model 388 was replaced by the short hood 389...both are built exactly the same. I have both. And the sloped hood is achieved by the cab being mounted 2" higher off the frame then a 389 long hood.
Oils part of the slope in the hood looking steeper be traveling the same distance down from the cowl to the grill but in a shorter distance? Just makes it look steeper.

He loved the talk about the special skills of a dump truck driver. He is a master and would kill me if he knew I was telling you this.
Tommy...the two BIG 'things' to watch for when either in a spreader box/asphalt machine or spreading gravel with shorten chain set are tree limbs and overhead electrical wires/cables; that is, if you be on level ground. Things can get really interesting when dumping on banked turns or unlevel ground - best have a strong sphincter muscle and, if not, you'll soon develop one! Good looking 389 dump save for the color...unless the tailgate and side body posts had a cool graphic like bubbling black oil on the lower half. Cheers...
Nice truck, I probably wouldn't order an automatic but I can see the reasoning for it. I wanted to hear it shift but you guys wouldn't stop talking. Shame to get it dirty but that is what they were designed for.

I've seen it be an issue many times with large pavers for paving roads. Might not be a problem with small pavers for driveways. They sit lower and would probably be below the hitch.

The asphalt paver has a bar with a roller that pushes agains the tires and spins with the tires
Chalmers is a heavy duty off road suspension. If your in the dirt alot its perfect. Little bouncy when empty.

The 389 has fenders can be replaced individually, the 388 fenders are all one piece connected to the hood.
Let’s see this bad boy after sitting under an excavator loading rock, concrete. Asphalt will really put a nice color accent to the white paint 😂

There is no 388 anymore. 389 shorthood. I just got one.
They stopped calling those 388 in 2017. In 2017 it’s a 389. Or you can get a 389 extended hood.
