I trained for a sub 20 5k last summer. I got it on my 2nd race after 12 weeks of training. Running 2 speed days was the key for me. Measuring your times and splits will help a lot. You can do it!
That's insane, awesome work! Can I ask what your time was initially before the 12 weeks of training? That's made me feel much more confident! Definitely need to work at different speeds and learn to embrace the slow ones.
A hard effort run was around 23:30 minutes before training sub 20. I had some weight to drop too. I’m 48 years old & have been running consistently for years.
