Seriously, the FGC is really good anime material. I'm surprised that nobody ever tried to make some show about a guy just going to tournaments and getting slowly better. Just imagine, a show where you can actually hear the thoughts of the players while they both try to figure out each other games
As an Anji player, I have never felt more connected to another human being than when describing how the Gio vs Anji matchup is once the Gio player realizes they can just tilt you on demand.

I experienced the same thing as Gekko did, I went 0-2 in all my tournaments for like 2-3 years despite putting hundreds and hundreds of hours and despite the game. As a result, I was ready to retire. My good friend convinced me to attend the Big E tournament (bless his soul) Summer Jam in New Jersey and I said screw it let's go. I went 0-2 in Strive and 0-2 in SFV. My soul was absolutely crushed, but I still had 1 more tournament, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2. My first round I was trounced, I couldn't barely do anything, but the moment I hit losers, I told myself "No, not like this...not like this..." I proceeded to climb losers all the way to losers finals, I had finally placed top 3 for the first time in so many years of playing fighters and at a major of all places. It was magical, I was cheering, my heart was racing and I was crying so hard. I lost losers finals but at that point I've never, EVER been happier playing a fighter. I even won a third place medal to immortalize it! Here I am, a few years later now competing in 5 games at Frosty Faustings 2024, this year I'm looking to make it out of pools in Strive! Whenever Gekko achieved his goals, I truly understand that feeling, and it reminded me why I love playing fighters so much.
So a couple things from this video: 1: I want to learn how to actually get good at Strive 2: you’re really fucking good at script writing, like genuinely way better than I initially thought 3: I need to play the NMH games. 4: Strive loading screens are hilarious

Yo!!!! I am from Alaska and have never entered a tourney ever (we don’t have locals and people kick us when they see our ping). I went to EVO this last weekend and made it out of pools! I had Idom in my first bracket and Daru I-No in my second! It was amazing!!! I’m still riding high from it!

Hey man, i wanna thank you for making these videos. In addition to being well edited and well made as a whole. Watching someone else's journey progress has inspired me to progress my own journey too. Basically this reignited the spark ive had for strive and other fighting games. I stopped playing before this. As fighting games were kinda putting a strain on my mental health. Id beat myself up after every loss and ended up learning nothing from them because of this. After a break and finding this video my passion was reawakened. I plan on going to a local in the city 30 minutes away from me. And i also recently hit celestial again. So things are looking up
Having got strive only a week ago Getting bodied by the cpu and starting floor 4 Practicing in arcade and learning some bare bones knowledge And making it to floor 7 I clicked on this video as a hope it would help me learn what i need to do to get good, and that is not what this video us about. It is your journey, not a guide, but it still managed to teach me just the simple things I haven't done yet. Review vods, learn match ups, understand not just your character, but what the other characters need to do to you to win. Control tilt. Its a masterful story and beginning to a journey, and one i believe will lead to more journeys for others too.
oh my god the perfect use of "a stranger i remain" in the I-NO fight was just perfect, starting the match with the instrumental version but then the epic build-up of the lyrics at the climactic finish was just beautiful

That last game in grand finals was so stressful, congrats on the win! I really admire you for the effort it must have taken to put this together, and also for not giving up despite your problems with failure in the short term, tilt and low self esteem. That perseverance is an amazing quality to have. I have gone through a very similar process with a few things in my life, sad periods and tilt included, and eventually you do end up getting somewhere. It might not be exactly where you want to be at the exact time you want it, but eventually your effort does pay off, even if it really doesn't feel like it at the time. Psyched the next video + maybe see you around at some point fellow Yorkshire strive player!
Good video. Even though you are having trouble with tilt its the good type of tilt. Instead of blaming the opponent and the match up you blame your self and that's good you are never gonna learn if you don't realize your own mistakes and faults. So keep up the grind and learn from your mistakes.

Don't usually comment on videos but gotta say what a great video. Kept me on the edge of my seat! Strive is one of first fighters I decided to get into and am also a gio player, was very inspiring to me to see this.
I absolutely loved the intro dude no more hero’s is like my second favorite thing on the planet(right after guilty gear of course) I’m not even past the intro and I’m already excited
I want to mention that gio player in round one of the locals, as someone who has had a similar experience to them at yugioh locals, I know well the feeling of showing up to locals and being heavily outmatched, after the match while others were still finishing their games I was talking with my opponent about he game and mistakes I made/places for improvement and that as well as the match helped me learn a lot I enjoyed it, I imagine it was similar for the gio (without the post match discussion)
I’m new to fgs so seeing the idea of making a checklist actually made me make one of my own. I’m not very far into it cus im still learning but it’s nice to have something like that. Thank you for the idea and great video
Finally found the time to watch this "movie". It'll be the video I recommend to people that want to know what it's like to try to get better at fighting games. It heavily mirrors what my time was like when I was trying to get characters into Elite Smash and fighting my friends that go to tournaments regularly. .... Yes I did say characters with an "s". When I had all the time in the world growing up, I had to master everything in every game I touched, so I tried to get good with every character in Smash, but uh, fighting games ain't exactly like that since they are like a combination of most skills you need from all other genres of games and you also have so many more options in any situation. Hence why I ran into tilt and such with Elite Smash because Ultimate was far better about matching people up with your skill level, and I couldn't just counter pick a person's character/playstyle with a different character I play, along with my super try-hard friends. With 2 of them being the best smashers I've ever faced. Been so used to winning all the time, so it was a very hard kick to my face with feeling like I was losing constantly. I may never be the type of person to want to go to a tournament, but I definitely look forward to trying to do a similar thing with Strive. However, since I've done it before in Smash, I feel like a lot of these feelings and stages of getting better will go by significantly faster since Smash put me through that pain already, so it's been fun getting better at Strive. = ) Currently trying to main Jack-O because she has the most reasons going for her. Swapping between analytical and "adult" personality to a very childish and playful personality is something very relatable for me and some people comment on that from time to time. Also yaaay Halloween theme! The best holiday, and mask looks nice! She reminds myself to do flexibility exercises since Jack-O's crouching pose is actually pretty fun to do... and I maaay do it from time to time while playing games =p Also her story in Strive reminding me to remember to relax + have fun with life and that it's not all about obtaining an end goal. I didn't mention gameplay because I've played so many games over the years that I can enjoy or do well with any type of gameplay, buuuut I've always wanted to do a minion based character. Platform fighters don't really have one and Rosalina is the closest thing to that, and I haven't seen one in the other fighting games I have played. Minion based characters seem to have a lot of adapting on the fly, which is one of the things I love about smash. We shall see if I stick with her. I cannot play japanese voices with her at all, japanese Jack-O hurts my ears (same with May). She is one of the hardest characters supposedly (and I don't have the time to lab 24/7 like I used to). Also she might be a tilt inducing character more-so than most other characters in the roster and I don't like making my opponents mad. Sorry for the long comment, but watching this video has got me excited = )

Good video. Even though you are having trouble with tilt its the good type of tilt. Instead of blaming the opponent and the match up you blame your self and that's good you are never gonna learn if you don't realize your own mistakes and faults. So keep up the grind and learn from your mistakes.

Don't usually comment on videos but gotta say what a great video. Kept me on the edge of my seat! Strive is one of first fighters I decided to get into and am also a gio player, was very inspiring to me to see this.

I want to mention that gio player in round one of the locals, as someone who has had a similar experience to them at yugioh locals, I know well the feeling of showing up to locals and being heavily outmatched, after the match while others were still finishing their games I was talking with my opponent about he game and mistakes I made/places for improvement and that as well as the match helped me learn a lot I enjoyed it, I imagine it was similar for the gio (without the post match discussion)

I’m new to fgs so seeing the idea of making a checklist actually made me make one of my own. I’m not very far into it cus im still learning but it’s nice to have something like that. Thank you for the idea and great video
Finally found the time to watch this "movie". It'll be the video I recommend to people that want to know what it's like to try to get better at fighting games. It heavily mirrors what my time was like when I was trying to get characters into Elite Smash and fighting my friends that go to tournaments regularly.
.... Yes I did say characters with an "s". When I had all the time in the world growing up, I had to master everything in every game I touched, so I tried to get good with every character in Smash, but uh, fighting games ain't exactly like that since they are like a combination of most skills you need from all other genres of games and you also have so many more options in any situation. Hence why I ran into tilt and such with Elite Smash because Ultimate was far better about matching people up with your skill level, and I couldn't just counter pick a person's character/playstyle with a different character I play, along with my super try-hard friends. With 2 of them being the best smashers I've ever faced. Been so used to winning all the time, so it was a very hard kick to my face with feeling like I was losing constantly.
I may never be the type of person to want to go to a tournament, but I definitely look forward to trying to do a similar thing with Strive. However, since I've done it before in Smash, I feel like a lot of these feelings and stages of getting better will go by significantly faster since Smash put me through that pain already, so it's been fun getting better at Strive. = )
Currently trying to main Jack-O because she has the most reasons going for her. Swapping between analytical and "adult" personality to a very childish and playful personality is something very relatable for me and some people comment on that from time to time. Also yaaay Halloween theme! The best holiday, and mask looks nice! She reminds myself to do flexibility exercises since Jack-O's crouching pose is actually pretty fun to do... and I maaay do it from time to time while playing games =p Also her story in Strive reminding me to remember to relax + have fun with life and that it's not all about obtaining an end goal. I didn't mention gameplay because I've played so many games over the years that I can enjoy or do well with any type of gameplay, buuuut I've always wanted to do a minion based character. Platform fighters don't really have one and Rosalina is the closest thing to that, and I haven't seen one in the other fighting games I have played. Minion based characters seem to have a lot of adapting on the fly, which is one of the things I love about smash.
We shall see if I stick with her. I cannot play japanese voices with her at all, japanese Jack-O hurts my ears (same with May). She is one of the hardest characters supposedly (and I don't have the time to lab 24/7 like I used to). Also she might be a tilt inducing character more-so than most other characters in the roster and I don't like making my opponents mad.
