Lived in Austin 80-82,man this is a great time capsule. I had a great time there, Clubfoot,Mother Earths,Sundowner,Threadgills, great music and nightlife . Those were the days. Thanks for posting this.
Thank you for this video took me less than 2 seconds to recognize South Lamar!! The memories passed Twin Oaks shopping center and my old high school Wm B. Travis!!!
I was feeling nostalgic and various videos about old Austin and came upon this. Such a find, this is. As soon as the driving footage began, I instantly recognized exactly where this was. That's not bad for 27+ years and the memory of 7 year old! It makes me sad to see all our major thoroughfares being jammed right to the sidewalks with these mixed use properties. South Lamar used to have such a wide open feel, but not anymore. Thanks for posting this as it helps to preserve important history.
Thanks for posting this video. You were doing dash cams before they were invented. Your video really took me back. It makes me long for those days, when life in Austin seemed slower and simpler and care free. I think South Lamar has changed more than any other street in Austin since the late 80's. Funny how driving in the city everyday, I never really noticed just how much Austin has changed since the 80's until seeing this video from that time period.
Hussein kamel that was surprising to me. And the McDonald’s being there on the corner and this was before the putt putt golf was there I believe. They passed by my fathers old office building, austin energy building, the glass building on the right on barton springs, and it still looks the same. Don’t know if the whataburger is still there though. Sandy’s hamburgers was still there I think last time I was there.
Notice how everybody were super excited about living the 80s dream.
Love this! Better cars , actually fun to drive around. No stupid ass cell phones!

The Genie Car Wash shown at 1:12 is no more. They recently bulldozed the property.
1:26 Foodland
I forgot that location, the one on Ben White was my first job at $3.40 a hour.
That location later became Cutrer's City Market

Niko Bellic My thoughts exactly no weather manipulation back then
Cool video
Damn, I still live here. You could actually really drive down first and lamar back then instead of crawl.
awesome
South Lamar is turning into Katy Freeway
I keep thinking I should do that - shoot some video of ordinary street views - but I never actually get around to it . . .
Was there a trans am convention in town?
A better time
