  • In this woodturning project I work on creating an bowl from a large figured ash bowl blank. There is a lot of turning in this so it can be classed as ASMR woodturning
This woodturning channel, explores the uses of wood when combined with resin, epoxy, to make woodturning projects, that are easy and can be classed as art. A lot of the wood turning projects I make can be completed by the beginner through to the more experienced wood turner. If you have any ideas for artwork, wood inlays, epoxy projects or any other wood turning projects please get in touch. Collaborations are always welcomes.

Beautiful bowl! I like the look of dyed wood finishes but I think this one being natural works well.

It's lovely. I didn't think I'd like the idea of putting dye in shellac, but it looked awesome.😊

Great job as usual, I like the cleaning with IPA after sanding. I have incorporated that process into my turnings and am preferring the overall finish. Thank you.

Thanks! it really helps with getting dust out of the grain and then cleaning off after using Yorkshire grit. IPA also has many other uses like making sealer by adding shellac and shine juice by again adding shellac and boiled linseed oil.

Well done. Lovely piece of ash. Some of the best looking pieces are a challenge to deal with tool marks and tearout due to the mixed grain patterns.
Glad you tried the dye and shellac. Still looks terrific with just the shellac.
I can imagine the heat from the shavings. Dense and dry wood shavings are hot and tough on the tools. Not a surprise you needed to sharpen several times.
    Dave.

Thanks Dave, yeah I've never had a tool get as hot as that before! But the bowl was worth it. The figure in the wood is so much nicer than the camera can ever do justice.

Beautiful Ash bowl with character (not battered). I prefer having the character than plain ash.
