Love Louisiana being from a Cajun family that goes back to the 1600s in Louisiana you are very correct we need to preserve Cajun and Creole heritage shah
Then be sure to tell everyone you know about us! Because Louisiana Dread is spreading the word about Cajuns and Creoles and we ain’t going anywhere!

Portuguese ... interesting. I traced my family to england and france, but a few of us have pacific islander? or native american? traits. Maybe, it's portuguese. Relatives mainly from plaucheville to new orleans. Tight circle. Glad i stumbled on this channel. All of the sudden, I'm interested in this state's history and culture, and here you are.
Here I am! Come on this journey with us because this state is incredibly fascinating!
My last name is Plauche I grew up in bourg la
Nice job young man. Clear as a bell. Good teacher here.
Thank you for the kind words!
Awesome segment! Yet the mystery still remains… who wrote “lick da fess” on the sea wall?!
The world may never know but it is cultural to say the least.
You know
I have reason to believe I know who it was, but I’ll never tell! hahaha
But OMG, did you see they completely removed the Lick Da Fess wall?!?! I was devastated when went there to see it after not living down the bayou for years and it wasn’t even there. 😢
@@Louisianish it has moved. When the road forks, stay to the right. You’ll run upon it. The wife and I took pictures near it just a couple of months ago.
@@zwalker4146 Oh maaaaaaannnn! haha That's great to know! The next time I'm down the bayou, I'm definitely going visit it! Thanks for letting me know!

LOL, I ran out of gasoline at the top of the old Intracoastal Bridge. People behind me were not happy. My dad had to bring some in a gas can.
You were so close to a gas station right there at GeauxBears hahaha
@@LouisianaDread I don't think GeauxBears was open. This was in the 1970's. 😀
I love that place where my wife is from I'm trying to work it out so I can move down and retire course I'll probably still have to work at a shipyard but that's fine
There are ample shipyards around but it’s a beautiful place to retire!

A trip to Golden Meadow isn’t complete without a speeding ticket!
There are a lot of folks down here who identify as Cajuns, but who are actually descendants of Portugese, Spanish, Italian, Colonial French, and German settlers. There is no shame in celebrating your actual heritage. While my father was a genuine Cajun descended from those who were expelled from Canada by the English, my mom was Scots-Irish. Imagine my surprise recently, when I learned by virtue of a DNA test, that I am, genetically speaking, only 9% Cajun. I actually have not only a smidge of Portugese blood, but also I'm 12% Italian! Boy our ancestors got around, eh?
At this point, what we know today as Cajuns are so far removed from their ancestral home and Acadian culture that they have developed their own unique culture and lifestyle. This would necessitate the intermarrying of people with African, native, and European lineage. I find it hard to believe that a DNA test would specifically say “you’re x% Cajun”. I’d like to take that test to find out more.
Isnt there a Civil War fort there?
There is not. The fighting didn’t come that far south on the bayou.
@@LouisianaDread U.S. Civil War
During the U.S. Civil War, the Union Army capture of Fort Burton at Butte a la Rose took place on April 20, 1863.[5] Not the same place?
@@gstone42 No. Different place.
