*After Hours* storyline:
In Alone Again, he was struggling to draw the line between being in a relationship and living the nightlife. Too Late talks about how he can't be saved from himself. Hardest To Love and Scared To Live, he reminisces on hurting this lover so many times that she's hesitant to love anyone else. She ultimately leaves him, and he's kind of reflecting on that. Escape LA and Snowchild, he's reflecting on material things and women, but they all feel the same now. In Faith he parties so hard he OD's. Heartless and Blinding Lights, he's embracing the nightlife, and at the end of the songs he harkens back to a specific lover for comfort. In Your Eyes, The Weeknd suspects his lover of seeing someone else. In Save Your Tears, he tries to go back to this lover again, but this time she won't accept him. In Repeat After Me, it's confirmed that his lover finds someone else. The Weeknd is put off by this, and suggests that she doesn't love the new guy, and doing this to spite him. In After Hours, he misses this lover and the only way he can get close to his lover again is in his dreams. And the only way he can forget, is by getting high. But now, the high isn't working (after the OD scare, he realized the high he wants is unobtainable). And he's feeling lonely in those crowded rooms with all of those women that look the same. In Until I Bleed Out, he's sick of getting high, and he's sick of thinking about this lover, and the only way to stop it is by cutting himself, and bleeding out (killing himself). Final Lullaby was coming to terms with dying, and putting himself and his fantasies about his lover to sleep.
I look at this album like his Rolling Stone song. He's talking about a lover, life, drugs, and fans as a multi-entendre.
This album is "Tears in the Rain" with self regret and pain.
Frankie Russell but does heartless and blinding lights count in the album

That is not what faith is about 😂 he said faith is about his darkest time back in the kissland era, he said the sirens at the end of the song are him in the back of a cop car after punching a cop in Vegas

Faith is in my top faves too and also agree with save your tears being easy to forget to say the least... others I like are escape from LA, too late, alone again and until I bleed. On repeat. Plus also the singles he released. The few others are meh

I give major props to illAngelo on this one, Abel definitely explored more into production and you can even hear the focused, creative energy they put into this album. Not to mention also...the order of the songs couldn’t have been balanced any better.

I’ve been listening to The Weeknd since 2011 found him on tumblr and I have to say I’m so proud to be a fan cause his growth and evolving as a artist is fucking amazing like no words!

You can like feel his state of mind clearing up from" Alone Again - Until I Bleed Out" though it seems he isnt done healing yet.

I’ve been seeing a lot of comments saying that Abel fell in love with a girl, and then cheated on her in LA. I however think it’s the other way around. Abel falls in love with her, and you can tell that he wouldn’t ever leave her the first half of the album. Ultimately, it’s the girl that cheats on her current boyfriend (which isn’t Abel). We know this because in the Repeat After Me Interlude a lyric says “you don’t love him if you’re thinking of me” insisting that she has a boyfriend. In Escape from LA, a bar says “shes all mine until he calls her line”, meaning that the girl cheated on her current boyfriend with her ex boyfriend Abel. This would also explain why he overdosed later in Faith. He came to the realization that she wasn’t just his.

There’s usually a standout track in terms of sticking in your mind and from this album it’s “in your eyes” might not be the
most dynamic but it’s the one that stays in your mind after listening to the whole album

I love how much care went into making this album, making the tracklisting feel as seamless as possible, the transition from song to song is just so well executed. This album overall was a joy to listen to, I really connected to it especially on songs like "Scared to Live" (because holy shit with what is going on right now that is so god damn true) and I hope it's the next single from "After Hours but I mean most of this album apart from the interlude are ready made singles.
Favourites: Scared to Live, Blinding Lights, In Your Eyes, Alone Again, Too Late,
Least Favourite: Repeat After Me (Interlude) (it's not bad per se but just the one I connected to least)
Rating: 9/10
