It is nice to listen to a discussion without an air show in the background. 😁

I own a jabiru.. I’ve had my plane in shelbyville.. Nick and his crew are great !! I have a small shop in Ohio.. most of my work is Rotax.. but I do annual s and general maintenance on jabiru aircraft.. Nick s shop is top notch! Just a personal opinion..

What’s your experience with higher hour jab 3300 gen 3’s?

Gen 4 looks like a great engine, especially with the lower maintenance compared to previous gen engines.

I have said this before, but I loved my jab 3300! I had the carb that Sonex sold at the time. That thing would crank over, in what felt like, half a revolution EVERY time! Hope to love my Viking equally as much!

I've got the Sonex/AeroConversion's "AeroInjector" TBI carb on my Jab 3300 and am very pleased with it. I like having a manual mixture control so I can richen the mixture to help with cooling in extreme conditions. Combined with an EarthX battery, my engine starts so quickly you can't count blades - it's like flipping the switch on an electric motor!

Great interview and lots of good information. One correction, however ... Nick mentioned more than once that the Gen 4 needs no valve adjustments unlike Gen's 1, 2, and 3. However, the Gen 2's (which I have) and all the Gen 3's have hydraulic lifters and require no valve adjustments. But, as mentioned, the 1's, 2's, and 3's do require regular cylinder bolt torque checks while the Gen 4 doesn't due to a cylinder design similar to most Lycomings and Continentals. I also heard recently that the Gen 4's have switched to a Mikuni carb as the Bing is no longer produced and would have liked to hear more about the new carb.
One thing that both of you got right is that the engine sound of that flat 6 is great - even with mufflers! Only thing that sounds better is a Merlin 12 cylinder!
I'm thinking that for the price difference of overhaul/upgrades vs a new engine, I'll go with a new engine at 1000 hrs. At the rate I fly, and the production lead times, guess I'll be ordering a new engine in about a year!

I remember some kits being sold for Continental and Lycoming engines to improve fuel injection, ignition, pistons, install turbos... then I found out those also exist for Jabirus. Another advantage of researching composite materials for engines would be the use of materials capable of impact absorption and ceramic(?) coatings to minimize the wear of components subject to too much compression/expansion or friction. Or more exotic ideas such as magnetic repulsion instead of lubrication, hard metals and smooth finishes for some contact surfaces.

I always wondered why jab didn’t move spark plugs to top and bottom? Spreading them is a slight benefit to combustion completion time, ie fuel efficiency and CO.

hi, i wish you would do once a video about latest engine tecnologys...and what kind of engine would be the best for aircraft, a modern compleate ECU controled diesel ? most robust and everlastig concept, lowest consumpten...ore ca modern turbin-prob concept ? i think this video would get a lot of attention------

Why has jabiru not gone to fuel injection?

  • @eastindiaV
    @eastindiaV Год назад

You guys should test out motor jets, it's an experiment from WW2... A Piston driven car or aircraft engine, with a fan instead of a propeller or drive shaft, inside a pulse jet engine, with some simple intakes, right before the propeller... all the exhaust goes into the pulse jet to be recycled, and both engines run on 1 fuel tank, with 2 pumps
If the Nozzle is done correctly, it's supposedly more powerful, & efficient, than either type of engine alone.
It's appearance would look the same, but there would be intakes behind the cockpit, and no propeller, and a huge jet pipe with a Nozzle like a rocket engine out the end, the jet combustion should be behind the occupants, cause it's cooler, and more safe if it blows up or something... same engine... pulse jets are basically just a tube with a valve behind a spark plug and fuel line

Why are these better than a rotax? The 2200 makes 80hp and the 3300 makes 120. The 3300 cost 25k starting off. I am asking not talking trash. Why would someone by this over a rotax?

You may like the noise but those on the ground do not. This kind of disrespect for those around you will bring noise restrictions to the light aircraft market. Should use mufflers and keep government off your back or pay the price. Be a good neighbor.

Stop buying a house next to the airport just because it is cheaper and then complain about the noise. If airplanes are too loud for you when they are a mile away, go live in a cave.
