    We uncovered some real issues showing why we are unloading the left rear slick so hard!! The rear Anti Roll Bar is absolutely critical, but many confuse how to adjust the ARB for body/chassis roll issues! I show you the changes and actual scale weights with before and after scale weights!!

    While I am not able to replicate the twisting torque of the motor on the left front, nor am I able to emulate the extensive twisting of the rear end on the hit, I think this experiment with the scales show some very interesting data from which better decisions can be concluded on my issue of planting the right rear and actually unloading the left rear. Not saying you should go do this at all, but watch the video, see the weights move and then better understand how you can apply this to your car or other cars, if needed. One big danger is watching a video like this and then trying to apply it to every car. We will see soon how the 48 Ford reacts to these changes at the track.     Never apologize for what you’re doing here! I wish my dad would have been interested in what I do racing wise, and be a part of it. My old man always said “going straight ain’t driving.     I've never adjusted suspension for drag racing yet, but what you did to the arb is what I would have considered the logical move. I don't understand why people would think the other way would help.

    First...that's a great looking car...looks like it means business! The weight measurements really knocked my socks off. I would never have expected any reduction in weight on the rear when you jacked the front up. I was expecting some left/right balance difference but I was expecting both numbers to go up. A real eye opener. Thanks!!!

    Hi Kevin...thanks I did pick up that nugget and more. The only thing I could add is to be careful because on the track, the load that the jack was carrying will be transferred to the wheelie bars and tires in proportion to the location of the CG to each contact point.     Gr8 Info Kevin. I'm getting into No Prep Dragging, but with RC. heh. Everything you apply in 1:1, is almost exactly what is needed in the 1/10th NPRC,
    Which has much of the same setups, except the wheelybards are not off axle but off rear motor mount on the trannies with rear motors, and separate chassis mounted wheelie bars on the mid motor rigs.
    I am also gathering the parts to make a scale car with an axle. In RC they use a Short Course Low Center of Gravity Chassis.
    Its pretty cool stuff no doubt. You should look into it for shitz and grinz.
    just search youtube for No Prep RC or NPRC.
    Thanks again for this info. It will help me setup my rigs to bring home some cash. lol

      David Plater thanks so much for your comments! One thing I hope you took away is how fast small changes move weight around. With the ARB change, I may actually lessen the 75'ish lb spread to more like 30 lbs. The car was unloading the left rear and loosing 60' and going left some before these changes, but with a 75 lb rear spread with me in it at ride height. Soon I will recheck corner weights with me in it and at ride height to see the static 4 corner weights. I will keep the channel updated. With the ARB change, I might can get the rear weights closer to even and it drive straight. I cannot wait for the stiff sidewall slicks and to get back out and test with dad. Go fast, go straight!       @@KevinWilsonSBC I was hesitate to purchase scales at first but now I’m seeing the perks of having them and how useful they can be to solve chassis issues. We just fit the front struts freshened up by Strange so with that and this info hopefully our 60ft will improve also. Good stuff!!

    Good stuff Kevin. Questions - 1. How do you determine there is no more front or rear suspension adjustment to keep the front end down and have to use the wheelie bars to manage front end lift? 2. How did you decide to lower the right wheelie bar 3/8" and increase wheelie bar load while reducing tire load instead of raising the left wheelie bar up 3/8" to keep more load on the tires? 3. Is there a formula or load ratio between rear tire and bar load? Hope this makes sense.

      TBL thanks so much for your questions! Good questions and I will keep it at a high level. 1. At some point considering the weight bias you may need to pull some power or move some weight around. With shock technology and front limiters you only have so much suspension adjustment on the front before you practically have the nose tied down on extension. The rear range eventually begins to lose 60 foot & just spin. It is a fine line between keeping the tire planted while having the physics move the car forward down the track efficiently. 2 The higher the front goes, to some degree, is simply wasting energy and ET. While my car needs some weight transfer as I have 58% of weight on the front end, to high a wheelie is just not winning races and gives more room for error if the car goes left or right. so I tend to err on lowering 1 side if I need stagger. 3. No formula as each car is just so unique. And wheelie bar lengths, deflection, etc... all are variables from car to car. Hope this helps some. Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!!

    3:22 Picture a long lever attached to a super differential cover being pushed downwards until the front wheels lift off the ground. The weigh scales under the rear tires might record something interesting.

    The dynamics of the launch will change the numbers much more.
    There is no accounting for how much weight is on the jack under the front end.
    That said, I'm very interested in seeing your results on the track.

    Very educational, Kevin. I assure you I tore up some Ritz crackers and cheese spread while watching this! LOL. One question: I know wheelie bar heights can be set independently side to side just as you have done to control rear tire weights. But wouldn't it be better to set the car up neutral and then only use the wheelie bars to limit wheelie height?
    I remember when scaling my blown Camaro, I was very happy when I got the front end weight (with driver) within 2 lbs left/right and the left rear 50lbs heavier than the right rear. The car leaves absolutely straight and I don't have to steer it at all.

      OneFastDuster thanks so much for your comments and question! You are spot on! I am a big believer in keeping a balance and as close to neutral as possible. I will be making more 4 link changes to take out some of the front end rise so I am not having to introduce more stagger and hopefully reduce the stagger as I don't hit the bars as hard. As a drag car rides on the wheelie bars with the front wheels off the track, they will influence steering and just a little bit of stagger goes a long ways to help correct that issue. My stock G-Body frame from just behind the driver's seat forward is not helping me on chassis deflection. Hope that makes sense.     I was thinking instead of moving weight to left tire with 4 link pre-load or the arb or the wheelie bar, tighten the spanner on the rear coil over spring. So set car up neutral and get your 70 pound spread your looking for with right rear coil over adjustment. If the car still goes left then use pre load or arb for small adjustments.

      sanger440 thanks so much for your comments! There are times I have had to stager the coilover preloads for sure. But I try really hard to keep the rear chassis crossmember as level as possible so my 4 links angles are as close to the same left to right.     what is the best way to address loading and unloading of the suspension? I was at the track this weekend the track was not sticky when you walk on the starting line. it would spin the grab over and over.

    With lengthing the anti roll bar ends on the opposite side you want to load, I’m assuming that if you seperate the rear end (anti squat) or compress the body onto the rear end it will make a difference on which way to go?

      Loco Fab thanks so much for your comments! Great question actually! My car, even though a big tire has separation, so the reaction of the rear end most definitely can & will impact this behavior on the rear ARB. I would not use my change as a recommendation for every car out there without seeing some good slow motion video of what is happening. Each car is so unique, but with a good video and if you have body rolling over the right rear like I did, then you can see how the change impacted the scales. Now for sure, like I said, I cannot emulate the rear end twisting on the hit, so I need to take these changes and test and then adjust. I am pretty confident though that I have found why my left rear was being unloaded. I hope this makes sense!! Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!!

    Hi Kevin when adjusting preload on the upper passenger side 4 link what is" 2 flats of preload on the right rear upper 4 link bar " when adjusting that bar . I dont know what you mean by your wording" 2 flats " are you turning the bar two complete turns ???

      joe t thanks so much for your comments! Usually on the upper bars, there is a nut welded around the bar so you can use a wrench. The nut has 6 flats. So 1 flat is just 1 flat turn. With no nuts, I would say 1/6th of 1 turn. A little moves a bunch of weight fast so scales are nice to have. Sorry for late response. Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!!

    Are you SURE you still need that 75lb spread on left? Sounds like that 1 full turn changed the whole equation... maybe you should just leave that all alone but move the right rear forward or back a little on the 4 link to rear steer left or right more and leave the weight more equal like you got it!       Sean Texsean thanks so much for your comments! You have a very valid point and I now that I have made this ARB change, I may not need that and the 75 lb spread. The car was going left, but that was before the ARB change and with a 75 lb spread at ride height. I will be checking the 4 corner weights with me in at ride height just to see where the corner weights are now. I may actually take the 75 lb spread down a good bit.     1 when you take your rear weight the front was lower by the height of the balance.
    2 when you tune your ground weight you need to be in it for the transition from be on the ground to wheelie.
    3 it a close look what the car can do wheelie but a 1/4 inch left or right with the jack is gone to change the rear weight.

      matthieu goyette thanks so much for your comments! Your points are valid! I will be repeating these tests again for sure. In this testing, we keep the jack on the same spot, but I do believe the data was interesting when you consider how we were unloading the left rear and planting the right rear at the track. Of course, no substitution for track testing these changes. One thing I cannot replicate is the twisting torque of the motor on left front and I cannot replicate the rear end twisting on the hit. Hopefully the changes in this controlled test makes sense, especially how fast weights shift with small wheelie bar staggers. Thanks for taking the time to comment and I value your feedback!
