What a thrill to be an undergraduate student at the Cleveland Institute of Music in 1973, and to be chosen to play the Glazunov Concerto with the Cleveland Orchestra. I had been loaned an Amati violin by the school, having only a student instrument of my own at the time. After this performance my mother's boss brought us to his home and showed us the most beautiful violin that had belonged to his father. The Johannes Antonius Marchi violin of 1763 is the violin that I still have to this day!
