what ppl say. Eddie's wife is the same actress who played his mother. He grew up and married someone just like his mother just like Bev grew up & married someone just like her father. The casting for this was just about spot on, especially Eddie, Stan & Richie. The younger actors favor their older counterparts so much. That opening scene with the 2 guys at the carnival was so much like the book. They did such a good job with all the balloons floating around. Amazing
I actually liked this chapter better than the first. I had read the book which came out I was a closeted Gay teen in a racist small town. When it came to the scene of the two young Gay guys getting beat up, it was very hard for me. Now as an adult I understand what Stephen King was saying about how hateful small towns are in general. Whether they're possessed by Evil-Alien-Clown-Spiders or not. And thanks again for an amazing review, you both rock. Jen you're not an old lady, your a Queen. And Nick, let's hear it for all the fat kids that face their bullies and win. Can't wait for the next review.

I do hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Pennywise is not dead. Let me explain. IT is a creature that originates from outside of our universe, in a bigger universe that surrounds our own, called the Macroverse. The Deadlights (those orange/blue orbs) are IT's true form. IT projects itself into our universe as a physical character, whilst still remaining in the Macroverse. There's a place in the Macroverse called 'The point of No Return'. The Deadlights exist in this area. Humans can be sent into the Macroverse, and they can only be pulled back out again psychically by someone else. The 'Point of no return' is the furthest part of the Macroverse that a human can reach before they'll be lost for good, and can never return to their own universe. IT ensures it's survival by being past the 'Point of No Return', since nothing can reach it and still retain their wits and their sanity. There are other Stephen King books that hint to Pennywise's survival. These are as follows: Gray Matter (1973) - In the short story, the narrator mentioned having a friend who once worked in the sewers near Bangor, Maine. One day the man returned from the sewers with bright white hair and claimed to have seen a giant spider. The man must have looked into Pennywise's Deadlights, which would explain what happened to his hair. It's important to note that Gray Matter was published 13 years before IT was released. The Tommyknockers (1987) - The main character, Tommy Jacklin, made a supply run in Derry during The Tommyknockers. While in town, Tommy supposedly saw a "clown with shiny silver dollars for eyes” looking at him from the sewer drains. This marked Pennywise's only proper appearance outside of IT, but it could have been a hallucination. Insomnia (1994) - The novel, Insomnia, was set in Derry, the same location featured in IT. The book referenced the events that occurred in town following Pennywise's first defeat. There were also mentions of Deadlights and a character that referred to itself as Kingfish, just like Pennywise. Dreamcatcher (2001) - King's novel, Dreamcatcher, was set near Derry, Maine. One of the characters took a detour to the town and ended up at the water storage standpipe. Since the tower had previously been destroyed, a plaque stood in its place to honor the victims. On the memorial, someone had spray-painted "Pennywise Lives" insinuating that the entity could still be alive. 11/22/63 (2011) - In the novel, the main character, Jake Epping, traveled back in time to Derry in 1958 where he met a young Beverly Marsh and Richie Tozier. The interaction took place after the Losers' Club first encounter with Pennywise. Jake even overheard them mention the clown but didn't know what they meant. Elevation (2018) - King's novella was set in the fictional town of Castle Rock but there was one reference to the infamous clown. At one point, the narrator described the changing of seasons in the Maine town and the excitement for Halloween. He mentioned that the local high school would be holding their annual Halloween dance where the local band, Big Top, was playing. For the event, the band changed its name to Pennywise and the Clowns.
That above comment was meant to add to your breakdown of “IT” appearing in different books. Kings universe is awesome. Jake happening upon the Losers club was incredible
Man, this story was so well adapted to film. My favorite book. Part 1 + 2 make it whole. In the book, Ben was my favorite, but in the films Richie takes it away with humor and drama. I didn’t expect Bill Hader to act like he did. Loved it very much. Loved your reaction.
50:40 Adrian is seen again briefly. He's the guy who hands Richie the 'in memory of' flyer right before Pennywise appears on top of the Paul Bunyon statue. I'm guessing the dead gay guy appearing to Richie was another hint to his 'secret'.
Fun fact: In the book, when the zombie/ghost (of Victor Criss, not Patrick) comes to pick up Henry from the asylum, he is actually driving a car from another King book, a '58 Plymouth Fury, but you will find out more about her if you end up watching Christine.
John Carpenters adaption of Christine is by far the best King adaption. When I was a kid there was a house on my paper round that had a '58 Plymouth fury parked in their drive, terrified the crap out of me every day!, this in Scotland too, not where you'd expect to see one!.
@@scottneil1187 I love that movie, I agree it's my top 5, and my favorite books go It, Pet Sematary (my first King read at 11!), Christine for straight horror. In the book his friend broke Bowers out of the mental hospital and the car they were driving was the car from Christine. Also that scene at the beginning of the film at the fair with the two gay men was the first scene in the book. So it was just there to introduce Pennywise in the book.
The first scene is Georgie getting killed. The homophobic murder is the second. In the book they get arrested and tell the police they saw a guy dressed as a clown. I wish they had included that in the movie.
Stephen King cameos in loads of adaptions of his work and a ton of other films. The dig about endings is because people have been saying for years he doesn't know how to end a story, I don't agree but there you are. Please, please, please watch John Carpenters Christine.... pretty please!.

Everyone saying they don’t like the ending of the book is what people said to Stephen King about this book ‘IT’. Which if you had read the book it seems like it was hurried and abrupt. He was probably being sweated by his publisher or something. Still a good book though.
PLEASE watch 1990 version, all colors of balloons, not just Red. Also, Audra goes to Derry to help Bill where they reconcile. Silver the bike was in Mike garage, not pawn shop. Henry Bowers escaped institution by help of Pennywise turning into dog which was guard's fear. No throat cut. Mike was stabbed in chest and hospitalized like book, not Eddie in cheek. The Ben/Beverly was more book in 90s, not this film. They also kill IT spider creature by shooting a piece of silver (not bar) into the deadlights. Richie played Seth Green, adult Ben was John Ritter. Also real Belch Higgins actually belched, why he was named. Also in 1990 Bill recalls family album, Georgie picture winks, page bleeds. IT comes every 30 years not 27 years. It was 1957 and 1987 in book not 1987 and 2017. Lastly, in book there were 12 backstories before Loser's Club so hoping they make that as prequel.
So I saw this movie in a 4D theater when it was new, and I liked it. But while I mostly rolled my eyes at the strobes and the mist in my face and all, I still feel like the rumble chair punching me in the back during the gaybashing schene was a bit much?
When Richie was crying about Eddie made me bawl especially when they revealed that Richie was in love with Eddie 😭😭😭 The letter made me cry too.
It's been a few years and I'm still not over it. 😢

Stephen King shows up in almost all of his movies. Not the first of these two, and maybe not The Shining, but pretty much all of the rest, I think.
I found this film quite tedious and it would have been better being cut down to 2 hours at most. Bill Skarsgard was excellent, though.

So I saw this movie in a 4D theater when it was new, and I liked it. But while I mostly rolled my eyes at the strobes and the mist in my face and all, I still feel like the rumble chair punching me in the back during the gaybashing schene was a bit much?
I totally understand why you would want her with ben so bad.... I feel so sorry for you man. You mustve had it really rough growing up.
