    Until a year ago I only had the Zombro version of the Big Brother from Ka Bar's old Zombie Apocalypse series (now I have the standard too)! I used it in a swamp/bog to clear shooting lanes for arrows. Alot of branches and vines got chopped! The blade was still sharp, no problems! It does fast circular cuts and redirects instantly! I always thought it perfect for dueling and light duty chores, still do. I never abuse my weapons so ythe rat tail tang is no big deal. I love this brand!

    It was my first "serious knife" - and I still love it too! 😁 That baby is more for making someone a "boo-boo" rather than survival. It will handle "standard woodwork" although there are more efficient options.
    As for the handle, it's good to put some rubber o-rings in between these leather segments and the grip will improve significantly 🙂

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  3 года назад +5

      I agree 100%, but the o-rings should not be needed in the first place

      @@DonnieBAllDay True, yet we don't live in a perfect world - and what should be isn't always what is 🙂 Especially due to the fact that Ka-Bar is not among the most expensive blades - but I still must admit that their price vs. quality ratio is extraordinary!

    In my humble opinion, this knife really had a lot of potential as a true "wilderness" tool. Unfortunately, I think Ka-Bar dropped the ball. If they'd used .188" (3/16ths) stock, and drawn-back the tang at a height of 3/4" (instead of the ~1/2" it appears to be now), this knife really coulda' been a contender. Those two changes, and eliminating the serrated area on the spine, woulda' put this knife right up there with the Ontario SP-10, which is an incredibly strong piece. As I typed, just my humble opinion. Your mileage may vary.✌

    So a few things. For the people who say “it’s rat tail” okay… the rat tail on the kabar is so well made out of 1095 metal that your arm will break before the knife breaks as long as you use it for its purpose. The kabar is a FIGHTING knife. There’s 0 drawbacks. Handle is great, rat tail is great. You know what I don’t like about my handgun? How hard it makes it to hammer a nail on the wall compared to my hammer. (????). Big brother is a bigger variation of the classical kabar. The classic is much better than big brother. The fucking knife was used to kill a Kodiak bear hand to hand and it performed. What more can you ask for? You can find it for about 90$. Holy shit.

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  2 года назад +1

      A Buck 110 was also used to kill a bear. As far as the BB vs the Utility, the BB has so much of a better feel. The original has the worst mathematical POB of any military issued knife ever used. It was originally made using the diagram of a Remington hunting knife. Made for skinning deer, not combat. The reason it's still popular is due to nostalgia, not purpose. As a hunting knife though, it's damn hard to beat.
