One of my favorite details about this movie is how earlier in the film, when describing the photo he had of Sarah, Kyle muses that he used to look at it and would wonder what she was thinking about in that moment. She was thinking about him.
That Hudson soundbite from Aliens (Kyle Reese is in that too) totally caught me off guard, after the brief confusion of hearing something that I recognized but knew was out of place I laughed out loud. The "bonk" sound effect that was placed over Reese hitting the Terminator was funny as well.

In fact, it was so popular that a few of Arnold's movies that followed "The Terminator" uses the quote in really funny ways. Here are some more classics to react to someday: "Duck Soup" (1933); "Bringing Up Baby" (1938); "The Awful Truth" (1937); "Goodbye, Mr. Chips" (1939) and "Gone With the Wind" (1939).

You cut out one of my favorite scenes. The kids huddled around the TV with the fire in it. I just thought it perfectly showed how much life had changed for the survivors.
You've never seen this film, yet when the Terminator starts to cut itself open, you start singing the chorous to the Smurfs song from the 1970's...priceless!!!
I totally respect your squeamishness. It's a tribute to the film maker that you were so drawn in, that the special effects felt real. When I hit stretched like that, I instantly dissociate myself & wonder how they made such believable effects. AND he did it on such a low budget. No one - except maybe James Cameron & Gayle Anne Hued - expected it to become a classic. Just a low budget B-movie. This made the careers of everyone involved. I deserves its 'film classic' status. Thanks for watching! 😁
"And then her son will be the target" was a TV series, "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" with Lena Heady (later in Game of Thrones) and Summer Glau (from Firefly).
This reaction was hilarious Mary . I especially liked the song you were singing in the police station scene . You probably should watch the sequel. A lot of people consider it better than the first one . To me the first one’s better.
OJ Simpson was considered to play the role of the Terminator, but James Cameron changed his mind, saying "He's too much of a nice guy to play the role of a ruthless killer."😳🤦 Tom Selleck, Lance Henriksen, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone were considered as well. Bruce Springsteen, Michael O'Keefe, Tommy Lee Jones, Christopher Reeve, Sting, Scott Glenn, and Matt Dillon were considered for Kyle Reese. Lea Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jessica Harper, Melissa Sue Anderson, Rosanna Arquette, and Lisa Langolis were considered for Sarah Connor.
#2 gets made about 10 years later. The special effects are way better and I think it's an even better movie than #1 Can't wait to see your reaction to it. Please don't make us wait too long!
James Cameron the director is actually a really good artist, he drew the Terminator skeleton, and the Alien Queen from "Aliens". Terminator skeleton actually came to him in a nightmare. Stan Winston then brought his drawings to physical life.
OMG Mary, you had me laughing so hard in this reaction. You were in rare form. Any how the second movie is amazing, you will not be disappointed, hope you don't wait too long to watch the sequel.
It’s interesting how your reaction to the Terminator endoskeleton emerging from the fire is “People need to sleep at night!” since James Cameron first got the idea for The Terminator from a nightmare on which this particular scene was based.
Terminator 2 is one of the better sequels out there. Definitely watch that one next. Like someone else pointed out, watch the theatrical cut not the directors cut. The theatrical cut's ending if far superior than the director's cut ending. So yes please watch T2 but then for the love of God, stop, anything after 2 is not worth it.
Only at the introduction but I suspect this movie will not be your "cup of tea". However Terminator 2 is a great movie (James Cameron) and more "human" in many ways. I think you will enjoy that one much more.
I have a nephew who's named after Reese. That's how much my family loves this movie. He was almost named after Capt. Kirk from Star Trek, the original series and Lt. Worf from Star Trek: The Next Generation. We're sci-fi geeks.
Hi Mary, as everyone has already told you. Terminator 2 is one of those classic film sequels that are are not only as good as the original but use the settings, characters and themes already established to tell a truly meaningful story. Millions of death-mad teenage boys around the world had to choke back tears at the end of T2.
Just going to throw out there that if you are going to recommend Terminator 2 (which I agree with), don't assume she knows anything about it! Keeping all of the movie's surprises, even ones that were given away in the 1991 advertising, will make for a more entertaining video.
Fun fact: When the camera shows the Terminator's eye fading, all the smoke coming from the Terminator is actually just James Cameron blowing smoke onto the robot and press. I think they couldn't get a smoke machine, or the smoke machine on hand didn't produce the effect he wanted. Also bonus fact, James Cameron was a known chain smoker at the time.
It's sad in that beautiful way that Kyle never knew Sarah was thinking about him in the picture. A love that stretched across time captured in a little snapshot which he in turn fell in love with. Of course when I was a kid it was just "Yeah action go boom!"
You definitely gotta watch the sequel. One of the best action movies ever I think.

Yea, but for sure stop at T2. After that, it is just a quick ride downhill.

You cut out one of my favorite scenes. The kids huddled around the TV with the fire in it. I just thought it perfectly showed how much life had changed for the survivors.
I love the soundtrack to that when thay make their way dawn the stairs before entering the secure area
You've never seen this film, yet when the Terminator starts to cut itself open, you start singing the chorous to the Smurfs song from the 1970's...priceless!!!
That song you start singing at 21:30 is HILARIOUS!!! Your reactions are always so fantastic 😆
This movie ranked at #82 in 100 scariest movie moments on Bravo, cool reaction as always Mary, take care sweetie 🥰🥰
Loved the "BONK" you added!
Terminator 2: Judgement Day is considered one of the best sequels ever made. Definitely a must watch.
Terminator two. watch this one next , its a trip
"And then her son will be the target" was a TV series, "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" with Lena Heady (later in Game of Thrones) and Summer Glau (from Firefly).
yes Mary, the sequel is awesome as well.
20:04 -- if I had one eye, you can bet your ass that I'd have someone make me a glass one with a red LED in it.
This reaction was hilarious Mary . I especially liked the song you were singing in the police station scene . You probably should watch the sequel. A lot of people consider it better than the first one . To me the first one’s better.
OJ Simpson was considered to play the role of the Terminator, but James Cameron changed his mind, saying "He's too much of a nice guy to play the role of a ruthless killer."😳🤦
Tom Selleck, Lance Henriksen, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone were considered as well.
Please don't make us wait too long!
it was actually made seven years later (1991) although its storyline is set in the then future time period of (1995) due to John being born in 1985
James Cameron the director is actually a really good artist, he drew the Terminator skeleton, and the Alien Queen from "Aliens". Terminator skeleton actually came to him in a nightmare. Stan Winston then brought his drawings to physical life.
Actually, yes- these movies DO have a level of worrisome, disturbing and outright scary parts.
Kyle always wondered what Sarah was thinking about in the photo...and she was thinking about him.
There’s a third version with some of the extra scenes, but the theatrical ending.
"He's too persistent for my liking" is without a doubt the funniest thing I've heard anyone ever say about the Terminator.
Awesome reaction! There are a few sequels that are equal to or even better than the first. T2 definitely fits in that category!
@ 18:48 LOL
Your 30 cops song was wonderful. You'll probably love 2
Always LOVE your reactions Mary!!
Reese fell in love with Sarah, looking at a picture of her that was taken when she was thinking about how much she loved him.
Loved the reaction! Please watch the 2nd one
His first starring role was Conan the Barbarian (a fun sword and sorcery flick) in 82, Terminator 1 was 85, and Predator was 87.
If you watch terminator 2 I recommend the theatrical cut.
Agreed. The extra scenes are cool to check out after but they ruin the pacing in my opinion.
I prefer the 2017 remaster. Just make sure to watch a version with the original ending, and it's all good.
Another reactor summarized the movie this way: "They're fighting over her vagina!" Unique, but accurate.
It's sad in that beautiful way that Kyle never knew Sarah was thinking about him in the picture. A love that stretched across time captured in a little snapshot which he in turn fell in love with. Of course when I was a kid it was just "Yeah action go boom!"
Great reaction as always! You'll love T2! Please watch it :)
