How can this marvelous work of genius be such a secret on YT? Depressing. It should have millions of views. Poor maestro Herr Schubert. Little recognized in his all too brief stay on earth, and now this uplifting and melodious Mass is hardly noticed in our age of mass communication. Schande!
Totally agree with you! The music, and the words, should warm up millions of souls. But now we have 'praise bands' playing disco music. I've been playing the Schubert mass (well excerpts) regularly in the 1970s as organist in Vienna. In the 1980s I played the organ in a Catholic German church in Johannesburg, South Africa. I once suggested to play the Schubert Mass, but that was rejected by the choir master lady. Very German, Schubert was too much Austrian. I now live in New Zealand. I once played some of the Schubert melodies during communion. Nobody has heard of Schubert here ....
@@hansweichselbaum2534 Oh that is so sad to hear, Hans! I know too well about disco "music" in churches. It's truly horrible, but that noise has been so loud and ubiquitous world-wide that it has drowned out real and true music. I was in Vienna recently and heard some good classical music played very well. Such a blessing. Schubert's Masses are so wonderful! I wish the Catholic Church would have concerts of the fabulous Catholic music of ages past. Btw, your name is interesting. What sort of tree is a Weichselbaum? Thank you for your reply! God bless!
@@harryhagan5937 Thank you for asking, Harry! A Weichsel is a kind of sour cherry. We had a Weichselbaum in my parent's garden. The fruit looks like a cherry, a bit smaller than a regular cherry, with a very shiny bright red colour. It tastes quite sour, unlike a normal cherry. I've never seen it outside of Austria.
@@hansweichselbaum2534 How interesting! And thanks for the answer! I was recently on a boat trip down the Donau. I especially loved Krems, a wonderful and quiet town in Austria. Linz was nice too. I wish I could have stayed to hear the Bruckner IV. That church St. Assisi near the river in Wien is an amazing construction, but it seems not to be used much. Strange. It was built to honor Sisi, whose story is amazing and also sad. All the best to you, way down under. I'd love to visit New Zealand.
