It's called 'slow burn.' And yes, the anticipation existing between them is SO much hotter (to me anyway) than them actually 'doing the deed.' That said, I do hope they get together in Season 2.

it's not about religion it's CULTURE and even then the show really presents Nadia's dad in the wrong way he is just trying to protect his daughter from a white boy he believes is racist and not good for his daughter and I really could see that seeing as Guzman's not the greatest person. he's only trying to protect his daughter the only way he knows (it might not be the best but his hearts in the right place). I'm disappointed in the show presenting the stereotypical 'sexist mean cultural' dad when in fact this 'toxic' man is trying his best to protect his family from the racist evil ppl of the world, which is literally the ignorant brats in the school which included Guzman at one point.
