This is a great addition. I was actually thinking about making a custom map exactly like this just to practice unit control. It's great to see the way they're supporting DE. Gives me hope that they're taking AOE4 development seriously, since they can see there's a really active community and nothing else like it.
Hang on, Viper was struggling with this and almost lost units a few times, and now they've updated the challenge and you only get 4 of each unit? Anyone done it recently? Just come on here to see if I was picking wrong choices, seems like they've just made it extremely hard
The archers vs man at arm is really hard after the update. I finally beat it by triggering all enemy units with a single archer, running around and let the rest of the archers do the job.

Use the hill next to the northern outpost, it doesn't help with damage, but makes them survive like one hit more and makes the scouts waste time trying to path around each other. Possibly doing box formation and using patrol move makes it much easier, but it's not needed.
I thought you can't win with spears vs the scouts and played 5 scouts vs 7 scouts for like an hour trying to not let any one die it was super hard. Probably not that hard if you are good I guess, but it was a good challenge nevertheless.
Take a closer look on the control. He patrols the spears into the scouts and the first one is deleted almost instantly and the second like follows example.
Countering the men at arms is ridiculously difficult. I have tried it for more than 20 times now and I just cannot do it. I also do not understand what the Viper did to survive that. I try to copy it exactly, but I always loose 1 archer.
Just want to say in order to beat this i used cav to confuse the maa by quickly moving back and forth behind the encampment and fought them one at a time
You and the rest of the micronerds should see who can get gold using mirror units or a unit that takes bonus damage. It would settle who had the best micro in AOE2
for 6th wave, it is easier to use scouts and archers. The enemy marches with spears in front and skirms at the back, so u can reach out with archers to lure spears into the hill and hit and run until all spears die, then just kill the remaining skirms with scouts. It is safer and easier micro

The 'scout cav' challenge works with 4 spears as long as you keep your guys in a choke point and standing ground. I can't figure out how to do the MAA part.

I managed the spearmen vs scouts in first one by using the chokepoint by the northern outpost
I was thinking that myself. I really can’t do the man at arms section. It’s so frustrating and with only 4 archers it makes it near on impossible

Wave 4 now has only 4 archers against 5 man-at-arms, was able to do it with hit and run easier without going up hills

there s a pretty big heal north of the troops in the 6th wave. putting archers up there and men at arms in front of them makes that wave very easy
