RIP Terry Hall, another early 80s icon.
Marc was gorgeous back in the day. My favorite look is "Secret Life".
Like Japan, the moment they became famous, they realized they didn't like the pop star game and drew inward. This made Almond and Ball more idiosyncratic as individuals, which led to Soft Cell's breakup. But it was wonderful while it lasted.
"Bedsitter" and "Sex Dwarf" are 80s classics. I'm sick of "Tainted Love" but I see its significance. I like Almond's early solo stuff even better.
Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret is one of the definitive 80s albums.
Now I want to hear more of their stuff.
I love the first album but I think Art of Falling Apart is more challenging. It's a grower.
It's harder to get into but it's worth the patience.
The textures and the subtle (as opposed to obvious) melodies are why I like AoFA.
I never really got into this style but these guys had some songs that transcended synthpop. The last two albums are kind of avant-garde.
I wonder what happened to Cindy Ecstasy?
Apparently, no one knows, not even Marc Almond.
You should add screen shots of their videos.
