Hate to admit it but the caravan setup makes more sense for people who travel only few months in an year. You have a daily driver in Volvo SUV plus the caravan can double as a guest room when you are not travelling...

It makes sense also if you intend camping at your destination for weeks on end.

The Marco Polo is perfect when you're travelling across the whole country staying at different places regularly and always on the move. Caravan is best if you're staying at one site for a week or more. With the Marco Polo you need to drive your whole "house" around essentially if you need to go somewhere. With the caravan you still can use your car. But it depends on the above scenarios.

Agonised over this, so two years ago bought a new double axel caravan and love it, but kept thinking about the campervan, so just ordered a new campervan due July 22. Keeping the caravan so best of both worlds.

Nice episode. I have a caravan much like the one in the video and love it. You could use a few extra's such as a mover to easily move it around at a campsite. The comfort, once you arrive, is so good that the drive to get there is just a minor issue. Besides: most miles are on highways. Use a proper satnav that avoids the small roads. And, of course, you are much more versatile in picking the car-caravan combination compared to the campervan. And who wants to drive to work in his camper? If don't like that you need an extra car for the rest of the year. That is going to cost you a lot extra. So it's the caravan for me ; )

Nope nether you should of gone with a full-size cargo extended high top van such as a Sprinter, a Pro-master, a Transit, or a Chevy Express just to name a few. But, to be honest you should go with what ever works for you and your budget. If you can't afford any of those rigs I suggests watching Cheap RV Living on RUclips. Bob from CRVL might be able to guide you to the best solution for you.

where will you park that caravan when you are back home? to the garage or to the drive way where kids are playing? and toilets smelly, hard to clean just think about the full at least 20 kg of waste to clear out. Generally you can't stop in any spot without permission on the wild (police can knock your door at 2 -3 am). you have to park in a camping place that they all have toilets and baths. caravans look smarter to use in movie sets where cast will prefer bigger ones I think. And please check van life realities not the fancy pictures and videos taken by youtubers. by the way if you fold down the back seats of xc60 you will have a nice space for a bed (with a moonroof :) wonderful in any condition rain, starry night :) ). a portable fridge, cooker and table and chair you can put them on the front seat at night. you can move your clothes and other belonging from boot to the floor of seats. I prefer this setting over caravan or a campervan. Or as a best option for beginners buy a tent or a roof tent if you wanna push yourself in to wild. if you like it so much and if you think this is your style of life 2 weeks in a year :D, then consider campervan or caravan. You know after paying bale of hardly earned money to these you will find yourself as a forced vanlife wannabe and will try to share (and attract others as many to make some money from youtube) awful moments to relieve your pain (everyone has these awkward moments darling we are not alone).
