Man jumps from top of Zion Overlook Trail

- There we are at the top of Zion National Park via Canyon Overlook Trail, when he climbs over the rail and JUMPS! Answers to questions - I have no footage of the jumper prior to jumping. We saw him on the trail but had no reason to believe he was anything other than a fellow hiker. This was meant to be a family video and the two hiking are my wife and son. After landing, the jumper walks up a hill to the left to the road. The voices you hear while he is falling are fellow hikers that I don't know.

He was a camera man for somone else's jump,and had his back pack on instead of a parachute .

Then the walk out to where his car is parked is actually way harder than the walk from his car up to where he jumped from.
Some people will do anything to avoid hiking down a steep trail. Looks like fun!

I know a guy who BASE jumped from the top of Comcast 1 in Philadelphia and broke BOTH of his legs upon landing and had to hobble on his 2 broken legs to the van awaiting him at the bottom. He hasn’t BASE jumped ever since.
Trying to get back out of there with no hiking gear or water seems like the real problem.

Looks like a stream in the basin there, seems assured as though he's done this there before and therefore prolly has has canvas canteen, empty of course, in his pack. My guess...
It's an easy hike down the creek bed in the canyon he landed in to the Zion tunnel road just a mile downstream.

Zion is a creepy place. It’s beautiful but I felt very uneasy the whole time we were there.

I've been in the wash you see in the bottom of the canyon. I hiked out after 8 rappels in Pine Creek narrows .

Just a 4 mile hike back to his vehicle up the switchback on the Zion Tunnel road and thru the tunnel.
Just got back out from a hiking trip. Was laughing about this video while I stood in that very spot. Such an amazing place.

Fine as long as his primary chute opens. There is no option for a back up chute from that height. Definitely a time when you want to pack your own chute.

Yeah I got nothing against what he did I don't think it should be illegal. But the way he did it didn't look like he was prepared for the environment he could possibly be stuck in that is for sure. If you're going to take a risk you should always calculate every possible way to make sure no one else has to take a risk to come and get you.
