      That’s what I think we will do. We will be there two full days and 2 half days. One day coming from Italy and the other half day going to Paris on our way back to the US. We have been to Italy and France so just passing by. We might have to buy the overland pass for 4 days and the Eurail for 4 days because of the overlapping. Still planning

    You guys are the BEST!!! I opted to by the Berner Oberland pass after watching your video. You guys are absolutely right. It's the best option for us as we were staying at Grindelwald (after watching your other video)for 8 nights. The pass makes the most sense and it's super easy to use. We got some sandwiches from COOP and hopped on the Mannichen cable car and ate lunch there with the 360 alps view. The ride was covered by the pass and there's no line! We were in Switzerland last week. It rained two days. We were able to make last-minute itinerary changes because the pass is flexible. I was hoping to run into your guys and thank you in person. Anyway, I have been to Switzerland 5 times before, and I still find you guys are the experts in this country. Your advise is up to date and very practical. Thank you so much for your videos!

    The BO pass has great value. Its under estimated how costly transport can be. Cable car, rail and bus can really add up or likit trips. I even used it to head up to murren for a para sailing drop into the valley. And a bus from the base of the cable car back to lauterbrunmen. We also took a extra trip up to kleine schiedig on a whim and back to lauterbrunned via grindelwald.

    Another +1 recommendation for the BO pass! For our visit in summer 2023 we used the BO pass with 1/2 fare cards and it was definitely a great value, and don’t overlook the convenience of getting to skip the ticket line many places. We used Interlaken as our base for 6 nights and the BO + half fare worked great for several days in the Jungfrau plus day trips to Lucerne, Bern/Thun and got us most of the way to Montreux where we spent a couple additional days.

    Just a heads up on the Berner Oberland Pass benefits. At 1:37 in the video, The site changed it's wording so that "The special price from the Eigergletscher is CHF 99 per adult. The connecting ticket is available at all Jungfrau Railways stations or online from mid/end of March 24." The deal isn't as good during the summer but is still something to consider!

    • @AplinsintheAlps

      Purchase the BO pass using the half fare card and save all but about CHF 15 of cost of HF card. Then the train ticket savings from Zurich to Bern alone covers the extra CHF15. It’s an unbeatable combo.

    Your videos and guides are super helpful! I’ve been reading through other comments and replies to try to avoid a duplicate question, but do have one if you can help. With a Berner Oberland Pass and a Half Fare Card, if I’m traveling from Zurich Airport to Montreux, via a connection in Lausanne - would I be able to just buy some point-to-point tickets to cover what is outside of BO validity area, or would I need to buy the full Zurich to Lausanne since its the only stop on this route? I appreciate it!

  • @madisonmcbride1831
    @madisonmcbride1831 9 дней назад

    I bought my Swiss Half Fare card and Berner Oberland pass for my upcoming trip and I can't wait! You mentioend that with the Berner Oberland, you just hop on the mode of transportatoin or scan it at a turnstile. Is that generally how you use it everywhere? I have it printed and laminated, but am just wanting to double check how I use it day to day! Thank you LOADS for these videos- I've used them to plan my whole trip and I can't' tell you how helpful they've been!!

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  9 дней назад

      Yes, you just show your pass since it functions as your ticket! But heads up, I'd probably print it again and NOT laminate it. Sometimes the scanners are finicky and we'd hate for the laminate covering to prevent it from scanning properly!

    The videos (all of them) are super helpful in planning our trip. We are planning a trip to Paris and Switzerland and will be mostly near Interlaken and visit the mountains on 2nd week of June 2024. Hoping to make the maximum of the trip. So planning it this way. Day 0 (Taking a train to Zurich and hoping to take the Interlaken express from Lucern to Interlaken and starying near Wilderswill for the next days), Day 1 (Jungfraujoch and Grindelwarld First and the village), Day2 (Schilthorn, Birg, Allmendhubel),Day 3 ( Lauterbrunnen and Lake Brienz/Thun) and leave for Geneva towards the evening. It is a bit too much, but based on checking out your videos on passes, my options were ( Half travel card Berner Oberland Pass + Half Travel Card). It should be the latter, but when I get the numbers, it . I am not sure if the Berner Oberland pass only removes the hassle of buying tickets , which I plan to do using their online apps).

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  5 месяцев назад +1

      Don’t forget that the Half Fare Card will also save you money on every other train in Switzerland, like getting from Geneva/Basel to Interlaken and then back out of the Berner Oberland. That usually makes it even more better! Plus, the convenience may be worth it, but of course you can price it out based on your specific activities.

My only question is, if my wife(24) is now able to get the youth price, would it still be worth buying the half fare card for other excursions like schilthorn? Thank you for educating us and make us feel confident for our next trip. Our best wishes from Utah.

      So glad to help you!! You'll basically want to calculate whether or not you would save 120 CHF over the course of your trip by buying the Half Fare Card. If you're planning to travel to the region by train to and from the airport, and planning to visit the Schilthorn, you'll basically be there already!!

    Great news about the BO being all year round now. We bought it last year on your recommendation (together with the Half Fare). We are hoping to be back in '25 or '26 but at a different time of year. Great to know it'll be available no matter when we travel 😊! We'll probably spend a week near Interlaken and another in La Tzoumaz so we'll need to work out if the same combo will still work best.

    This pass is a great one but we stayed in Switzerland for a month using a car leased from Eurolease. So passes that must be used on every consecutive day are difficult, weather and conditions change. On dismal days we could change our mountain plan to just a car trip with a picnic lunch but if we had a Pass we would have lost that day. Maybe on those days you could do caves or inside activities but train rides would also be disappointing when the views are through wet or foggy windows. The Hal-Fare card allows a month of travel on any and all days. Sure, it means only 50% off all tickets but it's also cheaper to buy and covers ALL of Switzerland. Consider this is you are staying for a long trip.

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  3 месяца назад

      Absolutely! That’s what we recommend in our checklist if you’re coming for a longer trip AND if you have a car. Because really a car changes everything for passes. So cool you got to stay for a whole month - we did that for 3 summers in a row before we moved here!

    Hi Jana and Brett,
    Thanks for the video, it really assists me a lot in planning my trip with my mom coming March!
    Just a question on the BO Pass, I have downloaded the SBB App and would like to travel from Luzern to Grindelwald via Interlaken- your video explains that the train ride from Luzern to Interlaken should be covered by the BO Pass, but in the SBB App I can only select the half-fare rate, if I would like to use the BO Pass, does it mean I do not need to book any tickets through the SBB App and just hop on the train and show my BO Pass? Thanks!

      Ooh good question! And the answer is simple - with the Berner Oberland Pass you will not need to book tickets anytime you ride a covered route! You'll only need to buy a ticket on the app if you ride a route not covered by the pass. Happy Swiss travels!

      Great question! If you're not otherwise planning to visit the Jungfrau Region, then the Berner Oberland Pass probably won't help too much. But if you have your Half Fare Card, look into purchasing a Saver Day Pass - you can probably get one pretty cheap since your trip is still 3 months away, and it will save you a TON of money if you do all that in one day!!

    Hello. Thank you for all information you provide in your videos. As I understand, one would be better off to buy the oberland pass in advance? I also read that one needs to have a seat reservation for any trip. Does a seat reservation need to be done in advance for each trip too or you can do it right before a trip at a ticket office or machine at a train station?

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  4 месяца назад

      Hi Svetlana! You can buy the pass in advance online, or in the station/airport when you arrive. There's really no advantage either way, but buying in advance keeps you from having to worry about it when you arrive.
      You really don't need seat reservations, except for when you ride official scenic trains like the Glacier Express. So in most normal circumstances, you can just hop on transportation and ride using the Berner Oberland Pass as your ticket (wherever it's valid)!

    We are planning to buy the Berner Oberland Pass, but can you please clarify how does it work for the gondolas for example? Do you just scan your pass at the turnstiles or you need to show the pass at the ticket offices so they can give you a ticket?
    We are also planning to ride the Brienz Rothorn Bahn - do we need to book the tickets in advance (as it is very popular during summer) if we own the Berner Oberland Pass?

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  5 месяцев назад

      Good question Irena! When a route is covered by the Berner Oberland Pass, there's no need to buy or get any other tickets! You just scan your pass to go through a turnstile (usually for mountain trains or cable cars), or if there's no turnstile you just hop on board and show your pass if asked. Have a great time!

Make sure to run your itinerary through our free checklist to find out! aplinsinthealps.com/ultimate-swiss-train-pass-guide-2023/#open

    Thanks for this informative video on the BO pass--definitely going to get it. One question I have is with the pass how does one make sure you have tickets for specific trains like the Goldenpass (Interlaken to Montreux) or Luzern Interlaken Express? Do you go on the sites and reserve seats only (for the fee) and is it complicated with the Goldenpass since the BO only is free part of the way (pay on the train or before you board?). From looking around, most of the sites for local transport including BLS boat don't note the BO pass as a discount option. Also kind of a bummer in that it seems like unused online reservation fees cannot refunded in case your trip timing changes.

      Hi Roger! For any route fully covered by the Berner Oberland Pass, the pass is your ticket - no need to buy or get additional tickets (for example, on the Luzern-Interlaken Express). For the GoldenPass, you'll need a seat reservation, which you can purchase on their website. For the section of the GoldenPass that isn't covered by the BO Pass (and for any other routes not covered by the pass), we always prefer to buy those tickets on the SBB Mobile App. Hope that helps!!

    Thank you really helpful and will use the link for this pass. Can I ask about visiting Rigi/Titlis/Plateus? if We are based in interlaken, do we have to get Tell pass? for these or would the Combination of Half fare + Berner pass help?

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  3 месяца назад

      Those would be really far day trips from Interlaken! The Tell-Pass would cover the routes completely, but note that it’s 4 hours one way from Interlaken to Mt. Rigi 🙃 (The BO Pass only reaches from Interlaken to Lucerne, then you’d need to buy tickets beyond that)

    Hello, Me and my wife plan to travel with our 10 years old son in mid Aug. We plan to spend 2 to 3 days in Interlaken area, like to visit Jungfraujoch. We also plan to spend 2 days in Zermat. After watching your videos Berner Oberland pass makes sense. Does it make sense to buy Swiss half fare card for additional discount? We plan to rent a car. Thank you.

      Check out the Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass. It's available as a two-day pass, and might be the most economical way to see both of those places!

    We are renting a car in Zurich since we will be driving several passes in Switzerland, Italy, and Austria. Spending 4 nights in the Bernese Oberland and 3 nights in Zermatt. Looking for best pass combination. Your Ultimate Swiss Pass Train Checklist (page 7) recommends Swiss Half Fare Card and Jungfrau Travel Pass. Is that the current recommendation?

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  4 месяца назад

      Hi there! The disadvantage to Meiringen is that it would take a lot longer to get into the Jungfrau Region if you're focusing your adventures there. The advantage is you could see some amazing places near Meiringen that most tourists don't go!

    Hello,
    I have been watching your videos for a while now to get some tips for my first time coming to Switzerland !
    I hope it's alright if I can ask some questions since you guys are PROS at this !!
    I'm looking to go by myself in September for only a week or possibly 10 days. I'm wanting to start at Geneva for a couple of days and then making my way up to Interlaken, Grindewald and whatever else I can nearby.
    Would the Berner Oberland pass still be good for this journey ? Or is there something else you recommend for me ?
    Really appreciate it if I could hear back from you guys. Quite nervous.
