    This video from 10 years ago saved my life.
    I found like 35 fans in the garbage, all working, but most of them were 3 pin fan with thermal control.
    Now I can implement them in new projects.

    Interesting video.. I like how the fan had the thermsistor mounted right on the side of the fan (nice and simple). I don't recommend removing this as the life of the fan will go down substantially, but if you decided to, you should also solder the leads for better electrical connection.

    Hook up potentiometer to the thermistor wires and there you go a variable speed fan

    Hi, i have an Sensflow EFC0912BF 4W022 with the same thermistor on it, the idea is take off the thermistor and put a potentiometer, the thermistor make 10K ohms on freezer very good for slow speed, so put the 10K pots for variable speed.

    If your fairly sure of your soldering skills, I recommend soldering two wires onto the leads of the thermistor & then to a switch.
    I modified a few of these with switches so I could go from thermal control to full speed when needed. Saves the thermistor & adds another level of control :)

  • @RyokuKitsune
    @RyokuKitsune 8 лет назад +2

    pro-tip. if you have an exposed thermoresistor you can just bridge it with a bread tie and snip that off without modifying your fan. while this technique is valid its also over kill. unless you want to hook up your fan to a dedicated (compatible) temperature controller there isn't much need for this mod. other wise you'd need to balance your fan duty cycle to prevent it from burning out withing a year or two of use...

    Hello,
    i would be really happy if you could hellp me.
    i have a case fan with a thermistor(i use it as a cooler for an old graphic card) that automatically speeds up the fan.
    I want the fan to be as quiet as possible so i want to reduce the fan speed.
    is there a way to manipulate the thermistor to make the fan run slower?

    • @CubeComputerChannel
      @CubeComputerChannel  6 лет назад

      If you can determine the resistance value of the thermistor at a given temperature by desoldering the thermistor from the fan and measuring its value with a multimeter, you can replace it with an extension wire with a potentiometer (rheostat) of similar resistance to the thermistor, and be able to control the fan speed.

    • @peterernst2989
      @peterernst2989 6 лет назад

      either cool the thermistor, or replace it with a different resistor of higher resistance (a variable resitor would probably be best)

    Hi, thanks for making and sharing this video. Can anyone give me some advice on how to wire a case fan to mains supply. I have an ARTIC F8 PWM PST CO DC 12V 0.09A case fan with three strands of wire attached. Thanks

    • @CubeComputerChannel
      @CubeComputerChannel  4 года назад

      If you are referring to 120/240V mains, you would need at least a simple plug-in AC adapter that can supply 12V DC 0.09A. If you want the fan to run slower, you can choose a power supply down to 5V DC.

    OK, time for the smart-ass reply. If you are just twisting the ends together anyway? Why don't you just grip the thermistor with the pliers and twist it? Cutting the thermistor off doesn't seem to add anything to the finished modification?

    • @logmeindangit
      @logmeindangit 5 лет назад +1

      @@yangexue6596 - you missed Robert Kubrick's point. The snipping was not necessary. He could have just grabbed onto the thermistor and twisted it until the legs touched. Snipping it off was not needed. It would be bypassed by the short.
      He could also have just left it alone, untwisted, unsnipped, and wrapped the thermistor's little legs together with some fine, stranded, insulation-free wire, just like a cowboy in a rodeo calf-roping event. Be sure to raise both hands high in the air as soon as you finish, though, so the rodeo judges know to stop the timer!

    just twist a wire around the thermo resistor to bypass it. Once there is a short created, the electricity will be moving along the short, so its pointless to do any extra steps like cutting off the thermo resistor then twisting the metal. Also, what if you break a wire while twisting it? what if you cut too much metal off? Then you can't twist it or tie a wire to it.
