He also wrote this movie which is why he's even there. JMS does not like to be in front of the camera but the director convinced him to do this little cameo.
Loki has the best "villain" arc. Even though he does a lot of bad stuff throughout the movies, even though he has been treated like this his whole life and forever lived in Thor's shadow, he still loves his brother deep down, no matter what he might show on the outside, and Thor always loved him. Loki also has these moments of kindness and does what is right even if he is slightly frustrated with himself. He is one of my top 3 MCU characters for sure.
What does "he has been treated like this his whole life" means to you? I've always found this question about Loki's background and what some fan use to contextualize or understand and in some cases even excuse his actions; that question has always been interesting to me and that's probably what makes Loki such a interesting character even tho I'm do land much closer to the side of the viewers who are much harsher towards his actions or that don't minimize or justify what he does and how he acts.
Loki has been raised to believe he is a true heir, and on equal footing to Thor. However in practice he's the black sheep of the family, always chosen 2nd, denied what he was raised to believe was his. When it came to picking the next King of Asgard, despite Thor being too hotheaded, immature and bloodthirsty, Loki who was by contrast calm, calculating, very intelligent, a master strategist and organiser was left aside and when he discovers he's actually a frost giant, the abandoned son of their enemy he sees why Thor was favoured, because he wasn't truly part of the family he loved. This doesn't excuse the atrocities he commits, but it does give him a compelling and meaningful reason for doing it. The Joker causes chaos for the sake of chaos, because he wants everyone to be brought to his level. Loki did it through jealousy, a genuine (and frankly correct) belief that he's more suited to ruling than Thor was and the feeling of being neglected, abandoned by his true family and then shut out and made second best by his adoptive family.
@@eddiepalmer9543 That's a stretch. Loki legitimately thinks he's the hero - he's WRONG, but he still believes it. The Joker is cruel because it amuses him, and solely because it amuses him
At around minute 28,, Director Sir Kenneth Branagh asked Sir Anthony Hopkins to improvise his reaction to Thor's yelling at him in the banishment scene. Hopkins agreed, and when the scene was filmed, many of the cast and crew present were sobbing. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston later said they had to struggle to keep their composure during filming that scene. Hiddleston later complimented Hopkins, to which he said, "Ken's fantastic, isn't he?"
"wouldn't that like crush him though" While the hammer is slightly heavy, it's not heavy enough to crush someone. But he's incapable of lifting it due to the magic of the hammer. But it's not pushing down. Think of it like if Thor set the hammer down on the 10th floor of a building. Due to the magic no one can lift it from that floor, but it would not smash down to the 1st floor. Loki's body where Thor set the hammer is kind of like that higher floor.
(even though the hammer is made of incredibly dense magic maguffin metal, and is described as being made in a supernova, which WOULD make it incredibly heavy, but meh comics do weird shit)
The Director had asked Thor to gain muscle mass before filming started. Chris took it to heart and gained so much muscle mass that his costume didn't fit anymore Also, Tom Hiddleston is amazing. The "TELL MEEEEEEEEE" scene still breaks my heart to this day
Random fun fact; In the early comics, Thor had a secret identity - Doctor Don Blake. Dr. Blake was a frail man with a walking stick, and when he struck his walking stick on the ground, the stick would transform into a hammer, and Dr. Blake would become Thor (Sort of like when Billy Batson says 'Shazam!' or when Rick Jones would slap his wrist bands together... Both would become a character called 'Captain Marvel', even though one was eventually owned by DC Comics... It's a long story...). The point is, they went to the trouble to shoehorn the 'Donald Blake' identity into the movie for those of us who remember...🙂

Thor became my favorite superhero when I was reading comics in the '60s in part because they didn't offer any pseudo-scientific explanation that couldn't work for his abilities. They called it magic, which pretty much means "I don't know." In the comics back then, his loyalty to Earth and Jane Foster often got him in hot water with Odin.
@17:00, despite the science fiction and superhero trappings this story is a family drama. My favorite part of the unworthy scene was when Odin just growled at Loki. He is King of Asgard but he is also Thor and Loki’s father. He knows his kids. He knows Thor is a hotheaded but he is also loyal son. So that growl was to tell Loki “Thor screwed up. But I know you talked him into it. Be quiet or you can get some of this a$$ whupping too”
Well tbf Loki is straight up getting told off left right and center for seemingly only being younger than Thor and 2nd in line, a bit different you know? Everyone knows what that's like at some point or another. He's sympathetic to start with.

In Norse mythology Thor is married to Lady Sif, and there is no Jane... At some point Loki cut off Sifs hair as a prank, Thor gets really really mad at Loki and makes him apologise. Loki apologises and gives her hair of Gold, and that's how the Scandinavians got to have Blonde (golden) hair.

And even the family trees aren't the same. Loki is Odin's blood brother. Thor has red hair. Heimdall can't see everything, everywhere - Odin can. Heimdall isn't black. Sif id Thor's wife. The Warriors Three don't exist. And there are several other important gods that we never see in the MCU, probably most importantly, Balder - who is seen in the comics.

Broken bifrost Batman.. wait, that's DC. Fun fact, Norse mythology says that Odin's search for knowledge lead to it all being poured into his eye and as that's enough to make even a God burn he cut it out himself. It's believed to be an actual artifact that still contains that knowledge, if you believe that sort of thing. The Nazis were arrogant enough to think it was on Earth as it was one of the artifacts they were actively searching for. I say why search for an old man's eyeball like a needle in a billion billion haystacks, I'd rather just build a new one.

Hahah...I am still a book nerd, and one of m favorites is a collection of Scandinavian folk and fairy tales. Doesn't have much to do with Norse mythology (although I have looked into that to some degree), but it is great for terrifying children with folklore.
But then some weird stuff went down with a horse
Lol you are so funny
Don't bother looking up Norse Mythology to watch the Marvel series.
They didn't take much more than the Names, and Family Trees for anyone.
@@PhilBagels Idk the Comics, but Baldur deserved it :)
@@lokithecat7225 BTW, if you see two Norse gods standing next to each other, the one with less hair is Balder.

39:45 no…the reason it can’t be lifted is because of the magic imparted onto it…it’s not inherently heavy…it just cannot be lifted
Stuff with a horse..... *raises eyebrow*
Fun Fact: I said "trickster"...... Seconds later you said it. :-P
Great reaction as always, James Cameron's Avatar or Spielberg Ready Player One Cheers 🍻👍
I feel like characterizing Loki as a sociopath is .... underestimating him.
Yes, the wise yeeting.
6:47 lol You tried to pretend
Broken bifrost Batman.. wait, that's DC. Fun fact, Norse mythology says that Odin's search for knowledge lead to it all being poured into his eye and as that's enough to make even a God burn he cut it out himself. It's believed to be an actual artifact that still contains that knowledge, if you believe that sort of thing. The Nazis were arrogant enough to think it was on Earth as it was one of the artifacts they were actively searching for. I say why search for an old man's eyeball like a needle in a billion billion haystacks, I'd rather just build a new one.
