So many hits from the summertime of 35 years ago.
No way in the world that we the fans, were missing this one.
No.1 film of 1989, Oscar winner for sound editing and for the planned trilogy, it was a great ending.
Ford & Connery, although they were playing Sr. and Jr.,
they were actually 12 years apart in age.
I loved it for being more than just an adventure story.
The opening sequence with the late River Phoenix as Young Indy.
It did inspired a tv series, "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles", 2 seasons
    (28 episodes/4 TV movies).

@@k.delpino1124 There were an amazing amount of hits from the eighties. Me personally, I think between 87 & 88, I think I saw close to forty movies with my parents.

A fun fact it´s when young Indy (River Phoenix), used the whip and get a scar himself in the chin. Harrison Ford, in real life, has a scar in the same place, but in this case was due to a car crash when he was young.

A person can believe in the Ark but not the Grail because the Ark is actually mentioned in the Bible, many times. The Grail is never mentioned once. Indy calls it "the Arthur legend" because the first mention of it is along with the King Arthur stories; and there's not even any evidence that Arthur himself existed. So he's fully justified in not believing the Grail exists, let alone is divine.
Speaking of the Grail, though, you should watch "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", if you haven't already. It's a comedy from the 1970s about Arthur's quest to find the Grail, and it's hilarious.

River's portrayal of young Indy was the first and only time he played an action hero, and he pulled it off brilliantly - plus he did most of the stunts... I can envision River playing the likes of, say, John Wick or Jack Sparrow while dividing his time making indie art films to broaden his scope as an actor... What might have been... 😞

Originally, before Sir Sean Connery was picked to play Henry Jones, Jr. Sir Laurence Olivier and Gregory Peck were considered for the role.
The original idea of the script, namely the opening scene, was going to involve Indy fighting off ghosts in a haunted Scottish castle, but this was deemed too similar to POLTERGEIST.
Another idea for the script was that Indy fights off the Monkey King protecting the sacred Fountain Of Youth.
It was later changed to the Holy Grail, where Indy teams up with his after to stop the Nazis from gaining control of the cup of Christ.

    Holla Vanessa , Welcome back 🎬 🤠 🍿 , Happy Autumn 🍁
" The man with the Hat is back & this time he's brought his Dad "
It's exciting to see if this turns out to be your favorite adventure. I like that were getting a origin story & learning more about what makes Indy tick. River Phoenix had such star power & went to soon probably could have gotten his own spin - off ( like the short aired TV show). He really got the mannerisms down , Ford put in a good word casting him because they previously were both in the movie the mosquito coast. Rip Roaring Action , so that's why he's so scared of 🐍 , whilst cracking the whip he cut his chin in the exact spot as Harrison's scar. The stunts were cleverly timed it was like something out of the silent greats , what a bunch of buffoons. Dam & after going through all that he had to give up the cross , whoever that guy was he looked cool i give him that.
Cool transaction & using that line " it belongs in a museum" again. They used a dozen dump water tanks for that scene , that was a hell of a 🚢 💥. It amazes me how Indy in a life or death battle one moment & back teaching like nothing happened the next. It doesn't surprise me that all the girls have a crush but that's taking it to far , some of us have been there adoring that one teacher growing up, I know i have.
I found the story about the holy Grail more mysterious & intriguing ( that was missing from the last one) it stirs the imagination wondering what could be , maybe you already know about the Turin shroud that was in the News recently. One of the things I like the most about this movies is uncovering all the clues , the tablet reminded me of when I went brass rubbing on school trips. Venice makes a wonderful movie location , X marks the spot , Indy & Co are always getting themselves into squeamish situations , they have a thing about skulls in every movie. Which do you think is worser 100's of snakes or rats It was a smart move using a air pocket & the 🐭 knew it too , from the long shots you can tell they used 1000's of mechanical ones.
The Boat race was awesome ( I like the craftsmanship) " go between them , are you crazy" this isn't the time to argue Elsa , you couldn't tell if they used a stunt double or not , Ford does like to most of it himself. Another super 💥
Alison Doody was a Captivating femme fatale ( you wouldn't believe she's really Irish) you have good instincts seeing right through her so early on. A castle makes a great setting come rain or shine , Indy nailed it with the Scottish accent. It was a a stroke of genius pairing Sean Connery with Ford , there witty banter so funny & memorable , I like the deeper meaning at the heart of the story which I will touch on more in part two. Did you see it coming that Donovan would be a traitor ( he wasn't happy about his American accent ) You were spot on about Elsa , Indy shouldn't have let his feelings cloud his judgement in the heat of the moment , easier said than done , when it comes to the diary listen to your dad. The way Indy delivered that line so seriously was so unexpectedly funny , we just knew Markus was gonna be out of his depth.
Muchas Gracias Vanessa , sorry I posted late , it was after midnight & the neighbors have been noisy all day putting in a new kitchen so I couldn't send anything until now. I've already watched part 2 & will also add a comment as soon as I can. God bless , hope you've been having a marvelous day. Take care 😄 💗🌺 🖐️
Extra facts: Sean Connery wasn't the first choice for Henry , Gregory Peck was in the running but Spielberg always been a fan of James Bond so that's why he got the part.
Lucas wanted the Holy Grail to be at the center of the story but Spielberg wanted it to be more about the father & son relationship but they both eventually got what they wanted.
Connery wasn't sure about taking the role & was just 12 years older than Ford , but did so as long as he could have more of a say in the character suggesting some lines & jokes.

Vanessa, each Indiana Jones film is a stand alone story. There is very little connecting each film. That's one reason why he doesn't believe in "hocus pocus" in each film... until the end. This is just like the old Saturday afternoon matinee short adventure films from the 1940's that Indiana Jones was inspired by.
I don't know if you continued on with the franchise, but the last two are IMHO... lesser films, by a lot. I always end with "Crusade" as they ride off into the sunset.

My favorite Indiana Jones movie, genius casting to make his father the original James Bond.
I remember the opening threw me off the first time, missed that when his friend was talking, he referred to River as "Indiana"; so I thought the other guy who looked like him was a new casting for Indiana Jones, bummed me out for a minute.
^ Strange bit of lore about the man who gave Indy his hat, that's actually the father of Marion from the first movie. In "Raiders of the Lost Ark," when Indy first meets up with Marion at her bar, she says her father died and Indy is grief-stricken at the news; that's the man they were talking about.
Also, I know women, especially online, are all too used to men showering them with compliments but I still gotta say: Gorgeous look with the hat 👍
Big fan of the channel for a couple years now, since the pandemic. Keep it up chica :)
