  • We get our own taste of Top Gun as Dan Millican and Dean Siracusa get to visit a Flying Club north of London (North Weald airfield) that has jet trainers. Dan flies the Provost JP-3 and Dean get the JP-5. Special thanks to Adam Heit for making this possible and pilots Chris Heames, Paul DOust and Oliver Wheeldon.

    This was GREAT, Dan! Looked like so much fun! So beautiful out there - looks a lot like the area I live in from the air. Lots of green - mixed farms and trees. Those guys are great for taking you guys up! 👍😎👍

      See all that yellow underneath? The whole UK was that way. Apparently where we get canola oil from.

      @@TakingOff AHH, interesting!! I was wondering what that was - figured it was sunflowers or something, but that didn't make sense since the season is so early.

    Hello from Minnesota USA! I can't wait to go to England!!

  • @peteranderson037
    @peteranderson037 2 года назад +5

    One thing I've noticed that is a major difference between here (the US) and a lot of the rest of the world is that often times the initial barriers to certain activities here can be shockingly low. However, once you are past that initial barrier you have very little upward mobility. Often, exponentially increasing cost from one level to the next is the barrier. Other times it is Byzantine bureaucracy. Meanwhile, in many places, like the UK and Europe, the initial barriers can be significantly more difficult to get past, but once you are past them you have far greater latitude than in the US.

      Interesting. What are some specifics?

    • @smokingspitfire1197
      @smokingspitfire1197 2 года назад +2

      I don't think this is quite true. (As a british pilot, infact one of the ones in this video) who also flies significantly in the USA. Upward mobility is insanely hard here in the UK. We just have a few things we do better, like jets. But it's still far easier to progress as a pilot in the US.

      Hi Kevin. I live not far from North Weald, and the beautiful countryside they flew over is Essex where I live and learnt to fly. All US aviators welcome, just dont say do you like my pants, us uptight Brits might get the wrong idea and spill our afternoon tea!🤣🤣

    NICE.... first jet flight i did was in the provost when i was in the air cadets back in the 90s. those that caught the bug went on to learn to fly gliders, then chipmunks and so on. I got as far as the chipmunks before i left the cadets

    OMG Dan I cant believe you were at North Weald! I know it exceedingly well and live 5 mins from the Hanningfield reservoir you flew over! That main road was the A12, I drive on it most days. I learnt to fly at Stapleford which is a couple of mins flying time from North Weald. Small World! Very jealous of your flight in the Provost, look great fun what an experience, and loved the video😃😃

    I agree with them that Rest Room and Bathroom don’t really make sense but would love to hear their logic with calling it a “Water Closet”

    • @stuartessex4535
      @stuartessex4535 2 года назад

      Hi Mike from the UK! I think it is an old expression from the 1800's. The loo was put in a redundant closet and given a water supply, hence 'Water Closet'. We generally say Toilet or lavatory, or Khazi (Carzy) or Bog if you are a cockney. P.S don't go into an English petrol station and ask for 'Gas'. They will sell you propane gas for your BBQ!😂
