Jazz vocalist Edna Marlene Briscoe and her quartet, the Turnstiles, were a travelin' band, playing jazz clubs and blues bars all over the country. Facing racial troubles and jazz bans of the 30s, Briscoe and the Turnstiles often played underground speakeasy establishments, garnering a rebellious image for the group.
