Shum was pre-Christian Slavic god of forest and custodian of forest groves where our ancient ancestors held rituals including meeting of Spring (ancient Slavs celebrated New Year in spring when Nature was resurrecting). People sang songs with a lot of words with "SH" sound - they believed that they would wake Shum and trees from winter sleeping. Even after adoption of Christianity in 988AD, the Church struggled against those customs till 17 century (old sacral tradition was changed to play-dance). But Go_A transferred the athmosphere of that spring celebration very well. Thanx for reaction from Kyiv 🇺🇦(or as Your ancestors called that city as Könugard, Arheimar or Danparstadir)👍❤

this is the Ukrainian deity spirit! Which is no longer anywhere in any "pre-Slavs" !! Do not throw nonsense, and do not erode our roots by artificial attribution of our separate Ukrainian culture, to all Slavs! Croats, Poles, Slovenes, and other Slavic peoples do not know about any god of noise "SHUM", - because this is a local our Ukrainian deity! Stop fooling around and spreading all our Ukrainian culture to all Slavs!

    • @TheOlgaSasha
      @TheOlgaSasha 3 года назад +4

@@avaheih 1. First of all, I didn't write nothing about "pre-Slavic" - this is just your invented fantasy. 2. If we talk about pre-Christian tradition of RUS (i.e.before 988), there were no Ukraine or Russia at that time, there were just East Slavic, Baltic and some other tribes with predominantly Varangian warlords elite within RUS. 3. Shum is known not only in Ukraine. In Serbian "shuma" still means "forest", in some Slavic countries (Macedonia, Russia and others) there are forest complexes called "Shumski les". So "nonsense" is your irrelevant knowledge of history and teadition of Ukraine and other Slavic countries...

больная. Почитай как раньше назывался "лес" на украинском языке. Песня исконно украинская, а не славянская и тому прочее.

    • @TheOlgaSasha

THE TEXT OF THE SONG has deep folk roots, 1000 years long.
This is an electrofolk reworked spring song(VESNYANKA).
VESNYANKA - a ritual song for invoking spring after a long winter,
and at the same time an allegory of getting rid of the coronavirus.
People welcomed spring and rejoiced in the warmth.
The more and faster you dance - the sooner Spring will come.
The very active dancer is the first of the crowd,
who began to come to life and pass the spring mood to the rest.
SIYU VIYU KONOPELECHKI - sow and blow CANNABIS.
CLOTHES of the ancient Slavs were created from CANNABIS

With this song they are calling spring to us . But these costumes do not
interfere with singing about the awakening of nature and the sowing
holiday. The song is about the fact that life goes on even if COVID
changes our appearance and our lives. Spring will come and there will be
    a noisy holiday.

In general, the content of this song is difficult to translate. As a native speaker of the Ukrainian language, it is also difficult for me to understand certain words that are ancient Ukrainian or dialectal, especially since it is a traditional Ukrainian song with which our people celebrate spring from ancient times and rejoice in it. The Ukrainian word "Shum" translates as "Noise", but the old Ukrainian word "Shum" means "Forest". Somehow everything is so confusing))). "Noisy Forest" - a forest that has woken up and makes thousands of sounds. The main content will look like this: Our Noisy Forest has beautiful green clothes. The girls were walking in that forest and accidentally damaged the green clothes of the forest. Noticing this, they decided to correct their mistake and restore the beauty of the green clothes of the forest to admire it again. In addition, many hemp was sown. :) like this.

When Shum is "weaving", pairs of dancers staying in semicircle, one pair forming "gates" with their hands and all other pairs crossing the "gates". When last one passed, "gates" changed direction of pairs moving, this is called "unweaving" shum: "gates" pair creat new "gates" with opposites hands and all pairs crossing it again and game continues, but faster and faster.

They announced in Ukraine that GoA used well known folk song for Shum what is breach of EU rules because it is not original. So this could be disqualified if it is not changed.

It feels like they took a lot from their song last year but incorporated Russia and Iceland 2020's entries with the pandemic theme. The song stands out but I doubt I will listen to this a week after Eurovision ends.
