Fighter pilot here, This was awesome dude! Some science to help steer your design choices. Ground effect: the effect of extra lift being generated when the airplane is close to the ground. This happens based on wingspan length and not surface area of the wings. As a pilot you will feel the effects of ground effect once you're about 1/2 the distance above the ground of your aircraft's wingspan. Planes like the T-38 and F-16 I don't feel as much ground affect as say a cessna or a glider, hope that helps next time Underrated channel and hope you grow into something big!
What about a low wing configuration? Too many years ago, I trained on piper Cherokees (PA 28). My first reasonably good landing (ie-one that didn't cause my instructor, a retired B36 pilot, to verify his upper dental plate was still "upper") seemed soooo smooth, I felt like "take that! Chuck Yeager" untill I applied the brakes, which DID NOTHING. My instructor camly sat and said "end of the runway is getting close." I said something like "Uh..." He calmly pushed the yolk forward with his finger. THUD on the nose wheel, then the mains banged down. We didn't rebound, thank the gods, and Pottstown-Limerick airport had a generous overrun with nice, fluffy grass to slow down, and for the prop to weed-wack. While we taxied back to the ramp, he just said "ground effect. Read about it. Again."
That’s a very similar landing technique as the air force jets use, especially delta wings! I liked this one, I was so happy with the slow mo with the wings wobbling around, super cool. Looks like the average passenger jet roll out. Didn’t think I’ll be so excited with a paper plane when I fly the Airbuses on a daily basis, but there it is!
Another variable to look out for eith paper planes is after a few throws, the nose is most likely crumpled. This messes with consistency, aero, etc. A lot of the designs i like to fold and fly usually have flat noses or reinforced noses for that reason. Reinforced being usually a few more folds up front making it ridged. This also allows it to fly outside better too with the increased nose weight. Happy flying!
Nicely done. Attaining natural stability is a huge asset for making an aircraft with nice characteristics. So what you've learnt here will give you a head start for moving on to bigger projects.
Life lesson here: repeating the same thing over and over expecting a different result is insane. Changing it, and never stopping until you succeed: genius.
Me so ignorant. Because I have some experience in aerodynamics, my first thought, nah that can't be done. When the final revealing slow mo of the butter landing appeared, my jaw dropped. Keep doing what you do, you have a great knack for aviation. Well done!
i kept thinking about the weight rear of the CG and simplifying.. and how since steering isnt needed once on the ground, how skids/ reverse wing tip/gear integration and a nose gear can be a Sewing pin. Regardless, your video told a story and this is what makes for a great channel.. keep it up !.. subscribed.
You could have tried folding up the wing-tips, to make little winglets. That makes some paper planes fly much better. And a tail fin too, by tearing the bottom rear centre, and popping it up.
Pro tip : fold skyking by takau toda and adjust the elevators extremely. This results in smooth landing. Mine landed and again take of in the sky obviously not for long but it is fun to experiment.

i want you to make a water landing plane
Now, a tail dragger😈

No one asked for this, or even thought one should do it. But now I'm completely satisfied that now it's a things. Thanks!

Thank you very much for this information 👍 I’m planning on doing a lot of future videos about ground effect aircrafts
Let me guess which jet got assigned to you

Build the launcher so it can smooth landing everytime
Hello friend! I'm an airline pilot. I loved your video and want to congratulate you on your landings! Bravo!
WHY ARENT YOU FAMOUS YET BRO YOU HAVE TALENT

Im wondering the same thing
This less than 4 min long video felt like a freakin legit documentary on how to build a paper plane that can land smoothly!
Dude you have the aviation spirit! Nicely done! This was so satisfying to watch. Those landings tho!! Love it

My throws were all different each time. I said I was changing the angle, height, or the speed each time
This is some great retro noughts youtube content right here. Love the production value, and the airplane! Think it looks rather snazzy as it lands.
I LOVE this!!!!! So simple, something I've wanted to do for the longest!!! Definitely subscribing
First butter landing done by a paper plane
I've done this way before with my own acrobat 1 design which is in my channel soo ok
bro landed better than a ryanair pilot

You can actually use the standard pinch in method to create a tail drag landing gear. Has the advantage of keeping the weight at the front
Very nice! Keep this up.
One time, unintentionally, I made a plane out of paper and every time I threw it it landed perfectly.
Wow man, incredible!
omg I remember playing with this same problem when I was younger. love to see it
I used to do things like this all the time in middle and highschool. I should have recorded it and posted. Keep it up

i think ground effect also takes a part here since it creates more lift before touchdown, helping it butter when its already at a decent angle
True
