    Epic Tomcat Tom, great FPV, as you know I'm a dyed in the wool F-14 fan.
    Having designed my own back in the day, these foam cats have come a long way and for sure would be proud to have one. Nice size, single battery, perfect!!
    Saving hard for mine, it's a must have for sure, really nice too to see your pilot viewpoint.
    Can't buy here until Motion RC have them in Europe anyway... My dream jet!
    Thanks for the great video!

      This is my third F-14 in 40 years! First two were scratch built. First one was a little smaller than this but had a glow engine in the nose. Painted it like #7 (mostly white with red and blue stripes). flew great! my second was a 1/10th scale that was started by Bob Kress of Kress Jets (RIP on both) and RK-40's and os max rear rotor .46. Only flew once (briefly) when a fan exploded shortly after take-off. I got her down ok, minor damage but when I replaced the fan the other one blew up on a run-up in my back yard and I shelved the project. I still have the model, hanging in my basement! This one is a joy to fly and I can't wait to get her out again!

    Hey man I hope you see this message! Ive been dabbling in scale FPV planes for a while now and your comment about yer canopy treatment peaked my interest, what exactly are you using and what is the application process? Ive just been dealing with slightly foggy canopies, and even dabbled in making my own "glass" with overhead projector sheets, but those sheets man...HUGE PAIN haha. thanks man! (subbed!)
    ( I should also note that Id rather live with a little blur than get rid of the "glass" all together)

    Nice Tom. Did you notice a shift in the CG with the wings swept back? What do you think about adding a "pull pull" system to move a sliding lead weight which would be activated by the sweep wing servos or an additional servo? The guys slope racing F3F use to employ it for precision angle of attack which results in less control surface deflections thus less drag. I'm just picking your engineering brain. lol

    • @tomhuntFPV
      @tomhuntFPV  4 месяца назад

      I have not checked the CG with the wings aft, but considering how light they are and the fact that I needed no "up trim" with the wings fully aft, I can't believe the CG is moving farther aft than the center of pressure does. I see no reason to manipulate the CG with wing sweep on this one. I do wish we could vary the gyro gain though between wings fwd and wings aft though. She does have a bit of a "rock" in roll with the wings aft that is not there with the wing fwd.

  • @ozzieparky
    @ozzieparky 4 месяца назад

    Did you have the taps fully open with the wings swept back? It looks a bit jittery and I believe on swing wing planes they need to be going faster with the wings swept so maybe it's the same on this one?

    • @tomhuntFPV
      @tomhuntFPV  4 месяца назад

      At times, yes, I did have the throttle at full with the wings aft, but she flies fine a bit slower. I don't think the model goes that much faster between wings fwd and wings aft. The wings on the full scale F-14 don't sweep back until a very high mach number (by the computer, they can be overridden) , and we don;t get anywhere near there with our models!

    I have a special request: if you put a stopwatch in front of DJI camera, is it possible to take a photo of both the real time and the dji glass to measure the latency?
    I'm really curious...

    • @tomhuntFPV
      @tomhuntFPV  3 месяца назад

      at 25frames/sec (the way I have my goggles set) you would never see the latency in a stopwatch. it's less than a tenth of a second.

    • @7BlackJack8
      @7BlackJack8 3 месяца назад

      @@tomhuntFPV Thanks. So, to keep things simple, let's assume is 1 tenth of second so 100ms.
      If i've understood, dji could have this latency (minutes:seconds:millis):
      Real time: 01:01:00
      DJI time: 01:01:10
      RIght?
      With 25fps as refresh rate obviously.

    • @tomhuntFPV
      @tomhuntFPV  3 месяца назад

      @@7BlackJack8 DJI quotes 30ms latency with their older V1 and V2 goggles and 25frames/sec. DJI Avata (goggles 2) are supposed to be at least that good at 50frames/sec
