As a former home inspector I found some realtors did not want me to find any problems with a house, but I refused to do an inspection that wasn't thorough. Of course this affected my repeat business referrals poorly. I gave up inspecting and took it as a lesson learned.

Never trust your realtor. Their job isn't to find you a good home at a good price, it's to sell the most expensive thing they can as fast as they can. Home inspectors they "suggest" are just there to help close the deal, not say anything that might scare you off.

Our realtor didn't recommend anyone but instead provided a paper with a list of inspectors to choose from and told us we could hire any certified inspector even if they weren't on the list. My realtor supplied a home inspector that did not find a very obvious large gap around a 5" PVC pipe going out the roof. This was made clear to him that I wanted to check the roof for any leaks. After moving in when it rained the inch gap would let water pour in and down my mudroom wall. This pipe had no boot around it. This pipe was the first thing you look at when entering the attic. Just googled do inspectors need a license and this is what came back. "Iowa does not regulate home inspectors, so education is not legally required". Wow!

Bought my house in 2017 and used the engineering company the big realtor company I used recommended. The inspector was focused on all these small issues that I could care less about. When we got to the garage I said doesn’t the drywall look weird to you next to the door it looks like it’s puffy but everything was freshly painted. He said no it looks normal to me. Then he opened the door next to that wall and said the wood is rotted on the bottom of the door that needs to be fixed. Then he climbed on roof which it has a light dusting of snow so he said roof looks good has about 10 years left. I bought the house and 3 months later it’s spring time and there was a mold spore growing out of that wall i asked him about. Tear the drywall out, the insolation was soaked covered in bugs, the framing for the wall was rotted because water from the roof was leaking into the wall which is also why the bottom of the door frame was rotten. My father inlaw comes over ( he hadn’t been in the backyard yet ) when he goes in the backyard to look at the roof he said when the garage addition was done (which was decades prior) they didn’t build the garage roof into the house ( house and garage and L shaped ) so you have water running down the edge of house roof and garage siding which misses the gutter some goes into the garage wall and the majority drains on the porch which is why the block is green and why water is coming in the basement in that exact area.

A ton of people on this show say their home inspector was recommended by the real estate agent, that's a bad idea. Your real estate agent has a vested interest in you buying the home, the home inspector has an interest in keeping in good terms with the real estate agent. Even without actively wanting to scheme, this fact will unconsciously teint their decions and opinions. Get your own independant home inspector! Maybe your mortgage lender can recommend someone. Their interest is to make sure the house is worth the money they've lent you to purchase it, and that interest better aligns with your own.

Always chose an inspector on your own. Never from the seller or the realtor. As they just want to make the sale or dump the money pit. Go to your library and get a book on home inspections. So you can ask the right questions and recognize BS when it is given to you. You can save yourself a headache and a lot of money. Either backing away or getting $1000's if not $10's of thousands off the cost of the home... Inspector referrals is a form of kicknack. We live in a world everyone lies for money...

Do we see the pattern yet ? The realtor "knows" an inspector one that will guarantee the sale of the house, otherwise the inspector wouldn't have any work. Inspectors are like politicians..they tell you one thing whilst hiding the truth.

Kind of dumb question from an American, why is everything blue? The foam, the 2x4s, the drywall, all blue. Why?

If we ever develop deep space travel they'll be doing the same thing. Sewage can be scrubbed and cleaned and is then perfectly safe as drinking water.

Looks like this guy dodges a bullet having his girlfriend ditch him at a critical time. That told him that she's not worth his time or effort. She never would have made it through better or worse 😊

I would never buy a smokers house, they are very filthy.
I should know. My neighbor is a smoker. His house ceiling were covered with yellow nicotine. And the stench was nasty.

I think anybody that goes for a home inspectors course to be a home inspector should have at least two to five years minimum in the trades before taking the course that way they can have an idea what to look at. I remember probably about 11 years ago I took a course but I've been in the trade for almost 20 years and I remember the instructor saying contractors make the worst inspectors cuz they nitpick everything so with that said I dropped out of the class because I felt it was unprofessional for a instructor for a home inspectors course to say that after I paid $1,500 for the course.

If you mean find a new girlfriend when you talk about a social life have someone else pick her out because you don’t seem to be too good at it. Good luck buddy.
