I absolutely love the Horn. I as like a ton of people before, I was suspicious about it, I thought it didnt do enough damage, had bad range... Then I really looked forward to make a real set. I got one with Attack Up XL, Maestro, Raoz Sharp Spd. Eating+2 and Evade Extender with that beautiful Seregios Horn. Fuck man why didnt I tried it sooner... People who overlook the Horn don't know how it is fun and i mean a different fun than the others weapons to hit hard, dance and make musique at the same time, helping your teamates.
Hurr Durr You can buff your teammates before entering the monster's area or, like what I do, attack the monster with the notes you need to complete a song and use it when the monster is distracted. Simple yet super fun!
Loved the video! MH4U is my first Monster Hunter game and I played HH from the very beginning and I loved it! Recently I started thinking I'd try out LBG though and was thinking I'd wait for you're Demo video for it, but decided to just try it and I find I'm liking it a lot! Looking forward to more videos!

I've played HH for over 350 hours probably and just now you showed me 2 things I didn't know! 1. I didn't know you can open up a fight with a song without unsheathing your weapon first. (R+X+A) 2. You just combined the first part of the A attack with an upward swing (X+A), which actually gives you 2 high swings and allows you to hit a monsters head twice in a row! I also want to say your coördination is amazing man.
Your videos are brilliant, you really give us a good look on weapons which most people never ever think to use. I'm very interested in playing this weapon right now, thanks!
Adam was the reason I picked HH as my weapon of choice. Lately I've been using SNS however since I find that fighting monsters with huge forearms such as Tigrex is more painful than rewarding. Still my favourite weapon however, and currently farming Tigrex Jaw to get the Tigrex Horn upgrade. Keep inspiring hunters worldwide Adam!

Hell yeah, my favorite weapon! I have a problem with Hunting Horn Shopping, though... The attack L buff is SO strong that I feel like I gotta always pick a horn with it. And that really hampers your choices... I really want all kinds of songs...
for those wondering, his tali is +10 maestro and +5 evasion. +10 maestro is common enough by the time you get into g rank, but that with a +5 evasion is a lil tougher. so the majority of us who make this set will be rocking it with evade +2, which is still good :)
Rene Herrmann Yeah, realized my mistake afterwards. Q_Q The way he said it though, made it seem like enough Exhaust damage will cause a monster to fall asleep.

Damn, you are brilliant with the Hunting Horn. I'm complete rubbish with it probably due to the fact I prefer fast and small weapons. I never even tried attacking while playing a song. I just gave myself a bunch of buffs then went into the battle.
oh man, gaijin hunter gets me. the hunter horn is awkward when you first pick it up but it's been my solo main for all of HR and GRank and i've loved it
The horn is the first weapon i picked up in 3U and i never looked back. I love this thing. I've tried others and i do like insect glaive, but hh for life. It's just my perfect weapon
Thanks for this, I see my hunts can be more efficient if I stand at better angles. I tend to X, A, X, A, X, A on heads but while facing them directly and sometimes I just miss.
Ah, my main weapon. I have a lot of good times with the Hunting Horn. I remember when I said I was interested in it, and all my Hunting friends were really excited since they knew just how useful a hunt is. Regardless of what people think of it, nobody should ever turn down a good HH player. Personally, I'm loving the Excello Z set, looks cool and has nice skills. I just need a better charm so I can get Horn Maestro with less decorations.
I tried hunting horn for the first time the other day. In fact it was this one, I had a bunch of extra Gogmazios parts and it looked cool. Sounds awesome as well. It seems to be a really fun weapon, but I had no idea what I was doing with it so I got clobbered.
i think the main job of this weapon is to both stun & buffs ! you seems to be hella good at the horn, and i would have loved to have an online comrade playing it ! i'm a bowgun user that tends to pick up light bowgun with many support type of ammo, like paralysis, sleep ...etc i think it's just fun to influence on the fight like that!
I like that you emphasized the hunting horn is not a pure support weapon. It's something many people get wrong and so did I when I began using it. I've always liked support classes in online games and when you grab a hunting horn you easily get the impulse to focus on the buffs way too much (because you're the only one -insert heroic music here- who can do it). But standing in a corner avoiding the fight just to get a song played is not very supportive. You miss out on doing a lot of damage (plus KO and exhaust that offers openings for tons of extra ouchies) that would make the fight end much earlier. So thumbs up for the video!
Hm. Very nice, very nice. I've always wanted to use the Hunting Horn a lot more, but given just HOW much position work needs to be done, I think I'd be better off with my usual of Great Sword and Dual Blades
gowildmouse i worked it out as i was wondering too, he's using Black Belt Helm and Vambraces with the Brachydium Mail, Vangis Coil X and Maiden's Socks X. He has an evasion jewel 2 and a spirit jewel 1 on the chest and his talisman has evasion+5 and maestro +10. If like me you don't have such a nice charm or even a maestro +10 charm, just swap the spirit jewel 1 on the chest for a maestro jewel 1 and use a spirit+5 talisman instead. You can gem the evasion to +3 if you need to using a triple slot weapon. Hope this helps! :)

FragCJ Wait, so the only point of the Vangis Coil X, The maiden Socks X, and the two Black Belt parts is for Torso up? Because I do not have those parts unlocked quite yet, so would this still work with four other Torso Up parts?
mostly I think hunting horn is underused because many people think that they need to memorize all the songs for each individual horn, instead of selecting 2 specific for a hunt. Sure memorizing all of them helps, but is usually unnecessary. Otherwise its relegated to being a support weapon instead of a heavy hitter. Again not true, the damage is massive, and can easily compare to the hammer. Actually considering the reach, I find it easier in some cases to get KOs with the horn rather than the hammer.
Gaijin, I started playing hunting horn recently and your tutorial helped me out a lot and I really enjoy using it so far. Now I would like you to give me some advice about which hunting horns i should get. I not 100% sure this is true but it definatly seems like it. Monsters more often than not will automatically go for hunting horn users....I didn't believe it at first...until i saw it first hand. My best friend who's a hunting horn user and I were hunting online with two random people one had a IG, one had a Lance and i had a CB. We were fighting Brachydios in the Volcanic Hollow in area 8 and I started to notice the it was REALLY gunning for my friend, but I shook it off until....The Brachydios jumped down from the top part of 8 to chase him for a moment, turn around went to the wall climbed back and, and then as soon as my friend had played a song...IT TURNED BACK AROUND jumped down, and proceeded to run after him to the entrance to area 9, and then follow him into 9....it left an area to chase down, and cart my friend because he was playing a song....this basically happened about three times that day were the monster chased my friend to attack him because he was playing songs on his hunting horn. He carted atleast one every fight because the monster ignored the other hunters to attack him.
I just made a set with Heavy Hitter, atkL, evasion+2 and Horn Maestro. I can swap the arms, waist and legs out for armor pieces I already had from other sets to have Heavy Hitter, atkL, evasion+1, sharpness+1 and horn maestro for the HH's that need sharpness+1. Not as good as this set, but it has a groovy cape^^
if you're still doing this series, are you taking requests for the next weapon you showcase? Because I kinda want to see some longsword and/or SnS play.
I understand hunting horn, and I always want one on my team. I am not that good with the horn yet though. The horn's biggest problem is that it seems tricky to use, and it's hard to find any actually good users. It's mixed between those that do no songs and use it like a club and those that play songs and forget it's a weapon. :|
You think you can explain all the different Type of Skills(Like Whim and Team player) and what they do how they can help you in a hunt please. n.n It would be nice to have a breakdown of each skill type instead of going online just to be lost with no clear explanation on what gear will help you and your teammates
I loved the hunting horn when I first tried it but I'm not sure if make it my main weapons because it bugs me that I can't control the timeof the buffs.
Alee Yeah, same here. When I first played the 3U demo, I was all, HUNTING HORN'S GONNA BE MAH MAIN BOIZ! But then, I never ended up using it. I'm just not very effective with it
I recently started playing MH4U again with a friend and my brother. I decided that having a hunting horn on the team would do us some good. I watched your tutorial and have really learned a lot so far. My biggest issue is that I don't get close to the monsters when I'm playing songs. It's almost as if I forget I can hit the monsters while I'm buffing the group. I find that I run off, get the buffs up, then run back and start swinging at the monster again. We just hit G1 tonight. What would you say is the best hunting horn to aim towards getting, and what set bonuses would you say are must-have for the hunting horn?
Excellent demonstration, had an interest, but now I really want to play HH! Currently I'm 5 stars Low-rank, started recently, what do you suggest me to pass the High-rank and quickly go to the G-Rank?
Mike If you're talking about horns, try to get the Master Bagpipe asap, and when you reach high rank, craft the D. Hermitaur horn. When you gain access to Seregios, craft his horn. Armor wise I'm not entirely sure but Nerscylla with maestro gemmed in could work through LR and most of HR if you upgrade it.
As the hunting horn is one of my mains, this is an amazing demonstration of the abilities of the weapon. However, there is one thing that is bugging me: as I am still going through G-rank, I am only using one weapon and I do not have a hunting horn-specific weapon, so I want to know if the HH is still viable against G-rank Stygian zinogre. I recall having a MUCH harder time with the weapon against Stygian in 3U, and so I mostly stuck to SnS, but now even SnS is difficult to use against him solo. Is the HH good against him, or are other weapons more viable for soloing against him?
I like the hunting horn's ability to produce different kinds of buffs, but the only thing that keeps me from using it is that the design looks like something you will see straight out of looney tunes... it looks.... goofy
Wow, you make using the Hunting Horn look easy. I'm rubbish with Hunting Horn probably due to the fact I prefer lighter, smaller and faster weapons to the massive, heavy, massive and slow weapons like Great sword and lance. I never even thought to attack while also playing the Hunting Horn, I just gave myself the buffs then entered the battle. Also do you think you could make a top 14 or 10 weapons? I hate weapons like the Great sword and Lance but it would be nice to see your opinion on your favourite weapon.
+Erikel Elf This may be old, but I just have to say this. There's no such thing as a top ten or top whatever weapon types in Monster Hunter. The best weapon is always the weapon you're best at.
I know, I didn't mean it in terms of "Which is the best?" or "Which is the strongest?". I meant it as in his opinion on the weapons, so which ones he likes using the most and the ones he finds he doesn't like using. DS are my favourite weapon however I hate lances however there are a lot of people who would call evade lancing the best technique in the game including him. I meant to say what is his opinion on each weapon rather than which one if the best.
I've been trying to learn HH, and I like the huge advantage using the buffs can give you. You don't just pick a horn with the most raw, but the right songs as well. Question: which is more efficient for KO and exhaust, the single A swing or the double forward-A swing? (I DO like support, and no better support than making the monster helpless!).
From what I've heard x a alternating is best KO combo amd good exhaust, x or a then forward superslam for damage. I'm not entirely sure if these are best but it's what I go by and seems to work quite well. Also start shortcut for pommel hit is so good for quick notes and plays.
***** Right now I've been using the white fatalis HH, got it from some random white fatty fight when I was going in to farm fatalis through searches and it was a tough fight. But I keep switching between horns like Goggy's and Teo's... Oddly enough I don't really use Seregios HH that often. I've also only met a single HH user in all my hunts and they were really good as well, he also said I was good. Since I had a HH with melody extend we didn't have to refresh any songs for the whole fight and it was amazing (he had I think Kecha with stamina song). Also I don't know who steve is...
This is my set in a perfect world; but nowadays DB's, CB, IG's users ALWAYS go for the head, leaving HH & Hammer users hitting different parts of the monster's body, unless, of course you wanna be in the cluster mess.
Would you mind giving the armor set you use? I could read/see the black belt head/hands and critBrach armor, maid boots (what's the substitute for male characters?) but not the waist. (also, how did you do the double "behind-slam" attacks?)
***** Everything besides the torso is torso up, so any of these: Head - Skull Face, Black Belt Helm | Arm - Black Belt Arm | Tasset - Remobra Belt, Chrome Metal Coil, Vangis Coil, Esurient Faulds, Vangis Coil X, Esurient Faulds Z | Greaves - Tetsucabra Greaves, Chrome Metal Boots, Tetsucabra S Greaves, Tetsucabra X Greaves, Guild Knight Boots, Velociprey Greaves X Also theres two ways to do backwards slams with HH. The first is to neutral recital by pressing R without a direction input while already playing a song. The other is to press X and A at the same time without direction input.
What skills do you have on your talisman and what are the decorations you put on the chestplate? There aren't many great full or mixed sets out there for horn users, so I was hoping to replicate yours. :/
Gaijin hunter I have been playing mh4u and it was my first my game and I ran into a problem. Some weapons say it has an element but won't do any elemental damage. They are all rarity 4 weapons but some rarity 4 elements do elemental damage. Can you help out or am I too early in the game. I just fought a cephadrome in single player and went to HR 4.
So, GH, what's your opinion on the timing to play songs for those unfamiliar with the timing? when I've been using the HH, I feel as if I'm always going for a combo that can play a song, at all times. Is this a good thing to do, and if not, what can I do to make it more flexible in combat?

Thanks for doing all these vids. Watching the tutorials before I started playing made me use a hunting horn (altho im only recently hr3 now) and its fun to use. The very first online quest I did someone said "Wow a hunting horn!" and even though i carted once the group didn't mind as I kept the atk up buff on. This was probably random and long-winded to read but just saying I personally appreciate ur videos. Quick question if u don't mind: what low rank hunting horn/s should I have before I go up to high rank?
***** Honestly, i preferred to use zinogre's horn (Don't go stygian tristata when upgrading it though) It's like master bagpipe songwise (attk L, Def L, Health up) But it's an electric guitar and does thunder damage. The khezu horn is cool, but i never really used it. Tigrex is decent, so i'd say go with that if zinogre's isn't readily available. And brachy? I lable his horn under "Awesome damage, but the songs are lack luster" Most of his songs are status negations, so unless you're going into a fight with a ton of status, you won't be playing a ton of songs. So, i guess the top 3 i say to use would be Zinogre's (The thunder line, not dragon), Najarala's horn (Like tigrex songwise, but can cause para, where tigrex's needs to be awakened for blast), and, if you can find someone with the basarios guild quest, Basarios' horn (Later on, it gets negation of stamina, and, if going with ruby basarios, the sleep element. STAY AWAY FROM THE VALKYRIE CHORDMAKER. (It's not a bad horn, but the upgrade isn't complete yet, as you need g-rank gold rathian parts. So, make the horn and upgrade it as far as you can, but there are other horns that can takes it's place, and it's a bit of a pain to upgrade {Plates, Rubies, the usual complaints)) So Yeah, that's my two cents! It's really awesome to see someone else maining hunting horns! (I'm currently g-rank gold crown with hr 176) Good luck, and know, Capcom made the bard the bad ass! :D
Oh trust me, there's no problem for liking a horn for how it looks, and the songs are meant for your playstyle! I just prefer to have all around horns in case someone faints. Otherwise, i try and use Teostra's horn as much as possible! (I quickly learned that all around horns like Gog's is amazing to have BECAUSE of the Act of Gog quest ;-;... so much fainting...)
While I am using the horn in multiplayer, there are people who run up to the monsters face and attack it while it's down and I don't have a good way to attack it without smacking someone else who's in my way. Are there any combos that won't trip my team mates or do I have to speak up about this in every multiplayer session?
I remember when you said on thumblr that Knockout King and Stamina Thief are not worth it (and you were right!) on hammers/horns and now you show us your HH set with those skills. Some weird logic if you ask me. Horn is fun to use but many monsters are either impossible to KO like Rajang or really tall like Najarala so you can't reach head. Zinogre is good monster to fight with HH but you won't always fight Zinogre. In most cases you end up smashing random monsters parts just to do "some" damage. Not as fun as it sounds on paper. Also compared to CB or Glaive, horns just feels underpowered so in most cases horn users are just supporting with songs and doing "some" damage to not feel completely useless.

gaijin hunter Again, Brachydios, very easy monster to fight with horn. Head is easily accessible most of the time. I agree that horns are great versus certain monsters but you can't base your statement how weapon is "powerful" on few monsters. Now what about Rajang, Najarala, Chameleos etc. I know I'm kindo of doing it right now, but what I'd like to say is, horn is not good on everything unlike Glaive, CB, GS and many other. It works on some things and on other things just not.
antariantariantari The horn still deals very high damage even if you don't hit the head, and your teammates will love your buffs. It's a viable weapon for each and every monster. Saying Rajang's head is impossible to hit is true for every damn weapon, since being in front of that thing is suicide unless it's trapped, Najarala's head is nearly impossible to hit with all weapons, so that point is moot as well, I KO Chameleos regularly with the horn unless it's a stupidly huge one, so there goes that one as well. What else is there? Oh yes, none, you can easily reach most all monsters' heads and have higher DPS than hammer.
MrHuopatossu Yeah I'd like to see how many KO's you're doing to Cham with horn. I suspect it's max 1 per run which is just sad. "Really" worth it going for the head whole time and risking a lot. Also going for Cham head is suicide by it's own as on lv140 it'll poisonbreath you to death most of the time. Considering the fact that you have to play that attack song to BARELY keep up with hammer damage output, your whole argument about it having higher DPS is moot. The weapon itself was good few generations ago but in 4th is simply left in shadow as Charge Blade deals KO better, Hammer has higher damage output and is faster in general. There's also Glaive which get buffs for yourself. So you better go play songs for your team mates boy and stop dreamin. You're basically using nerfed hammer with cool gimmick (songs). It's definately viable but in most cases you end up using something which gets job done better'n faster. There's only one thing which horns does better and it's called exhaust. But who really cares, monsters dies so fast either way...
antariantariantari Ah, you're one of THOSE guys, I guess minmaxer would be an appropriate term? If something is even slightly worse than something else, it's automatically shit. Yeah, okay, arguing with you about this is absolutely pointless then. You only said what other weapons do better but completely disregarded what the horn does better, what with having great reach, amazing moveset and good DPS, not to mention the buffs, so you're completely biased on your opinion. Maybe you just suck at using the weapon, tried it a few times and then disregarded it as trash?
I've played a lot of HH and it's one of my favorite weapons but there are some things I still don't understand. I always wait for a song effect to end before I play it again, but I think I heard you mention "refreshing" a song? Wouldn't that just play the encore, which, if I had already activated it, would result in a wasted recital?
I am stuck at the G3 urgent quest against Gogmazios, and I am unable to solo it myself (even with a G-class maxed out armor set at that point plus a maxed out weapon). Is it possible if you make a tutorial on how to do it or if you know any websites that hunters meet each other just to help them pass some quest? I have a few set of rare 10 armor, and I have the MH4G

Never thought about building evasion on a horn set, I was planning on building the brachydium set for my horn anyway as its fantastic.

Yeah, realized my mistake afterwards. Q_Q The way he said it though, made it seem like enough Exhaust damage will cause a monster to fall asleep.

Damn, you are brilliant with the Hunting Horn. I'm complete rubbish with it probably due to the fact I prefer fast and small weapons. I never even tried attacking while playing a song. I just gave myself a bunch of buffs then went into the battle.
Wow, what a monstrous armor setup! Only downside is not high grade earplugs with normal horn setups, but other than that, your a beast.
GUN1GRAVE yeah for my other horns I use HQ earplugs, but evasion+3 is pretty much earplugs if you evade ^^
oh man, gaijin hunter gets me. the hunter horn is awkward when you first pick it up but it's been my solo main for all of HR and GRank and i've loved it

The horn is the first weapon i picked up in 3U and i never looked back. I love this thing. I've tried others and i do like insect glaive, but hh for life. It's just my perfect weapon

Thanks for this, I see my hunts can be more efficient if I stand at better angles. I tend to X, A, X, A, X, A on heads but while facing them directly and sometimes I just miss.
Ah, my main weapon. I have a lot of good times with the Hunting Horn. I remember when I said I was interested in it, and all my Hunting friends were really excited since they knew just how useful a hunt is. Regardless of what people think of it, nobody should ever turn down a good HH player.
Personally, I'm loving the Excello Z set, looks cool and has nice skills. I just need a better charm so I can get Horn Maestro with less decorations.

I tried hunting horn for the first time the other day. In fact it was this one, I had a bunch of extra Gogmazios parts and it looked cool. Sounds awesome as well. It seems to be a really fun weapon, but I had no idea what I was doing with it so I got clobbered.
i think the main job of this weapon is to both stun & buffs ! you seems to be hella good at the horn, and i would have loved to have an online comrade playing it ! i'm a bowgun user that tends to pick up light bowgun with many support type of ammo, like paralysis, sleep ...etc i think it's just fun to influence on the fight like that!

I like that you emphasized the hunting horn is not a pure support weapon. It's something many people get wrong and so did I when I began using it. I've always liked support classes in online games and when you grab a hunting horn you easily get the impulse to focus on the buffs way too much (because you're the only one -insert heroic music here- who can do it). But standing in a corner avoiding the fight just to get a song played is not very supportive. You miss out on doing a lot of damage (plus KO and exhaust that offers openings for tons of extra ouchies) that would make the fight end much earlier. So thumbs up for the video!

Hm. Very nice, very nice. I've always wanted to use the Hunting Horn a lot more, but given just HOW much position work needs to be done, I think I'd be better off with my usual of Great Sword and Dual Blades

Zinogre vs Hunting Horn is just not fair. You almost think the weapon was designed to fight that monster, its straight up perfect angle wise.

High rank arena head and arm (black belt), vangis X waist, and g rank arena maid socks x. :)
gowildmouse i worked it out as i was wondering too, he's using Black Belt Helm and Vambraces with the Brachydium Mail, Vangis Coil X and Maiden's Socks X. He has an evasion jewel 2 and a spirit jewel 1 on the chest and his talisman has evasion+5 and maestro +10. If like me you don't have such a nice charm or even a maestro +10 charm, just swap the spirit jewel 1 on the chest for a maestro jewel 1 and use a spirit+5 talisman instead. You can gem the evasion to +3 if you need to using a triple slot weapon. Hope this helps! :)

yes it would as long as you have the Brachydium mail, by that point you should have the rest unlocked.

mostly I think hunting horn is underused because many people think that they need to memorize all the songs for each individual horn, instead of selecting 2 specific for a hunt. Sure memorizing all of them helps, but is usually unnecessary.
Otherwise its relegated to being a support weapon instead of a heavy hitter. Again not true, the damage is massive, and can easily compare to the hammer. Actually considering the reach, I find it easier in some cases to get KOs with the horn rather than the hammer.

I not 100% sure this is true but it definatly seems like it. Monsters more often than not will automatically go for hunting horn users....I didn't believe it at first...until i saw it first hand. My best friend who's a hunting horn user and I were hunting online with two random people one had a IG, one had a Lance and i had a CB. We were fighting Brachydios in the Volcanic Hollow in area 8 and I started to notice the it was REALLY gunning for my friend, but I shook it off until....The Brachydios jumped down from the top part of 8 to chase him for a moment, turn around went to the wall climbed back and, and then as soon as my friend had played a song...IT TURNED BACK AROUND jumped down, and proceeded to run after him to the entrance to area 9, and then follow him into 9....it left an area to chase down, and cart my friend because he was playing a song....this basically happened about three times that day were the monster chased my friend to attack him because he was playing songs on his hunting horn. He carted atleast one every fight because the monster ignored the other hunters to attack him.
shadeofdeadlynight they do. horn users or horn item users, and gunners get extra aggro against them as the monster is more annoyed by it ^^

Tip:use 4 torso up pieces on narga chest with maestro+8 00 charm. It's a good set.
+matthew vang Using it on kush chest gives you +3 on evasion, but i prefer narga chest.
I just made a set with Heavy Hitter, atkL, evasion+2 and Horn Maestro. I can swap the arms, waist and legs out for armor pieces I already had from other sets to have Heavy Hitter, atkL, evasion+1, sharpness+1 and horn maestro for the HH's that need sharpness+1. Not as good as this set, but it has a groovy cape^^
if you're still doing this series, are you taking requests for the next weapon you showcase? Because I kinda want to see some longsword and/or SnS play.
I understand hunting horn, and I always want one on my team. I am not that good with the horn yet though. The horn's biggest problem is that it seems tricky to use, and it's hard to find any actually good users. It's mixed between those that do no songs and use it like a club and those that play songs and forget it's a weapon. :|

Alee Yeah, same here. When I first played the 3U demo, I was all, HUNTING HORN'S GONNA BE MAH MAIN BOIZ! But then, I never ended up using it. I'm just not very effective with it
I recently started playing MH4U again with a friend and my brother. I decided that having a hunting horn on the team would do us some good. I watched your tutorial and have really learned a lot so far. My biggest issue is that I don't get close to the monsters when I'm playing songs. It's almost as if I forget I can hit the monsters while I'm buffing the group. I find that I run off, get the buffs up, then run back and start swinging at the monster again.
We just hit G1 tonight. What would you say is the best hunting horn to aim towards getting, and what set bonuses would you say are must-have for the hunting horn?

Mike If you're talking about horns, try to get the Master Bagpipe asap, and when you reach high rank, craft the D. Hermitaur horn. When you gain access to Seregios, craft his horn. Armor wise I'm not entirely sure but Nerscylla with maestro gemmed in could work through LR and most of HR if you upgrade it.

As the hunting horn is one of my mains, this is an amazing demonstration of the abilities of the weapon. However, there is one thing that is bugging me: as I am still going through G-rank, I am only using one weapon and I do not have a hunting horn-specific weapon, so I want to know if the HH is still viable against G-rank Stygian zinogre. I recall having a MUCH harder time with the weapon against Stygian in 3U, and so I mostly stuck to SnS, but now even SnS is difficult to use against him solo. Is the HH good against him, or are other weapons more viable for soloing against him?
I like the hunting horn's ability to produce different kinds of buffs, but the only thing that keeps me from using it is that the design looks like something you will see straight out of looney tunes... it looks.... goofy

Wow, you make using the Hunting Horn look easy. I'm rubbish with Hunting Horn probably due to the fact I prefer lighter, smaller and faster weapons to the massive, heavy, massive and slow weapons like Great sword and lance. I never even thought to attack while also playing the Hunting Horn, I just gave myself the buffs then entered the battle. Also do you think you could make a top 14 or 10 weapons? I hate weapons like the Great sword and Lance but it would be nice to see your opinion on your favourite weapon.

This may be old, but I just have to say this. There's no such thing as a top ten or top whatever weapon types in Monster Hunter. The best weapon is always the weapon you're best at.
I know, I didn't mean it in terms of "Which is the best?" or "Which is the strongest?". I meant it as in his opinion on the weapons, so which ones he likes using the most and the ones he finds he doesn't like using. DS are my favourite weapon however I hate lances however there are a lot of people who would call evade lancing the best technique in the game including him. I meant to say what is his opinion on each weapon rather than which one if the best.

I've been trying to learn HH, and I like the huge advantage using the buffs can give you. You don't just pick a horn with the most raw, but the right songs as well.
Question: which is more efficient for KO and exhaust, the single A swing or the double forward-A swing? (I DO like support, and no better support than making the monster helpless!).
Verbose Mode the double swing is actually very bad for both, it's really only good for getting a quick note. Try to not use it if possible ^^
From what I've heard x a alternating is best KO combo amd good exhaust, x or a then forward superslam for damage. I'm not entirely sure if these are best but it's what I go by and seems to work quite well. Also start shortcut for pommel hit is so good for quick notes and plays.
***** Right now I've been using the white fatalis HH, got it from some random white fatty fight when I was going in to farm fatalis through searches and it was a tough fight. But I keep switching between horns like Goggy's and Teo's... Oddly enough I don't really use Seregios HH that often.
I've also only met a single HH user in all my hunts and they were really good as well, he also said I was good. Since I had a HH with melody extend we didn't have to refresh any songs for the whole fight and it was amazing (he had I think Kecha with stamina song).

This is my set in a perfect world; but nowadays DB's, CB, IG's users ALWAYS go for the head, leaving HH & Hammer users hitting different parts of the monster's body, unless, of course you wanna be in the cluster mess.
Well, some of those are ridiculous, but CB vials do decent KO....
Especially if you go for a ultra and, boom! Instant ko.

Also theres two ways to do backwards slams with HH. The first is to neutral recital by pressing R without a direction input while already playing a song. The other is to press X and A at the same time without direction input.

Gaijin hunter I have been playing mh4u and it was my first my game and I ran into a problem. Some weapons say it has an element but won't do any elemental damage. They are all rarity 4 weapons but some rarity 4 elements do elemental damage. Can you help out or am I too early in the game. I just fought a cephadrome in single player and went to HR 4.
So, GH, what's your opinion on the timing to play songs for those unfamiliar with the timing? when I've been using the HH, I feel as if I'm always going for a combo that can play a song, at all times. Is this a good thing to do, and if not, what can I do to make it more flexible in combat?

Thanks for doing all these vids. Watching the tutorials before I started playing made me use a hunting horn (altho im only recently hr3 now) and its fun to use. The very first online quest I did someone said "Wow a hunting horn!" and even though i carted once the group didn't mind as I kept the atk up buff on. This was probably random and long-winded to read but just saying I personally appreciate ur videos. Quick question if u don't mind: what low rank hunting horn/s should I have before I go up to high rank?

***** Honestly, i preferred to use zinogre's horn (Don't go stygian tristata when upgrading it though) It's like master bagpipe songwise (attk L, Def L, Health up) But it's an electric guitar and does thunder damage. The khezu horn is cool, but i never really used it. Tigrex is decent, so i'd say go with that if zinogre's isn't readily available. And brachy? I lable his horn under "Awesome damage, but the songs are lack luster" Most of his songs are status negations, so unless you're going into a fight with a ton of status, you won't be playing a ton of songs. So, i guess the top 3 i say to use would be Zinogre's (The thunder line, not dragon), Najarala's horn (Like tigrex songwise, but can cause para, where tigrex's needs to be awakened for blast), and, if you can find someone with the basarios guild quest, Basarios' horn (Later on, it gets negation of stamina, and, if going with ruby basarios, the sleep element.
STAY AWAY FROM THE VALKYRIE CHORDMAKER. (It's not a bad horn, but the upgrade isn't complete yet, as you need g-rank gold rathian parts. So, make the horn and upgrade it as far as you can, but there are other horns that can takes it's place, and it's a bit of a pain to upgrade {Plates, Rubies, the usual complaints))
So Yeah, that's my two cents! It's really awesome to see someone else maining hunting horns! (I'm currently g-rank gold crown with hr 176)

oh my bad, totally forgot about the Zinogre Horn, but i like Khezu better, because of the creepy Style and i like the songs.
Oh trust me, there's no problem for liking a horn for how it looks, and the songs are meant for your playstyle! I just prefer to have all around horns in case someone faints. Otherwise, i try and use Teostra's horn as much as possible! (I quickly learned that all around horns like Gog's is amazing to have BECAUSE of the Act of Gog quest ;-;... so much fainting...)
While I am using the horn in multiplayer, there are people who run up to the monsters face and attack it while it's down and I don't have a good way to attack it without smacking someone else who's in my way.
Are there any combos that won't trip my team mates or do I have to speak up about this in every multiplayer session?
I remember when you said on thumblr that Knockout King and Stamina Thief are not worth it (and you were right!) on hammers/horns and now you show us your HH set with those skills. Some weird logic if you ask me.
Horn is fun to use but many monsters are either impossible to KO like Rajang or really tall like Najarala so you can't reach head. Zinogre is good monster to fight with HH but you won't always fight Zinogre. In most cases you end up smashing random monsters parts just to do "some" damage. Not as fun as it sounds on paper. Also compared to CB or Glaive, horns just feels underpowered so in most cases horn users are just supporting with songs and doing "some" damage to not feel completely useless.

Again, Brachydios, very easy monster to fight with horn. Head is easily accessible most of the time. I agree that horns are great versus certain monsters but you can't base your statement how weapon is "powerful" on few monsters. Now what about Rajang, Najarala, Chameleos etc. I know I'm kindo of doing it right now, but what I'd like to say is, horn is not good on everything unlike Glaive, CB, GS and many other. It works on some things and on other things just not.
antariantariantari The horn still deals very high damage even if you don't hit the head, and your teammates will love your buffs. It's a viable weapon for each and every monster. Saying Rajang's head is impossible to hit is true for every damn weapon, since being in front of that thing is suicide unless it's trapped, Najarala's head is nearly impossible to hit with all weapons, so that point is moot as well, I KO Chameleos regularly with the horn unless it's a stupidly huge one, so there goes that one as well. What else is there? Oh yes, none, you can easily reach most all monsters' heads and have higher DPS than hammer.

Yeah I'd like to see how many KO's you're doing to Cham with horn. I suspect it's max 1 per run which is just sad. "Really" worth it going for the head whole time and risking a lot. Also going for Cham head is suicide by it's own as on lv140 it'll poisonbreath you to death most of the time.
Considering the fact that you have to play that attack song to BARELY keep up with hammer damage output, your whole argument about it having higher DPS is moot.
The weapon itself was good few generations ago but in 4th is simply left in shadow as Charge Blade deals KO better, Hammer has higher damage output and is faster in general. There's also Glaive which get buffs for yourself. So you better go play songs for your team mates boy and stop dreamin. You're basically using nerfed hammer with cool gimmick (songs). It's definately viable but in most cases you end up using something which gets job done better'n faster.
There's only one thing which horns does better and it's called exhaust. But who really cares, monsters dies so fast either way...

Yeah, okay, arguing with you about this is absolutely pointless then. You only said what other weapons do better but completely disregarded what the horn does better, what with having great reach, amazing moveset and good DPS, not to mention the buffs, so you're completely biased on your opinion. Maybe you just suck at using the weapon, tried it a few times and then disregarded it as trash?

I've played a lot of HH and it's one of my favorite weapons but there are some things I still don't understand. I always wait for a song effect to end before I play it again, but I think I heard you mention "refreshing" a song? Wouldn't that just play the encore, which, if I had already activated it, would result in a wasted recital?

I am stuck at the G3 urgent quest against Gogmazios, and I am unable to solo it myself (even with a G-class maxed out armor set at that point plus a maxed out weapon). Is it possible if you make a tutorial on how to do it or if you know any websites that hunters meet each other just to help them pass some quest?
