      Make an IR of this type of reverb sound. Afterwards, carry out an A/B comparison of the real-time, fully analog reverb against the IR reverb when applied to the same track.

      Something I did recently is to take the Spring Reverb tank of an amp that I have and make an IR out of it. I ran the IR once with reverb on full, and then a second time with reverb on 0, and then I flipped the polarity on the dry version. It turned out really cool, especially after cancelling out most of the dry sound of the amp and cab.

    I used to do this all the time when I only had 8 inputs. Id capture the drums with close mics and once the band was done tracking id go back in and make room tracks for all the songs. Worked like a chaml every time. I didn't have as good of a monitor or as good of a room but I still got very usable results. I'm very happy to see all these years later someone else doing it. Makes me feel a tiny bit less crazy. Lol

    Great idea! When I worked for the film composer Christopher Young years ago, I remember hearing he would oftentimes do this for sampled instruments that sounded kind of 'lifeless' - in particular big church organ sample libraries. For 'Drag Me To Hell', he had the guys in his office play the organ track in the hallway and they recorded the massive reverb that would happen. It works! Huge (quiet) empty parking garages are also really cool for this experiment. But be warned that if there's security, they will most likely kick you out. I know from experience ;)

    I discovered that the cleanest "realest" way to record impulse responses is to make a balloon explode by overinflating it. The resulting IR is "omnidirectional" if that makes sense, and full range, and truly capture the room. Better than popping the balloon too, for sure. I would try re-rooming it with an IR made using THAT method. Mic the shit out of your live room and then blow up balloons.

    • @aniolbestit9357
      @aniolbestit9357 2 года назад +1

      You can send it in mono, so a drum kit in the middle of a room it's almost perceved as a mono source. You are interested in picking the with of the room, not the drum kit in that situation. But, of course, you can use two speakers if you like, aways being careful on phase relation

    • @legacyShredder1
      @legacyShredder1 2 года назад

      @@manuellujan5625 As far as quality of sound is concerned yes, however they aren't really a clone of anything specific; They're just great preamps. Keep in mind that API variants sound different, too. As far as the WA microphones, those again aren't a 1:1 clone, and even if they were you would have to go find the exact mic they were replicating. I've tried out a line of 6 different Neumann U47 tube mics, and they all sounded so different from one another. Some of them so different they could be from a different line or brand in terms of sound.
      I own insanely expensive mics, preamps, and various other gear. The price doesn't matter. It really doesn't. If you want a piece of gear because that's the one and only way to get that exact sound, then go spend money on the "high end," I suppose. There is no magical difference that some much cheaper piece from some much cheaper brand can't give you, too.
      I own the expensive stuff, because I bought into that magical thinking; "If I only had that (insert $5,000 item here) then this would be perfect!" It's bullshit. The sum total of the parts inside most of these units don't cost anywhere near what they sell for. I know this, because I've built them 1:1 identical without getting a discount for buying parts in bulk. What are we buying for these prices? We're paying for an established name from an era where little competition existed. We're paying for a limited supply. We're paying for hand built in Germany, Switzerland, USA. We're paying an upcharge due to the vintage models selling for a huge price. Paying for prestige.
      We certainly aren't paying for expensive components.
      Here is my point in this book of a comment: I own Neve's, and they're great. I own API, and they're great. I own Neumann's, and they're great.
      I own Warm Audio, and they're great. I own SE Electronics, and they're great. I own Beyerdynamic, and they're great. I own some ART gear, and dude it's fantastic.
      Parts soldered together in Mexico don't sound different from the same parts soldered together in Germany, USA, or China. Good is Good.

    That's a cool way to get your own studio's room sound into recordings done elsewhere! I guess you could potentially do that with every instrument/vocals to get a full band in your room. Especially with the way a lot of session artists and collaborations are recorded remotely (e.g that Turning Point song) it's cool that you could glue them together with real reverb from your studio.😎
    And yes definitely wanna see this done in a church with the most satanic black metal band possible. 😈
