Very valuable and helpful video Jessica, thank you for sharing it. I just learnt how to make a TOC from scratch. Please keep helping folks like us with your skills and knowledge.
Honestly, the tutorial flow was a bit confusing for me but I am surprised I still find this video so helpful. Appreciate the effort and thanks a lot. Thumbs up!!
@@JessicaGarrity Firstly, I like where you point out alternative ways to get to some settings and the yellow highlights are awesome. But speaking of where I got lost is mainly at 3:15 where you include paragraph styles; I was like "How did you get them? How are the 'chapter header' and the actual chapters linked?" Or you can also mention if there's another tutorial for that or if you'll not talk about that part. So, I felt like this is more of "how to add and modify the toc instead of how to make an automatic one" whereas I was expecting for the latter part. I think that's why I got confused and lost. But please, it's just someone's opinion. No offend and I only hope it's helpful. Thanks.
Hi all! It makes me SO HAPPY that so many of you found the video helpful! There are more videos to come, so if you haven't subscribed yet, please feel free to do so!
Hi Jessica! Thank you for this helpful tutorial on how to make an automatic Table of Contents. Would you happen to know how to know how to make the TOC clickable to each page? Thank you!
ABCGraphics thank you so much! Yes, if you want it on 2 pages, you would just set it up as 2 linked text frames (one on each page). Then when you update the ToC, it will carry over into the linked frame. Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions
How do I create a ToC when I am using the Book feature (merging together a series of indesign files)? I have made a few test books as I practice but how do I make a ToC in that situation? Thank you!!
Please , how to increase numbers for example every numbers on cell +2 for example menu dishes restaurant prices , automatically increase the price 2 dollars some one know??
@@HOLBAG I think I’m starting to understand. You want to be able to automatically populate fields? Using the prices or info from another document, like an excel document?
I just want to know one thing: Why do all of these tutorials create their styles (already) and then tell you how to make a TOC? I need to know how you created the styles. Please help!
Hi Joe, it is briefly mentioned, but I don't go into it in far detail. My goal was to quickly go over the basics. Maybe I'll do a second video covering the levels in high detail! Thanks for the great suggestion
@@JoeBodego Wow, that's awesome your students watch my videos! I'll be sure to make a video specifically on levels when I have the time. Please let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know more about!
@@JessicaGarrity One of my students email this link to me and told me she was lost, i told her not to get ahead of the schedule as we are not doing a table of contents yet, anyway I looked and I realize she was stuck at "Levels" feature which is common to my students be it an "Index" level to a Bullet or numbered list, my students always get stuck at levels and this was the issue especially with 15 people on zoom, its a challenge.
@@JoeBodego gotcha, I'm sorry your students are struggling with levels. I'll keep that in mind for a future video that focuses on levels for them. Thanks!

Hi Jessica! Thank you for this helpful tutorial on how to make an automatic Table of Contents. Would you happen to know how to know how to make the TOC clickable to each page? Thank you!
Hi! You can do this in InDesigns "Interactive" settings, and then export as an interactive pdf with links to different page numbers
Is putting in your contents page best when you have completed working on a document or before?
Great tutorial! If you have a lengthy TOC is there a way to have it roll over to the next page?
ABCGraphics thank you so much! Yes, if you want it on 2 pages, you would just set it up as 2 linked text frames (one on each page). Then when you update the ToC, it will carry over into the linked frame.
Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions
InDesign is sorta like Calculus, or solving for X, or polynomials or anything math related.
lololol! I've never heard that before XD
Thank you, but how do we make it interactive for the viewer so that when they click on the table of contents, it takes them to the page
??
How do I create a ToC when I am using the Book feature (merging together a series of indesign files)? I have made a few test books as I practice but how do I make a ToC in that situation? Thank you!!
It should be similar, where you setup the paragraph styles in that final merged file, and then generate the ToC
will you plz do this again..
Hi Blue Sky! Thanks for the comment. You'd like a similar video? Anything in particular you'd like clarification on?
When I do the Numbering and SECTION option step the page numbers dont appear...why please help!
nvm figured it out
Sorry for the delay! Glad you figured it out. Let me know if you have any other questions :)
anyone know how to put a space between shapters? or even number them??
Hi @raekell, what do you mean by a space between chapters? Like the chapter title? Or the chapter number in the table of contents?
Pls help me my page numbers aren’t showing up
Please , how to increase numbers for example every numbers on cell +2
for example menu dishes restaurant prices , automatically increase the price 2 dollars
some one know??
Hi! I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. You want to automatically update numbers in a table, in InDesign? Is that correct?
imagine that I want in menu restaurant 50 dishes prices how can I change the prices each dish for example 2 dollars automatically and not manually
@@HOLBAG I think I’m starting to understand. You want to be able to automatically populate fields? Using the prices or info from another document, like an excel document?

It doesn't work with Indesign 2022...

thanks but you should have mentioned the levels, very very important feature ignored here
