- It's time for a new series! It's Mark's Car Roast, and we'll be ripping on the Ford Exploder, err...Ford Explorer. That nickname came from many years of problems with this vehicle and I'm going to have some fun making fun of the folks who love their 2022 Ford Explorer (or past years too).
This is a car review of sorts, but I hope you take this in good fun and enjoy our roast of a classic Ford SUV.

My police department had one of these burst into flames a few years ago while idling. 😆
I have seen as well.
Meanwhile in PH, Toyota Hilux and Vios cop cars has no problems at all 😅
Years ago I had the misfortune to own an Exploder. Never again.
Live and learn. Thanks for sharing
Buy an older, early-to-mid 2000's Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban or GMC Yukon/Yukon XL with the 5.3 L LS-based Vortec V8 engine and the four-speed automatic transmission instead. They are a lot more reliable and they last for decades. Thanks.
Thanks to all the problems I had with my Ford Explorer, I now only drive a TOYOTA!!!
Same here bro, switching to toyota was one of the best decision I ever made
@@mister-amazingHands down
A good friend of mine had a 2018 Explorer Sport that he bought brand new he told me he started noticing rust bubbles in the paint after only 2 years of ownership. He also mentioned all the creaking sounds in the cabin when it gets really cold out. He drives a 2020 Acura RDX now and told me although it's not as powerful as the Explorer Sport it is a better built car and more luxurious too
If the old trannys were reliable, I don’t know why the car manufacturers brought in new junk. Let’s not talk about Ford interior plastic. They can crack, bend and discolour very quickly. They can do a lot better.
When driving behind them, the exhaust stink smell tells me immediately it’s a Ford Exploder.
Exactly
I love how you never called it by its proper name for the entire segment! I sell Fords and these SUV’s are always in the shop.
Thanks very much for watching. Cheers
I can attest as an exploder owner that mine is always in the shop and has been since i bought it 3 years ago. Ive spent nearly 20k in repairs, 10k on the suspension alone
😂 actually, you read my mind, regarding these vehicles. Well done!
Thanks very much and hope your Sunday is going well. How has your weather been? I know here were are still struggling to get spring. We had snow yesterday again
@@ECPP cloudy here in the Seattle area, but warming up. My friend in Minnesota is still getting snow, so I can imagine that Edmonton is still under that threat. Good to see you wearing short sleeves though!
Haha, yes true I am in denial and will wear shorts at 3 degrees over freezing as long as the wind is not blowing.
@@ECPP 🤣
Do you think I should do this type of video regularly, or is it too much?
I have a 2019 Lincoln MKZ, and so far, aside from it being smaller than I would like, it's been a great car, no issues, and I'm hoping it stays this way.
I actually bought mine so cops would leave me alone in my small hometown, and it worked. For whatever reason the vehicle demands respect from law enforcement, dont ask me why it just does, especially with the 4ft CB whip antenna i run. However, that is no excuse to continue driving it. They have the worst suspension design of any car Ive ever driven. Can you say struts every 10k miles? Control arms every 15k? Sway bar links every time the struts are done? Ive put twice what the car is worth into the suspension in 3 years, they are absolute garbage. The trans is about to go out of mine. Solenoid and clutch disks
I for one want to see some more vehicles getting Roasted 👍🏻
Definitely a series add
@@ECPP 💯 %
The funny thing is, the police sit in them (idling) all day, running the AC on our dime. Running those things all day is a recipe for disaster! 💥
Ahh yes the ford exploder the best reason to buy a Toyota or Honda out there. They'd be a much better option if they at least offered reliable affordable transportation but they can't even manage that 😂
Exactly it’s vehicles like this that motivate people to buy a Toyota 4Runner or other
The real junk about the explorers are the 2.0L turbo engine they force in them. Way too small for that size vehicle, and fords turbo charged engines have less than average reliability. I actually like the look of em, but don't need any kind of 7+ seat suv anyways.
You are totally right and the 4 banger has no right in this application unless it were a diesel, which it’s not. The latest ones do look decent almost like a Range Rover sport but it’s really about the mechanical concerns
Wasn’t the Exploder named after the burst prone Firestones that were standard a few generations ago?
Yes...
I have a relative who owns one of these and it's been nothing but a headache.
It’s funny though because often people are simply loyalists as you see a vehicle like this on a driveway parked next to another couple of Lincoln or ford vehicles. It’s often just what people do as they feel loyal to these brands.
Now i know that Explorer has dark side. I'll just go with Toyota Innova or Toyota Fortuner.
Sayonara, Ford.
Good plan
Whew! Tough review for the Ford Explorer!
Indeed and a lot of people do like them but the quality is not where a customer paying this much money, should receive.
Worked at a Ford dealer in downtown Calgary. I hated these vehicles, the door panels always split along the fake stitching. Lots of them were fleet buggies.
Thanks for sharing and yes they seem to hit fleet duty
Great video Mark!
Thanks a lot. Seems like maybe a type of series like this ?
@ExoticCar PlayPlace
This is just me but I would probably do one on suvs, cars, trucks. Maybe do a few of the worst and not one video specific to one brand or one vehicle. I think to many people would be offended. But that's just my opinion you know how sensitive everyone is.
Roast on! 🎉
Haha, cheers
Yep. I almost bought one of those FOR THIS EXACT REASON! But my good sense said I’d rather have a car that didn’t break instead of being a cop-car look-alike. (Oh, and yes I have mistaken Range Rovers for cruisers…)
You forget about the worst Chevy Traverse 2007-2014 1st Generation and Chevy Traverse, 2nd generation Chevy Traverse 2014-2018, 3rd generation Chevy Traverse 2019-2024 and the worst GM V6 engine made 3.6 V6, counterpart versions Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia, older Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban are better choices.
Thanks. Yes oil burners that eat timing chains and blow gearboxes mean a lovely experience for adventurous people
2013 to 2019 sure did have issues but nothing like euro cars and you dont have to remortgage your house to fix your car.
Thanks and there is something to that
You reviewed a 2019. Our 2023 is great. Just like our 6 other Fords. I have owned all kinds of cars over 40 years and Ford has been good to me.
Mark for Presidency
I read about how badly transmissions under these Exploders perform compared to the same transmissions used in couple other Fords. I wonder what is going on here?
and the cop car look no thank you
Exactly
Despite the poor reputation, Ford keeps rolling these sh*tboxes off the assembly lines without addressing any issues. My guess; most are sold as fleet vehicles, such as public service vehicles and cost of repairs are passed along to the taxpayers. Private owners, as you stated, are the ubiquitous "Karen", who has little concern for the reliability -until it breaks down on the way to the hair salon or shopping. Then there is hell to pay!
Absolutely and best I can make out is a lot of these publicly used vehicles are domestic units and they would never run something outside of US and Canada. Possibly support the manufacturers? Still junk but well supported.
Ford have always tried to copy the model of Range Rover that was current at the time, even 20 years ago.
As I long time Range Rover owner (Classic, P38 & L322) (and son of a former Lode Lane Solihull employee) we hired an Exploder for a 2 week trip in New England over 25 years ago, just to compare the Ford product to the Land Rover product (P38) as they looked almost identical at the time.
Number one vehicle for police wannabes
I miss my exploder I had a 2011 white base model that look just like a police interceptor I never got pulled over and everybody was scared around me lol
Haha exactly they look like cop cars and people often change driving habits around these
Next episode, Mark roasts his mother in law while driving in a Pinto.😂😂
Ouch
Jetzt haut es alles zusammen 😱
Back in the day... we call Ford... fix or repair daily.. acronym
Genesis totally ripped off the Range Rover
Why not?? Get them slow people who keep snoozing in left lane creating traffic and back ups back into the granny lane where they belong!! Sounds like a good deal to me.. completely blacked out one would do the job even better
Haha
love ford cars but they have to take care of the quality more
Ford did own Range Rover before selling it to Tata Motors, Ford kept the design cues.
Ford Fusion has a Ashton Martin grille.
Ford took design cues from Range Rover for it's Exploder long before Ford owned Land Rover.
Serious question:
The newer “Exploders” have a unibody frame apparently.
Is calling them SUVs the proper term or are they more crossovers?
Or are SUVs and crossovers the same?
Ford explorer is a turd..but put some Range Rover emblems and lower the reliability and everyone will want one
Exploderrrr
yes yes
The ford exploder is the new version of the crown Vic

Thank you
As expected, another good 👍 video.
like your drift 👍
Thank you
@@ECPP Input is good👍👌🤙
MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT ROASTING A CHEVY UPLANDER VAN
Lol.... I still like Ford anyways
Haha, Ford does have some cool offerings like the Mustang or the GT40 or….
I agree the Ford Exploder is a Range Rover knock of and we all know how bad Range Rovers are
Modern Range Rovers are a liability
- wouldn't touch one that was less than 8 years old.
Love my 2 Range Rover Classics (both 200tdi) though
(one has done more than 430,000 kms and is good for another 430,000 kms)
- simple vehicles, very easy to work on, cheap & easily-accessible parts.
Love my L322 (original bullet-proof BMW M57 straight-six 3.0L inline engine) too
- been to Africa & Asia by road in it (in luxury), effortlessly towing our 2-berth caravan.
@@ericdunn555 Those older BMWs are pretty reliable but if you look at the modern BMWs they are now unreliable same goes for Mercedes-Benz were the Mercedes-Benz W123 both petrol and diesel are still around today built in the 1980s and the diesel engine is considered one of the most reliable engines the OM617 and l see a W123 300TD regularly at a mechanical workshop not far from were l live it does run bur its unregistered its probably someone's long term project and it appears to have no rust and is in good condition and VW around the 1990s by the the best decade for light vehicles but there are several manufacturers that are still making reliable although lately because if these USA regulations put on motor manufacturers now thats making once reliable car makers to meat those regulations but there is one vehicle manufacturer North America don't get and that is Suzuki but in Australia we do get Suzuki's and we own a Suzuki Baleno and so far our 2017 Baleno brought second hand the end of last year is proving reliable and unfortunately Toyota has struck issues in North America and any of the utes that the problems they have fortunately we don't get them and we get the Hilux which for the rwd work ute have petrol engines were the recreational vehicles get the diesel engines and our emission laws aren't as strict as other countries we are no were near Europe or North America and l do own a 1997 Toyota Hilux which when built was except from all Australian emission and safety laws and it is registered and in N.S.W all light vehicles over 5 years old need a yearly registration inspection but in the test no emissions testing as long as everything works no problem and l failed twice only on the exhaust system it has been replaced the rest is fine l will have one small repair l have to do is replace a cheap Chinese indicator lense because it has cracked its only lasted 4 years where the right hand indicator lense is probably original says a lot for Chinese build quality and the same goes for the first section if exhaust system l had to replace l have seen the same part for sale on eBay and it was also made in China and its why it failed tge rego check and unfortunately we get Chinese built vehicles in Australia both I.C.E and EVs and they are absolute junk were some of the utes are rusting and that's in Australia infact my Hilux has no rust issues and has never had rust repairs a lot has to do with the aluminium tray that is original to the Hilux
Plastic is beautiful? Usually you're pretty down on it.
FORD EXPLODER
Ecoboost 😂
Visually it looks ok, but I would never own a Ford. ( Again. ) A good friend of mine has an Escape, nothing but trouble. He comes from a Ford family and said he's given up on them.
There are very few domestic named brand cars I would ever consider buying. Quality has taken a back seat unfortunately.
Can you please talk about the new ones especially the Explorer ST
beautiful cars
😂
2.0 eco boost garbage
😅😅😅
not right about range rover sport knock out ... the time range was designed it was owned/using Ford platforms ... so they are similar car for different market niches ... Ford for mass market Range for premium segment ... similar story with new Chevy Trax 2024 and Buick Envista 2024 the same car and platform but different lights/interior and options ... plus avenir execution has fully independent suspension in the back...
You can get a long time in prison for impersonating a police officer
