The fact that one of its main characters, Torako Koshi, says that she's glad she's in a braindead comedy anime, given that she's aware that whatever she witnesses makes no sense, is insane.
Even better in context of the show considering it was right after a random Yankee battle scene where Noko's antler blew up half the school and the show immediately moved onto the next story with 0 consequence.
Honestly, This anime being just a bunch of jokes and memes is why i love it so much. That's the great thing about art, it doesn't have to make sense to enjoy it. Most anime plots run so deep it become kinda incoherent after a while, so just finding this goofy, but surpisingly self-aware show to watch is a breath of fresh air.
I was really surprised to find out your the one who made that video who synced up the OP to that random video, I literally watched it like 6 times in two days just because it's so dumb (in a fun way)
The comparison to Gintama is apt, but I feel there is something more here in relation to references. There's a bunch of movies that all have "movie" in the title that people often cite as a negative example of comedy, being just a bunch of bad jokes and references. We've all seen at least one, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, Scary Movie franchise after the first two, etc. Those just drop in references and expect them to be funny, but Gintama and this show somehow make it so that the anime becomes more through the references. The creators didn't just drop in the references and expect you to like their show. They used the references to elevate their work, make it interact with other works in ridiculous but often meaningful ways. (Like Koshitan reminiscing about Mikey from Tokyo Revengers to explain why she was a delinquent is a funny moment for those who know the character, but it also explains something about her character as she says she became influenced by tough guys in gangs in manga and anime. It's not just an easter egg, it has purpose in its own way.) That's what references can do. Shouting "Skibidi toilet" without anything else just means you know that it exists, but using a reference or meme in inventive ways or even making memes yourself like the marketing team did with that "aim for dear" corporate commercial, it can connect your work to entirely unrelated things in ways you might never have imagined. And to me that is beautiful in a way.
Koshitan isn't the first brainrot anime to exist (though it does takes it to another level), it has always existed in anime community. Especially since the early 2000s, then internet itself was pretty niche and such anime even niche-er. Koshitan now made it mainstream in a way. And that's also partly due to absurd comedy has been such mainstream online for a while now, especially since the pandemic. The how online gen alpha and gen z humour currently is based off of absurdity, nonsensical and overexaggeration of certain things and media. Though as fun and creative they can be. They can also be harmful.
As a Japanese I am starting see this meme EVERYWHERE IN THE JAPANESE INTERNET/MEDIA. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME 💀 Press the like button so I don't lose more braincells
Until not so many years ago the only things close to memes were samples in hip hop beats and absurd parodies, such as Ninja Nonsense that was mostly clichés. But, clearly, I'm kinda old. Like, Di Gi Charat years old old. I cannot keep up with the new meme-based media, it moves so fkn fast and references tons of stuff that moves just as fast lol. Apparently, psychology research indicates people have a 7-second attention span viewing media these days. Figures 😅
I wouldn't say the anime is brain rot (cause its missing the alpha brain-rot) mainly cause the targeted audience seems to be the gen Z's. Although nice video/review
Honestly I really didn’t like this show, episode 1 was a good start but then it turned to just trying too hard to make “quirky random XD hahaha” jokes, and the other jokes were just not funny to me. I wish I liked it because it’d be fun but alas… I don’t. This is just my opinion, don’t hurt me
That's the whole manga in a nutshell, which works better because it's just one type of gag per chapter and then you have to wait a week or longer for the next gag. Because of the length of an anime episode they have to cram in multiple chapters which means that they have to throw multiple different gags in which can really hurt the pacing and delivery. Not saying the manga is a masterpiece, just that it's a way better experience when you're only getting small doses each week rather than having to binge it all when adapted to anime.
subscribe to get unspoken rizz
IF you haven't said that disgusting sentence i would've subbed.

Yeah i feel that, its starting to feel bland and repetitive, early episodes was just keep doing unexpected outcomes
