A lot of studios just released crap because they knew it would make money. We were pretty much at the point where comic book movies are right now, (although comic movies have enjoyed a more sustained period of success) it was all getting boring. Did you even live through the 80's bruh. Scream was a breath of fresh air. Wes Craven is a genius.

Also Scream reinvented/reignited an interest in the Slasher Genre that unfortunately spawned clones of itself with shitty sequels, I Know What you Did Last Summer, Urban Legend, The Faculty, Teaching Mrs. Tingle, Valentine etc. but definitely didn't "reinvent" Horror as a whole. The 80's were definitely oversaturated with Slasher films because that's the decade in horror that really brought that sub genre to the forefront! Aside from that the 80's is loaded with classics.

Scream was fresh, I felt I hadn't seen anything like it, it brought all the elements of good horror, but also poked fun at itself and the genre, and it felt different for it, fresh; intelligent writing, witty, scary, all the elements were down perfectly - and an elusive and terrifying killer. I don't think it gets as much credit as it deserves. You named the best horror movies of the 80's in general , but it certainly wasn't indicative of the quality throughout the 80's (but again, I should have stressed that I was alluding to slashers), the highs were high with slashers and the lows were even lower.. The catalogue of movies you named as being Scream spawns maybe true (but it's also a compliment to Scream as one of the more influential horror movies in recent times) some of which were actually written by Kevin Williamson if I am not mistaken and weren't ALL that BAD, and were at the very least watchable, even if it suffered the same pitfalls of some of the terrible 80's horror films (i.e stupidly written characters, plot holes, a killer who walks always catches their victim running like a headless chicken). The Faculty was paying homage to Invasion of the body snatchers and other horror / sci fi films, although there were elements of comedy thrown in, I haven't heard anyone refer to that movie as shitty before? The 80's was 100% the undisputed pound for pound king of shitty sequels, and clones, it imploded. I still get nightmares from renting some of those shitty VHS horror movies.

My son is the one at 16 minutes that he calls the unicorn when I stand up to ask a question. He made the day so special for him all three times we saw him. On Saturday we got the autograph and the photo up and then on Sunday at the panel. He is so amazing! 🤩🤩🤩

I never watched all of Jericho but liked what I saw, and got to meet Skeet at a Jericho panel way back around 2007 or so I want to say, or a year or two later (sadly I can't find a video of the full panel where I asked my question that they used to have up!). I asked him a question at the panel, then I was a dork and asked for his name placard, lol. After the panel I lined up for the signing, and everyone was super kind and sneakily took the placard from me for him to sign and I got to shake his hand. He gave off a very warm aura, had a very firm handshake, and definitely a kind person from what I could tell in that quick interaction.

People always say don't meet your idols, but I've met quite a few of my favs at festivals and conventions and such, and they've universally been sweethearts, so... I dunno. I'd say the better adage would be "don't idolize douchebags." Then you can meet your idols all you want and have a great experience every time!
My friend and I have this trend where we teach each other a lesson once a week. We sit down and chat and just speak about one lesson we each learned. When Skeet said he learns something new everyday I liked that and it resonated with me. Knowledge is power!

Can we get a sitcom called Billy and Stu? Focused on a parallel timeline where Billy and Stu are 40 and live together because they never went on a killing spree. Billy is divorced from Sidney still filled with so so much rage and Stu is the same old loveable Stu. Some kids with Tatum maybe. Both miserable couch potatoes out of shape and in dead end jobs.
