I love how you start the video. Soft with music and watching chores. Its quiet relaxing and then to watch Meg cook breakfast! It's awesome. Ben I love it when you have side projects! Love the seedlings.
I love it when I get to watch, but I'm usually working or driving with my phone in my pocket. I create a playlist ahead of time. I get to wondering what the music is with no talking, then think, "ah, it's the Hollers, they'll talk in a minute."
Fantastic!!! And congrats. Good job. I love watching you, Your program helped to get me through over two years of not being able to breath much less speak, I am finally trech free and can speak once again! Yeah!!! Now I am buying approximately five acres to build my forever home and GARDEN to my hearts content. I can hardly wait to plant my orchard, have chickens, geese, turkeys, even pigs! Seventy-one is just the beginning! God Bless. Love to your family!
Wow! You are such an inspiration to me! You have gone through so much, but the Lord is faithful and you will soon have the desire of your heart! Praise God! May the Lord continue to shower you with blessings. And you’re right - 71 is not too old to follow your dreams. 🥰
Sending lots of love and prayers your way. I too have had health problems and watching their vlogs is so inspiring, even if I am down and out for the count. I had an allergy to a medication and almost died. Yes, I was in the hospital, and they weren't sure I would make it. I pulled through that, but now watching my heart to make sure that's ok. Keep up the good work, and I am proud of you for wanting to have the homesteader's life, it's a lot of work, but you can do it at any age, start out slow and build it up. You ARE inspiring. So, follow your dreams!
Thank You for all the videos in March - been missing you guys please keep it up to some measure- i know it’s a lot of work, but it’s like when a network show goes away for a long break -we miss you!
I use 1/2” pvc to make hoops to go over the beds this time of year. Drive some rebar in the ground and slide to pipe over it, drape ago bond over top and sand bags to hold in place. Just to get you to Mothers Day
I also love how you put such amazing meals on the table for your family. Always getting such good meals. You also include how they became ready from scratch (seed to table), for your family to eat. How much they all love the meals. Weather you can them freeze or cure them. I see how much love you put into each thing. You have a lucky family that all works to get to these beautiful meals in some way. Feeding the animals might be harder this year, as I heard they might be having a shortage of food for them. Also being careful of the chickens as there is something going on with the birds, so keep them on their own for a little longer. Cows tongue! That reminds me of when we were kids. We had to pick something we have never had before to eat on our birthdays. We got creative!! Cows tongue was one of them. Yep, Mom had to cook whatever we picked. Yes, she took taste buds (skin off) when she was getting it ready, I think after it was cooked. We ended up loving it, and it did taste like corned beef. I am not sure how you are making it so will surely watch that being done, or how you say you prepared it different. I always do corned beef for St Patty's Day, so yummy, and then have the sandwiches later (Reubin's). If I have a big one, I always have it cut in half and freeze one for later when you can't get it. I also love how you and the other Homesteaders are always there for each other. You all make such a great community. That says a lot about homesteaders, always having each other's back and helping new people out too! God Bless.
Hey Ben and Meg, another great video! Your egg preserving will be great but you should also consider some breeds of chickens to your flock that lay during the cold winter months. 1. Barred Somborska Kaporka 2. French Faverolles (bantam) 3. Houdans 4. Russian Orloff 5.Sulmtalers 6. Thuringian Bearded Most of these are not great layers when it is warm, but they really shine when cold weather arrives and your regular chickens aren't cooperating. Water glassing is good as long as you know that whipping the whites isn't an option.
My mom used to cook the tongue and then she and my dad ground it in the meat grinder. My mom added mayo, mustard and stirred them all up together. We ate it in sandwiches (home made bread, of course).
I know you have to have a greenhouse on your list. That would make everything better. Ben could upsize pots and keep going. You could throw a space heater in there on cold nights... or those chicken heat lamps. .
🙋🏼♀️🕊. Blessings to you and your family. Look forward to seeing you all together.good luck with the chickies 🐥🐣🐤. The brisket looks great. You are a Wonder Woman in the kitchen 👸
Love how you are doing daily videos. Love how your family lives and works together, enjoying the fruits of your labor. You are living the good life, not easy, but good. God bless all of you.
I have been watching you all for awhile, you all have come a long way, great job. Baby girl is getting so big, she so has daddies eyes. Thanks for sharing your life. 🙂❤️
Glad your doing video a day! I appreciate that you work so hard to entertain and inform all of your viewers. I remember eating corned beef for St. Patrick’s Day and oh the many tongue sandwiches with horseradish sauce at our house. Had some great friends that owned a farm and we help them a lot and it worked out great we traded labor for food!
Hello beautiful Hollar family. 🥰 l love everything about the video. I'm elated you are posting more. The newly prepped garden beds look so easy to plant in. You should have an awesome growing season. God Bless.
You guys are 1 of 6 Homesteader families my daughter and I watch as often as possible. We need all the good mentoring we can absorb. We have the same dream. Thank you for all you are teaching us. Happy Friday!
Ben and Meg are the reason we got started with our homestead, totally great way to learn about the lifestyle, and a great inspiration to make the massive change. We've barely started and it's been totally worth it, and in large part it's thanks to the Hollars.
Pop your seedling trays in a tray of your wonderful nettle or comfrey (or whatever you have) tea. Let them soak for a while and they will hydrate and feed at the same time. Spray some diluted whey over them too.
Loving your daily videos. So glad the chic's arrived safely and the corn beef turned out so good. Your world is rocking. Oh, you can eat Loofa in their young stage too.. 💖
It's funny, I looked at my partial bag of seed starter mix... and decided over the weekend to buy a new bag. The Organic was actually cheaper than the non-Organic! I only bought basil & cherry tomato seeds, I've got a lot of leftovers from last year to try.
The start of your video was beautiful with sunrise, and fog with the trees in the back ground. Luffa can also be eaten. You harvest the luffa when young, and cook them like you would zuchini. Corned beef, and cabbage oh my!
Love all your videos….especially having one each day is like frosting on a cake🍰!! The beautiful opening scenes were beautiful and serene…absolutely gorgeous💜! The corned beef looked sooooo good! Thank you for your daily videos🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗!!
Love the now consistent uploads and your videography style is great. Hope you can be encouraged to continue. Your family is lovely (little "Bug" is becoming such a highlight ❤) and your work is inspiring. We look forward to each and every video you share.
Love sharing in your life! Meg’s such a great cook, she takes good care of your/her family. Can’t wait for spring and warmer weather. Can’t get over the boys not wearing shoes in the colder temps. Love your life❤️
I love watching you and your family. Making so much food. Makes me so hungry. Your family is so close it inspires me. Wish I had close net family like you guys do. Thank you for sharing your life journeys with us.
Love seeing Buggy charge out the door to get the chickies! She's so much like our youngest. Totally with you about the chicks - a lot of them can die just getting out of the egg - less than ideal conditions and it happens, and being shipped is hardly ideal, even for chicks as strong as the ones that make it out of the shell.
The newborn miracle babies from the 1985 Mexico City earthquake survived days under the rubble of a hospital. Not comparing chicks to human babies, just pointing out how amazing creation is.
I understand the urge to plant early. The starts are ready because I seeded early, lol funny how that happens. I have been useing totes like raised beds. ( being 83 this year) hate getting down to plant. However, I digress, when I plant the starts out early, I found some clear plastic totes placed upside down over them acts like a mini green house and saves them from late frosts. Thanks again for sharing more posts. Your efforts are very appreciated. Would have loved to taste that corned beef.
Oh that corned beef looks amazing, lots & lots of work went into making it but it was worth all the effort. The look of joy on Meg's face when you tried the corned beef says it all. I love serving hot corned beef with an onion & mustard sauce.... so delicious !
Growing up on a farm my dad always had a really large vegetable garden - I mean a small paddock size. Anyway fertilizer was made from cow poo (of which with 70 odd cows we of course had a fair quantity). The recipe was pretty basic - take one 44gallon drum and fill it by a third with the cow poo fill the remainder with water and stir. We always had gigantic vegetables. You probably already know about this but some free advice. Have a good week 🙂
Try "water glassing" your eggs to keep them for up to a year. You can dip eggs in paraffin to keep them a couple of months but you will need to store them in a cool place. Mix a little molasses in the water with you fish fertilizer to help your plants out while they get established. It is a good natural fertilizer to add to other organic fertilizers. It also helps to keep pests away. You can also use worm casting to make some compost tea for your seedlings.
I was always told wait until everyone else lost their crop ti freeze before planting. Then it would be late May before you get to plant. Plastic tent is good cover for freeze days. Love your channel!!
I put out some brassica's today as well. But I am in 5b so I might be a little early. I tried doing it in the fall, but they didnt get real big, so I gave up on them and the snow came. I put plastic up a week ago to warm the beds and melt the snow, and when I came out to plant the cabbage, I was shocked. 5 of the 7 cabbages from the fall survived the winter and were growing. As for Mothers day, it works all over the USA. My warm weather crops wont go out until then. I do container gardening in five gallon buckets and 27 gallon totes. All it takes is one year of bringing in 15 large containers full of soil inside to avoid a frost, and then out in the morning will cure anyone of planting early.
Used to make a pickled tongue sandwich at a restaurant i worked at with red onion jelly and a pimenton aioli that was so tasty!!! Sliced it super thin piled high on some homemade kaiser buns...absolute perfection
I have needed to say this for many months.... you have been a witness to me...the way your family holds hands to give "Thanks" before you eat. You're not ashamed. Thank you.
Glad you talked about luffas. I don’t have any of those seeds and have always wanted to grow some. Pausing your video to put in an order now!! .....45 minutes later: I have decided to look at the local seed racks. All of the online places seem to be SOLD OUT. It has been well over 60 years since I have had tongue sandwiches. My Mom used to fix them but I have never even tried. I am so happy you enjoyed it. Also the corned beef dinner for St. Patrick's day . Meg you really are a great cook. Thanks for sharing your days with us and have a Blessed day.
Just keep an eye on the weather and throw a blanket or plastic over the bed. I know it taste good! That’s corn beef. As for the tongue, I will take your word for it. Enjoy
So enjoyable to watch. I'm jealous of that XL Large Corned Beef. I buy two as large as I can find, 3 to 4 lbs each and I still don't get enough lol. As our Son stopped by I gave him enough for him and his wife, took some to my Mother and just enough for 2 small Reubens for hubby and I. Once again we really enjoy watching. Thank you for sharing. 🌸
Meg I am i awe of how you cook 3 square meals a day, make bread and everything else you do!
I used to love doing that when my kids were little, but I had to go to work darn it. I loved baking, cooking and being home with my littles!
I am also in awe! You go girl!
I love how you start the video. Soft with music and watching chores. Its quiet relaxing and then to watch Meg cook breakfast! It's awesome. Ben I love it when you have side projects! Love the seedlings.
I thought the same thing, their videos are so beautiful and calming to watch!
I love it when I get to watch, but I'm usually working or driving with my phone in my pocket. I create a playlist ahead of time. I get to wondering what the music is with no talking, then think, "ah, it's the Hollers, they'll talk in a minute."
I have always loved how they start the videos with "Hello there beautiful people". Their hearts are good ❤️
Me to the lightning was beautiful 🌟
Your family lives in such a beautiful area. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Congratulations on getting the trach out! That is a huge accomplishment. Grow some basil in a pot this year, and maybe a marigold. You can do it!!
Another beautiful day on the farm ❤️👍
Try extending their day for couple of hours with light in the morning. That's what I do and I have eggs all winter.
Watering after you plant is good to settle the dirt around the roots and take care of any air pockets. You did good.
Thank You for all the videos in March - been missing you guys please keep it up to some measure- i know it’s a lot of work, but it’s like when a network show goes away for a long break -we miss you!

Rhode Island Reds lay an egg a day all winter. They're foolproof and totally dependable. :)
A hint...when you make ham, bacon, or corned beef use molasses instead of sugar in the brine. The molasses makes the meat come out a better color.
That’s so good to know; thanks for sharing!
Molasses also has sulfur in it which help with the corning process
Great job catching that morning light! Makes me want to roll out of bed earlier.
Yay so glad your corned beef turned out!!! Yummy! 💖

another great use for greenhouse is the fact that kept warm hens will lay most of the winter - even with our short days up here in montana
I’m so happy you are posting videos again. I know that’s a lot of work. Thank you for letting us have a peak at what you are working on. ☺️
I have to say I am loving your daily videos, hope it’s not too taxing, and you can continue

Hard working family. You deserve the best that life has to offer.

Also a great looking breakfast.
I also forgot to say I loved your traditional dinner for St.Patricks day, that was awesome, well done.
These style videos. Day in the life. Are awesome ! Love your channel !!

Great job guys on producing more videos. They’re are awesome and you are spot on with editing your videos!!
Your family gets so much into a day! A joy to watch. 💕💕🌻🌻
I love foggy mornings 🌄

It’s important to water in transplants to put the soil back in place, it’s not just for moisture. Good luck with the second round of seeding !!! :)

I’ve seen people use luffas to start seeds in, so if you have a bumper crop that could be a fun experiment!
You are such an inspiration. Continue to enjoy your life's adventure. Have a great weekend.
I can almost smell that dirt! Oh how I love springtime!
I love watching you and your family. Making so much food. Makes me so hungry. Your family is so close it inspires me. Wish I had close net family like you guys do. Thank you for sharing your life journeys with us.

My goodness I haven't watched in a while and your daughter has gotten so big!! So so sweet.
Great video! Love how far you have came in such a short time.

It's such an amazing feeling when preparing food that you grew yourself. I absolutely love it! Great job guys!!
Oh that corned beef looks amazing, lots & lots of work went into making it but it was worth all the effort. The look of joy on Meg's face when you tried the corned beef says it all. I love serving hot corned beef with an onion & mustard sauce.... so delicious !
It's funny how well the electric fence comes across the audio.
As a kid on a dairy farm pickled tongue was always called lunch meat. I love the stuff but haven’t made it in years. Green with envy.
Liquid Kelp fertilizer, is a great option in this situation, it's very mild and is an affordable organic option.
Le mieux étant les algues au bord de mer comme les anciens ...
My compliments on your choice of muffin your videos. So appropriate and soothing!
Growing up on a farm my dad always had a really large vegetable garden - I mean a small paddock size. Love this video. All the homestead issues to have. Power plants rain. Love it
I have needed to say this for many months.... you have been a witness to me...the way your family holds hands to give "Thanks" before you eat. You're not ashamed.
Thank you.
«We had to buy eggs»🤣
Hilarious 😂
its all down to the compost ..at end of season i always put unused or old bags compost on garden thats store bought
Glad you talked about luffas. I don’t have any of those seeds and have always wanted to grow some. Yum!! Maybe with sourcraut too!
Keep up the great work!!!!!!!! Mix it up. You subscriber count will climb. 👍😊
Enjoying the new format
Great job guys!!
Hi..... Meg and Ben, thank you for showing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🏡🎥👍👍👍
Thank you for the beautiful filming Ben. Love your Homestead 💕
Meg, time to try the chicken hearts!
You guys are living the abundant life!
I'm also in the piedmont and even though our last frost date is April 15, I've learned to wait until May.
Man y’all are on top of things!!!
That looked delicious 🏴❤️🏴❤️
Thanks for sharing your wonderful family life! It warms this grandma’s heart! Great progress again, bravo!
Just to let you know my mouth is watering atthe sight of tongue and corned beef , great job Meg👍😁
Headcheese, yummmm!
I just HAVE to say!!! I love your family && you inspire me!!!! Thank you!!
I also love when Meg at the end says by
Just keep an eye on the weather and throw a blanket or plastic over the bed. I know it taste good! That’s corn beef. As for the tongue, I will take your word for it. Enjoy
Beautiful, early morning content-very inviting!
