Thinking of replacing my giant paper filter pump,with a sand fiter,removing heavy paper filter a few times each summer to clean with garden hose is ridiculous... i'll do more research on this.but not having to ever deal with 100 pounds of sand...nice
@@PerfectionHunter NO FilterBalls do not slowly deteriorate into micro plastics.. Sand manufactures recommend changing every 2-3 years. Glass does not last 15 years, nor "forever" as some claim... Facts are: granular medias, like sand and glass, require hard angular edges to trap dirt. Hard angular edges wear down and become rounded.. like beach glass and beach sand. Rounded sand and glass media, need to be replaced, and that completely depends on velocity and volume of water flowed through and around the glass or sand. Which is proportional to the length of time you run your pump and the duration of your pool season.
I have never tried these new filter balls. We are having to replace our sand filter with a new filter. I am interested in using this product. How often do you have to change/clean the filter balls? Thank you.
The threshold for initiating the backwash cycle is: a rise of 4-5 psi over the initial psi when the media was first installed or 30 days, whichever comes first. If the regular backwashing process does not clean the media. A sand filter media cleaner can be used. Follow the manufacturers recommendation on how to use the sand filter media cleaner you selected. If the source of contamination is clarifiers, BioGuard™, Bacqucil™, phosphate removers, etc.. use the cleaner for that brand of chemical treatment. While there are no chemicals used in the pool industry that will degrade FilterBalls, due to the inherent efficiencies and increased surface area reduced dosages are called for. When/if applying clarifiers or metal removers; please reduce the dosage to 1/3rd of suggested dosage and run the system a little longer between dosages.

FilterBalls were designed, developed and have always been completely manufactured in the heartland of the United States. FilterBalls were engineered for use in sand type housings, not filter housings configured for cartridge or DE. That said there are some creative options the DIY pool owners have come up with for using FilterBalls media, that seem to work for them. One such option is to put FilterBalls into a mesh bag and insert in place of the pleated cartridge or the DE grid.

@Rogue Lettering , Baquacil can gum up or blind off every form of filter media, cartridge, DE, Sand and FilterBalls, et.al. They do manufacture a cleaner specifically to clean their chemicals from filter media. I suggested you use it.

My pool is 27m³ and uses cartrige for filtering. Can you use filter balls instead of cartrige as well?
