    I don't know if it would make a difference but you may want to look up vented attic and convection. Hot air (roof vent) is usually the exhaust, you could get "fresher air" from the overhang or gables.
    It was nice to see the immediate results.

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  3 года назад

      Agreed! its inches away from the roof cap vent so i think its about as fresh as im going to get! :) any further and i need a good 15' or more of tubing which adds restriction and limits air

    • @jmboulware
      @jmboulware 2 года назад

      @@ReefDudes his point was you're in the wrong position to get the freshest air. The ridge bebe is where hot air leaves the attic, the soffits are where the fresh air enters. If you move your filter down to the end of the rafters where the soffit vents are, that's where you'll get your freshest air.

      dont you have to do one or the other? Kalkwasser or a calcium reactor? I am new at this so still learning, and have yet to dose anything. Also what is a kalk reactor? I thought people dripped kalk in their ato? Also is limewater or whatever its called kalkwasser? I was going to start with 2 part instead of kalkwasser since I am new and seemed easier but I diffidently need ph raised and also live in hot humid florida so not sure if outside airwould work for me. First thing to do is order that co2 meter and see where I stand. The tank is in my den and I spend a lot of time right next to it with my 2 dogs!!

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  3 года назад

      @@karennation3580 You could do both! no need to limit your self to one method. If you can open a window or get fresh air to your skimmer thats the free option! but it all depends where you live and the climate there :) If you already have a good PH you may not even need to worry about it

    I use controlled and monitored ozone from inside air, into co2 scrubber and then through the skimmers air intake. I find this too prevents low PH during the winter months. ORP and PH work in unison to some extent if correctly applied.

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  3 года назад

      Do you find ozone affects PH directly?

    • @louise7141
      @louise7141 3 года назад

      @@ReefDudes
      Yes absolutely. Ozone helps maintain a solid ORP in the range of 350/450mv This is a direct stabiliser for PH. With a monitor/controller you get to see how ORP drops after feeding and when the lights go off for example. The ozone kicks in and works to raise ORP quickly and the by product of this is the PH doesn’t dip and swing as bad.
      Winter PH swings due to local air quality isn’t a issue.

    To me as I have seen the colder outside the higher my ph runs but here we are in November and still having 70+ days and it still runs 7.6 to 7.8. I also noticed I had a lot of green algae growing in my sump on pumps, heaters, skimmers and walls from Fuge light. My ph ran more 7.89 up to 8.02, and like a idiot I cleaned my sump and now ph is back running 7.6 to 7.8. The line outside helps in colder weather and the more stuff growing in the sump really help.

    Hey 👋🏼 bro! Man, I just wanted to let you know my experience with Low pH. I’ve always been a pH freak even when people say it doesn’t matter or that I was wasting my time monitoring it. IMO, I think it can tell you quite a lot about your tank. My tank was running about 7.9-8.0 after being setup for 1 year. This was monitored with a Apex Lab Grade double Junction pH probe ($74 dollar probe). I also had a Milwaukee monitoring with the same probe and it was a very accurate pH meter. Then I’ve tried Pinpoint which for me has been the most inconsistent and inaccurate of everything I’ve used. Long story short, my CaRx was driving down my pH hard. I’m talking 7.3 and it probably would have gone lower, but after I saw it that low I turned my CO2 scrubber back on. The best thing I’ve found to increase pH (although expensive to maintain) was definitely the recirculating CO2 scrubber fed into my skimmer cup. It was hitting 8.3-8.4 during peak lighting. I also dosed fully saturated Kalk w/ GHL 2.1 SA and at the time in my 75/G I was dumping about 3 Liters every week. The faster you dump it, obviously the more effect it has on the pH. However, it also spikes the water every time it hits. So it’s good, but kinda bad at same time. Imagine....-......-.....-.....- Get my point.? I ended up dosing more but at a less potent dose. In the end, the CO2 scrubber beat them all out. Plus my skimmer was pulling outside air which surprisingly gives you a pretty decent bump. My second chamber on the CaRx was nearly a waste of money. Those are my thoughts. 🙂

    • @ReefDudes

      Did you try scrubbing outside air with media vs recirculating? That is another one I have been debating

  • @justanotherfaceinthecrowd
    @justanotherfaceinthecrowd 3 года назад +1

    Hey Devon, do you have many houseplants? I can see one I think in the background.. but a few more would help a little too.. co2 media exhausts pretty quickly from what I’ve read, so can get expensive keep replacing it..
    also with a recirculated co2 I’ve always wondered what happens should the skimmer overflow and end up pushing the media or water passed through the media into the tank?
    Made me itch just watching you in the loft I hate insulation 😆

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  3 года назад +1

      Yep lots of plants! even more lately since the wife brought a bunch in when it got colder. I'm hoping the media will last a long time using out side air.. but time will tell! hehe dang insulation! i hopped into the shower after that one :P
