He's coming from a system they share a complex with, not out of the realm of possibility that they see something that can fix. Also we have couches that have worked with and have seen him up close. There is some positives to Munoz. Let's pump the brakes and see if they can harness his talent.
If he moves to the pen, as i expect. He had an intriguing profile. A real + slider, good velocity on the fastball (shape could be better). He could stick there
This is a great pickup. Munoz is exactly the sort of player the cardinals basically never pick up because he's a project, and the club is always trying to contend and can't afford to roster a player like this. He's a bad pitcher, because his control/command tends to suck, but he has two legit 55-60 grade pitches at times. Yeah, the bullpen is the most likely path, but every once in awhile a guy like this turns into Jake Arrieta when he gets an opportunity in the right place.
If you watch some video of Munoz you can see why they picked him up. He has a lively arm. I bet they are planning on using him out of the pen. I think he can be effective out there. This reminds me of the Riley O'Brien pickup who I haven't given up on. Good pickup in my opinion. Nice work Chaim and Rob
Ugh. Taking a look at Munoz' game logs, he only had 7 out of 17 games where he was average or better. The Cards better get some really excellent pitching coaches if they want to stand a chance of rehabbing him.
Well, the move is about what i expected after them saying rebuild so it is what it is. My question, sir, is i wonder if the fans will show up and what the front office would consider an appropriate number for the year if they are around the same record as this year are below??
Low risk and a possible high reward? Go for it. You go through the weeds to find the good stuff. Everything you harvest can't always be diamonds so you need to do a digging.
Very little in his numbers to be excited about. Terrible ERA, walk rate, Whip, K rate and gave up a ton of HR's. The Marlins sent him packing tells you all you need to know.
@@DrollpantherWell he was told to deal him off by his boss. For the folks who said he didnt get anything back are not being fair... Well hey... he can theow fast... there's always that.... The Cardinals are supposedly gking to focus on player development. But they do the same thing they've always done. Looking for a bargain bin pitcher to fill a slot on the roster.
What did you want them to do instead? Dumpster diving for young players is exactly what they should be doing if they're not gonna spend money (and they aren't)
Thank you. It's this kind of content that will get me through the next 24 months or so. Good analysis with a positive take on the future.
I'll be here! Thanks a million for making it worth it for me, by you tuning in :D

The Cardinals are like me searching the waivers in fantasy football at 3AM, hoping to find the quality guys that nobody else sees coming.
They are. once in a while, it works!
@@bschaeffer12most of the time it's kip wells
@justintripp-xm1fh that's okay, it's worth a shot knowing they're not spending anyway
Hey I found Chris Tillman doing that 😂
@@dustycoward7615 Me too. I grabbed Tillman, Nix, and my D off of waivers and that easily won me my week.
Cardinals love pitchers that have been injured, high ERA or has given up the most home runs in a season!
As well as hiring a guy who led MLB in strikeouts….. to fix the guy who led the league in strikeouts. Hope it works.
They need to hire Dave Duncan back for these special projects

That's what I see as a possibility too.

@@teambigv probably replacing Middleton
@davidshowmaker4408 Yes. I watched a few of his starts he can definitely string together 2-3 good innings.
He’s another big arm guy who needs to harness his stuff still.
This is an excellent opportunity for Bloom to demonstrate that he is, indeed, a talent whisperer. 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

So if we have Munez, matz, Mikals, Thompson, Libby. Offense only needs to score eight runs a game to make it close.
Don't look at Muñoz as a rotation piece necessarily. He's in the mix entering spring.
Who can blame MrDeWitt, the salaries are nuts.
Dev. farm,an youngsters.
Let the guys play!

It's a very fair question and we're going to have to see what they decide on that
If your goal for the season is to operate at the lowest price possible.. and whatever happens happens... These kind of moves make sense.
That's their goal
It cost nothing to get him and theu can work with him this off season and then spring training and if not good cut him
You have the right mindset!
I don't think you are going to see a lot of fans going to games next season
Your headline take is much different than mine. My take $100,000 Lottery shot. A long way from a diamond.

It should not take quite that long imo

Cardinals are that team that wakes up from a nightmare quickly and makes a move and then falls back asleep.

Ummm.....how do we know this isn't a Mo move?
We don't!
Send him to Japan or South Korea for a season.

Buddy Kennedy was one of my favorite dudes to talk to in the clubhouse in spring ... Up until he got Brandon Crawforded
In Bloom we trust.

But they do the same thing they've always done. Looking for a bargain bin pitcher to fill a slot on the roster.
Yes, that's the point. They're doing it with a 24 year old at least. But the alternative is spending money and we know they're not gonna.
Did Jon Jay say anything
Not to me!
@bschaeffer12 I was just curious if he had anything to say since he coached him last year
@BillDownton Jay isn't a pitching coach but it's a fair question. I'm sure they reach out to guys like schumaker too, him and Oli are close.
another disappointment! get a clue front office
haha
Hes no diamond.
He has never been good at any level. If Bloom sees something and the cards can fix him then that would mean Bloom is a wizard.
Another typical Cardinals dumpster dive. So much for Bloom doing things any different from Mo.

Isn't the Rule 5 draft a giant dumpster dive? How did that work out in 2023 for the Cardinals?
@CzarAlexanderIV extremely good!
The Royals did this and became competitive. Don’t knock it yet

Dumpster diving is their best chance because they're not spending money
