I found it really interesting. Do you know what brand?
His band Freak Kitchen is easier to get into. His solo work, Freak Guitar is a bit more experimental. But, for me, Mattias almost always hits the nail in the head when it comes down to doing interesting, catchy music, while being out of the box.
I love Matthias he is truly is amazing. His thought process is totally off the wall. He does metal like no other. His approach to things are amazing and he is so unique. I found Freak Kitchen many years ago with the Spanking Hour album and was blown away. He has just gone from strength to strength ever since. Every album is an adventure. Not everything hits the mark for me but when he explains it you are just amazed the effort that went into it.
Wonderful!! My friend Jan W sent me this video.....and from now I must follow you!! Good luck! And - thanks for prolonging my life .....good laughter can do it!!!!
What's really cool about such great musicians is that you don't even have to dig their music to get inspired by them. :) He's simply a genius! And of course thank you very much man, happy you liked it! //cheers, Kris
This is seriously the BEST 8 strong tone I've heard yet. I appreciate Messugah and Animals as Leaders for their styles, but most people just copy them. I think I'm just tired of djent, djent, djent, djent, djent, djent, djent... This is how an 8 string should sound. Mattias... you have a "fan" now.
The best thing about him is that he can't stand being restricted to genre and doesn't get mired down by theory. And his personality... that gets shown in his music, quirky and fun.
And "Fan" in Swedish is a swear word.. But I know what you mean.. and most probably everyone else does to, Im just need alot of sleep... or alot of coffee one of those two things anyway, and maybe shut up and stop wri.......

Hello Mattias, Just found your channel a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I'm currently 73 years old and became musically "awakened" during the absolutely amazing 1960's - and was in a few bands (on drums mainly with fairly occasional guitar / lead and rhythm) with artists involved in the British Invasion my primary focus. While I was never a devoted fan of "metal" I have recently have been noticing and really liking bands such as Volbeat (especially those featuring sax and terrific honky-tonk piano - along with Michael Poulson's excellent vocalizations). I'm a firm believer in the premise that "without a melody there simply can't be a song". This is where you and bands such as Volbeat (and others) really shine. You're "metal" versions of relatively "old" tunes are absolutely terrific and wonderful to listen to. That being said I honestly feel your comedic sense / timing / in front of the camera persona are absolutely refreshing and a joy and a major part of why I love what you do. When I was a little younger (late 50's and early 60's) many of the songs you feature in your videos were a staple in my home with my Dad being a tremendous fan of "melody". Even at that early age I was aware of the absolute necessity of melody. To make a somewhat long story a little shorter - I love the approach you have taken with these masterpieces. Thank you and all the very best to you and those you hold dear, Terry
Anything with Mattias IA Eklund is amazing :) Glad you did this interview with him, it finally answered a few things about him and his guitar that I wondered about for a long time !
This was great to watch, Mattias is such an amazing musician and great person to listen to.

He always blows my mind ... i mean think of it, if a million guitarplayers play in solo collab, what players would you recognize blindfolded? some maybe after listening to them for years but he is sooooo unique it blows my mind ...
Great point, IA would definitely stand out... I'm sure I could pick out Fredrik Thordendal and probably Tosin as well but those fall into the "listening to them for years" category for sure
You just have to love this guy. I really like how he play silly licks out of nowhere in between sentences. It is just like having a tourette syndrome and ventilate through guitar.
I found Mattias a few months back randomly through his Freak Audio Lab channel, popping up on YT recommendations. He's a genius and I love his personality, lots of fun. Fantastic interview!.
Its nice to see Mattias Eklundh is discovering the power of social media finally. Saw him on Li Herrmans twitch yesterday and it was as epic as going to a concert. Keep on rocking on the internet during this pandemic, PLEASE Mattias. We need you :)
Rewatching this after getting an 8 string. Met Mattias in Osaka a couple of months ago. After 5 seconds of meeting him he seems like an old friend. Never met anyone like that and he is an Awesome guitar player!
See, he tried to talk about how tuning is important and used the word "dissonance" but his dissonance was so cool!! Lol, he needs to demonstrate what he meant without being so musical! Fun interview, and I came here because of the distorted live video of Freddie's Special Defects 😁
I like the fact that he likes Django Reinhardt, a must for any serious guitar player. If you just listen to one genre of music you fall into the old adage "a person with just one taste has no taste at all.I was really into Punk and post punk ,the music ,politics and the idea of smashing the system and creating music of change.I also liked reggae ,and jazz and this really expanded my musical knowledge -when I heard Django he blew me away and opened up huge possibilities for guitar and 40 years later I still love the instrument.
Amazing on so many levels!! The setup really impressed me by its simplicity. So if I understand it right, Mattias uses one single amp tone with lots of gain, and all variations from clean to lead are done with a volume pedal in front of the amp (plus the delay)? Also amazed at how good a high gain tone cleans up so well. What volume pedal is that?
There is however a difference technically. When you play music that requires stretches... then you have to practice a little on the tt fretboard to get it right.
I use 9 volt batteries on EMG pickups which can be very humiliating when they run out…lol….That volume pedal is good in front of the amp….I never realised the volume pedal cut out so precisionally at the end of progressions…you keep stuff so crisp and tight with that……You play with such octave span contrast with the 8 string too..Delicious ring modulator discord ringing…One question is are the two pickups the same or are they different ?….I can see two pickups but the only control on the guitar seems to be ONE volume knob(as popularised by EVH) but this switch is different…It appears to double as a push pull pot which switches the pickups….When Hugh Manson made guitars for me he would install push pull pots but they would only be to make pickups go out of phase or single coil / double coil options. But Mattias’ guitar is different again. Really interesting stuff.
Simultaneously the worst and best interview ever! What a f'in talent that dude is, and seems like a really cool guy. Way more like listening in on a conversation that wanders everywhere.
Hey Mathias you told you have two german sheppards. ? Back in “Fate” days .there where two Doberman in frontcover. Did you had Doberman then ? Love to see you when you come to Denmark ❤
A set of TT frets costs more than a good portion of what Thommann has to offer across all the HB range. This is one of the reasons Mattias' signature guitar costs 6000 EUR
