Carmelo played 10 games this year. In 4 of those games he dropped 28,24,22 and 17. If I'm a gm, I'm signing this hall of Famer for one more run at a title, especially in the east. What ppl who defend Melo aren't grasping is that it's Not about his physical ability. He can still physically play. It's his style of play. It has been phased out of the NBA.
You can only get away with being an iso heavy mid-range scorer if you have above the rim athleticism or great passing vision to get teammates easy buckets regularly. Melo has neither anymore.
When all you're gonna do is shoot mid-range jumpers & postup turnaround jumpers, with no dunks or dishes in your game you are slowing the pace down without the extra point from the 3pt shot to justify it.
Compare the shots Iman took to what Melo took in this pickup game. Iman spent the whole game outside the arc working his way in. Whereas Melo would play inside posting or jabstepping, then occasionally outside. Completely different approaches. That's why Iman Shumpert has a functional role in the NBA and Melo doesn't eventhough Melo is clearly the better player.

Well said Slice. Iman also gets after it on defense or at least tries. I like Melo, I think he could be a guy off the bench that give 15-17 minutes a night. The way he plays nowadays can really hurt teams though if he was going to be given significant minutes.

If Melo played on a team like The Hornets or Grizzlies, he might be able to avg 17.5ppg... Melo's Achilles heel is his defense, it's atrocious, he's just not fast enough to keep up with the millenials plus the effort grading is pretty much C- to a D. In an offensive league like today the least you could do is move at a decent pace, Vince Carter has been in the league longer but is still capable of guarding majority of the NBA
