"Local Church Calls Police On Photographer" First Amendment Audit

- We were recently in the city of Costa Mesa Capturing video & images outside Lighthouse Community Church . Almost immediately after arriving , we were approached (unknowing at the time) by the pastor wanting to know what I was filming. after an awkward silence, I continued down the sidewalk towards the main entrance of the church. I was met by at least 2 or 3 other individuals questioning my reason for recording. One guy tried claiming we were radicals when I told him what I was recording was none of his business I declined to answer any of their questions. A short time later, two Costa mesa Police Officers showed up on scene, went inside briefly to speak to the pastor, then returned outside to where I was standing attempting to find out what was going on.

OP said that, in his opinion, people can worship their God(s) from anywhere; it's not rocket science dude! I mean, what! What about displaced or sick people? Who ever had the idea that worshiping wouldn't be an option anymore? :P
For instance, if one's religion involves an all powerful and omniscient god, that is the creator of everything that ever existed, I think it wouldn't be a huge intellectual leap to conclude that their specific location when worshiping wouldn't matter all that much, no? The comment you replied to conveyed the most basic and common sense concept, something that shouldn't even be explained.

Watch how they greet people coming into church, they act all goodie, goodie, but when it comes to someone with a camera, it's a different story, then they have the nerve to say, if you are a believer you can come in, so i guess that means if your not a believer you have to stay outside, i would welcome the unbeliever in first & then everyone else, it's really bad when you have to call the police to church. I am curious if they said to them, if your a believer you can come in, it's a sad, sad world. PERIOD !

I love that the photographer challenged the reason for the cop to interrogate a law abiding citizen. The cop confirmed the photographer wasn't breaking the law. The cop is a member of law enforcement ... and admitted he had no law to enforce. The cop said he wanted to hear the other side of the story, but it wasn't a story the photographer created. Cops should leave law abiding citizens alone, especially if the law abiding citizen doesn't want to interact with a person armed with a pistol, a taser, a club, handcuffs, a badge and the apparent authority to arrest anyone and invent a cause for the arrest at a later time. ❤
WHY DOES ANYONE TALK TO COPS?
All you have to say if a cop approaches you and asks a question is “I DON’T TALK TO COPS, I HAVE LAWYERS THAT TALK TO COPS FOR ME!”...then STOP talking!!! If the cops then touches you, searches you or arrests you... You can then sue them for a minimum of $50,000 for violating your rights!

Costa Mesa cops seemed a little slow on the uptake; actually, very slow on the uptake. The church should be renamed The Touchy Feely Howdy Doody Lighthouse Community.

That one guy was kinda of creepy, calling you radicals. Church seemed friendly enough, but then they went and called the cops.
my favorite response to church folk is telling them you're doing a news story about hypocrisy one sees in the local religious community.

I looked into the recording of their live stream from this past Sunday. They offer a modern church service, with a band (drums and guitar) playing. I'm glad there's Freedom of Religion, because I'm too old-fashioned for that sort of thing. Lighthouse Church, don't play those drums too loud or I'll call the police on YOU.

Love it. Love it. I love how you are one of the few auditors if not the only auditor that hangs around after the PD leaves as opposed to leaving seconds after they leave.
It shows the ones who got educated that you were not encouraged to leave and it allows an opportunity for us to see their reaction (if any) and observe how different personalities process what just happened. LOL Thank you. If I ever get my butt out to audit I will get post reactions as well.

Off topic from the audit, It's actually cool to have a neighborhood worship center that people can walk to. Reminds me of when I'd walk to synagogue. I just wish people would chill! Honestly, I believe if there wasn't so much division sewn in this country, it wouldn't be like this 😔🙏

Please keep doing these church audits. I know some people don't like them but for me they're needed. I'm a survivor of child abuse. My parents used God and the Bible to justify abusing my siblings and I. My mother is no different than the passive aggressive people in this church. They act saved, sanctified, and Holy on Sundays...and Wednesday nights if they go to Bible study...but any other time they're nasty, mean spirited, or hateful. There was no reason to call the police on you guys just because you refused to answer their questions. You have a right to film in public and not be harassed on the sidewalk just like they have a right to practice their religion. And cops need to stop playing the feelings police if no crime has been committed. This isn't North Korea. Keep up the great work!!

@@troylee5273 Probably a lot of people don't know there is nothing illegal about filming in public. So many think he needs their permission to take their picture. I watch these videos for entertainment. I like to watch the conflict. I don't see them as an effort to educate the public on our Constitutional rights. But I do see it that way on the ID refusal videos. This is the US, the land of the free where we have the Constitutional right to not be stopped by authorities and to have to show our papers any time some cop asks for them. Totalitarian states don't have laws to protect their citizens from being hassled by the cops any time they feel like it. We are supposed to be better than that. As far as this person's motivation goes it is to make money. Really successful RUclipsrs can make a lot of money by sharing in the advertisement money.
In 2020, our senate met in an attempt at police reform. It failed miserably. One of the points discussed was limiting police contact with citizens. This video shows how unnecessary contact could cause confrontations. No crime they should move on.

@@robertgreer1401 you really sound stupid I was a youth pastor years ago I went with my then girlfriend to a state wide youth ministry gathering I had long hair and pulled into the parking lot on my 100k custom built Harley the pastor stoped us at the door and wouldn't let any of our group in he actually told us that I and three other men would have to go get a haircut before we could come in the church I have cut my hair twice sense then and donated my hair to locks for love but myself and the others haven't ever been back is that better than us with hair that looks the exact same as the pictures of Jesus Christ

Notice that as the cop turned left as he departed, he failed to properly stop at the Stop Sign and failed to use his left turn signal. The cop knew full well that he was being video recorded yet felt completely comfortable violating traffic laws for the internet to see.
As is common in these videos, no laws are being broken UNTIL the cops arrived on scene.
That tells us all we neef to know about the moral character of these cops.

Oh man! Can you do the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant? Its on Fairview Rd. I was actually the carpenter who cut all of the nice looking wood work there. When we finished the job I was told the church was going to put my name on a plaque.

Even when they're trying to be pleasant, they still can't help but give directives.
The baffling thing is that they expect freedom of religion. What you're doing falls under the same 1st amendment rights yet they have an issue with it. That's why I find these church videos so fascinating. These (imo) are way better than any other public audit videos simply due to the irony here.

i support people doing audits and videotaping since it shows were able to follow through with our rights. But what was the point of being disrespectful to the officers when they literally sided with you.
