Me: "Man nothing's worse than the FX series at DirectX9 rendering!" RGB: Great video man! Finally someone on RUclips really gives this card the full test treatment!
Yes. I have found it out when Half-Life 2 come out... GeForce FX 5900 XT - terrible, almost unplayable. The FX series weren´t be able to accelerate DX9 fluently. I have replaced FX for Radeon 9700 Pro. It was a good choice :)
@@RetroGPUsandBuilds Honestly it's more persistence than skills in my case, plus I'm super lazy. You can learn and probably make better music in no time. The key is to enjoy the process ;)
I remember these graphic cards. Were the game changer FSAA X2 X4 was duable CRISP AND games looked amazing...SHARP & shadows and they were running very smooth.
Thx Maxime ! I don't think the v5 got in to production, except for some engineering samples. The v8 did see some production ofcource but indeed hard to find. And collectors that have one will unlikely sell it.
Hey, thank you so mutch 😁 but you know the youtube "algorithm" doesn't care 😉 still I am happy that some retro enthusiasts find my content. Next video in the works!
I'm sure! Unfortunaly they didn't keep updating or tuning the drivers. Yes I am joining #gpujune I have a build video thats ready and thinking about making another dual gpu review video 😉 thank you for the kinds words 😁
@@RetroGPUsandBuilds two years and Arc It seems more like a Delta Chrome than a Volari XGI issue. Too forward looking, it is not an old uArch being whipped into the next gen as SiS did with Volari. Still should have told you congrats because Volari Duo were super rare even brand new. Also believed they used GDDR2 like the FX5800 Ultra, which is why there is so much heatsink.
Poor little XGI Volari V8 Ultra Duo. Where is this card now, in 2023? In shits. I loved 3dfx Voodoo, it was really nice time with 3dfx Glide :) Just few memories, which is out now... :(
Would be interesting if it had better drivers... 9800 XT was truly a beast back in the day. Too bad that they're pretty damn expensive these days as they're pretty rare.
i thought the card was at least trying to hold its own, till you did the game benchmarks and it got totally annihalited by AMD and Nvidia, but its always fun to see something unique trying to compete.
I expected the fx to be closer to the 9800xt in doom 3,i could swear that was the one game the fx series could hang with the ATI cards back in the day... Wouldn't personally know as i had a 9800pro at the time
Hello compatriote belge ;) , je n'avais plus vus t'est dernières vidéos et je dois dire qu'elle est tout simplement excellente! dans le style 80' continue comme ça! Qu'elle logiciel de montage utilise tu?
this video feels like if the 1980s had technology of today but everything kept the 1980s retro look (retro to us) amazing. I always think it is insane that 3dfx and PowerVR left the discrete graphics card race but SIS and Trident merged and were able to release the XGI Volari.......wish the 3dfx Spectre 3000 and the PowerVR Kyro III had come out instead
Thanks you 😁 I wanted to create a retro wave style video and it turned out quite good, and learned a bit more about editing while doing so. To bad the volari was a flop.. And I think mainly because of the poor driver support. I remember seeing the card in magazines for the first time! It blow my mind.
@@RetroGPUsandBuilds the worst thing is it also killed the motherboard, I had it all perfect the ultimate windows 98 pc, pentium 4 3.4ghz 5950 ultra, 512mb of the fastest ddr 400 i could find it was perfect. Luckily I had a back up 9800 pro but the issue there is compatibility with that card and 98 isnt the best
@@TundraMC well yeah, I used the last drivers I could find.. No surprise updates stopped quick after the card didn't really sell, there was supposed to be a pcie version the showed at some event, but I don't think I got into production, are you a collector?
@@RetroGPUsandBuilds no i am not collector but ive seen the benchmark at that time,(2004 era i dont remember well) and it had really terrable glitch at that time. And FIC (you may know, asus mobo ODM manufactur) and chaintech(aka Colorful)produced Volari based cards. The club3d made it too(as you said in vid) FIC model was sold in korea for very little amount And XGi was acquired by ATi in 2007(8?)
i like both cards, 9800 XT because fastest, but then i like fx 5950 too for better compability with dos / build engine games can actually run SVGA resolutions in, ati cards can't do that.

Great work and thanks for this awesome content!

Cool, great content! I love that all around copper cooling. I see it didn't scale well on 3dmak 03
Thx 😁

I always thought the e8400 would not work on this mainboard! I have the same 75i65g rev2, did you use a bios mod for the cpu?
Hey, I made a typo in the video, the cpu I used in the 775i65G is a E5800, no modded bios
I bet this card would have done much better if the drivers were refined. BTW love the channel. You going to do a #gpujune video?

Yeah, seems the DeltaChrome S8 Nitro was the last competent 3rd party gpu remotely near the high end. An almost 20 year gap until intel joins.
And also that card seems impossible to find now, let's hope Intel joins the battle next year 😉

Yeah, they are getting damn expensive. Ebay sellers are driven price up. You best bet is finding a 9800xt locally. Good luck finding one 👍

I remember the Radeon 9800 being a monster.
Fx series performed noticeably better than 4 series thats ALL it needed to do, competition be damned
That's one way of looking at it. I think the FX series made the competition quite happy.
I subbed for AirWolf. :)
Looks like XGI had some compatibility issues. Maybe better drivers would have helped?
@LordSamuelJ I used the last available drives . But yeah I think better drivers could solve some performance issues
XGI volari duo v8 ultra
How much can it cost? I would like to buy it, but i have even no idea. 1000 ?? 2000??
That Will depend on the sneller I guess . Ive seen a broken one sold for 800$ and a working one for 2400$. Witch is just crazy 🤪
