  • Jen Beagin's Big Swiss is the messy, hot, lesbian, up-market literary novel that's destined for the small screen. Referred to as a letter from Penthouse Forum set in Hudson about trauma ...and all the trigger warnings.

      So I'm learning! I wonder if that's something I'll start noticing like when I learned Quentin Tarantino had a foot fetish and then Once Upon a Time In Hollywood took on a whole new angle.

    Hi! Just found your channel and just finished Big Swiss. I love your review here. Very thoughtful! I have never read a book like Big Swiss and it will take a few days of thinking about it. I loved parts of the book, but the ending was underwhelming.

    I just finished listening to the audiobook, I feel like Rebecca Lowman really brought Greta to life, and I agree with everything you said! Loved it in a very cringey yet addictive way!

    I read this and got exactly what I expected, odd characters and odd story. It was so different of a read. Totally agree, would do great on film. Gwendoline Christie has to play the Big Swiss.

    I read Big Swiss recently and I honestly still don’t know entirely how to put into words my reading experience. On the one hand, I was sucked in by the chaotic writing style and on the other hand, I was really turned off by Greta’s overall characterization and her weird choices throughout the story.

    • @ThePoptimist
      @ThePoptimist  Год назад +1

      Weird choices indeed - she is an absolute mess, there's a diaper at one point for crying out loud. I think that chaos will translate well on screen with the right actor though

    I don't know if it's true, but I read that Jodie Comer bought the rights to bring Big Swiss to the screen and plans to play Flavia. ❤ I'm at the part where they just met in the dogpark and I'm loving it.

    I forgot to mention that the audiobook narrator's voice for Flavia was a dead-on impression of the IG Sad Beige voice for Werner Herzog, It made me laugh every time I heard it. Enjoy your trip to Portugal, favorite locale for Urban Sketchers everywhere, and good luck getting time to read this months honker of a pick. :)

    Edit: forearms are for sure a thing for heterosexual women, i.e. a man rolling up the sleeves on a button down shirt. I imagine it's the same no matter the sexuality of the forearm admirer

    • @ThePoptimist
      @ThePoptimist  Год назад +1

      I've learned that forearms are totally a thing for heterosexual women, like the female equivalent of foot fetishes - though I wonder if there's a subgenre of Only Fans that's just forearms. Tell me because there's no way I'm trying to find out.
