- Servus everyone and welcome to this Austrian Airlines video to Tokyo Narita!
As soon as Japan opened up I had to make my way there. As I found myself in Croatia my quickest option was Austrian Airlines.
I don’t remember seeing any great feedback about them in recent online video’s and I had the impression that many cuts had taken place during Covid. The onboard chefs were gone and with them some of the iconic catering items.
And while I can tell you in advance that the catering does indeed need some improving, I’ve got to tell you that I was frankly very surprised with all the other things that are available! To such an extent that they’re actually able to rank amongst Europe’s best.
Join me in thanking the lovely set of cabin crew on this particular flight, with a special call out to the Japanese colleagues, for understanding my plane-geekness and being happy to show us all, all the Austrian touches that many of us are unaware of.

super entertaining & the generosity and customer care of the Austrian cabin crew drives me to fly with them next time I am headed to Europe in February 2023

Flew with Austrian this year from Vienna to Tokyo Narita in the 777 (economy) and I had a great experience. The crew was super friendly and it felt like a very comfortable flight. It was quite long (something like 13 hours to Tokyo and 14 back), we all know why. I was never in any discomfort. I read some people felt like this was outdated stuff and subpar but for me it felt great.
I love your approach to flying and your videos. I too love a tipple (or 3) when flying so it's nice to see you generously sample what the airlines have to offer versus just getting a 7up. Keep up the great long-haul content! Singapore soon? Yahoo!

Austrian used to fly year round but now only during the summer season. I think it’s as there are many Japanese visiting Europe in the summer.

Great flight report ... as usual 🍸The food looked OK, but as you said, it could be improved upon, but it was great to see that there were snacks and drinks between services. The blankets looked nice, would make a great addition to the collection that the misses loves from another airline 😜 Looking forward to the next flight 🥂

It’s not on the couch today though. Today one couch is covered with a purple Thai Economy Class blanket and the other from United Polaris 😂

i wonder when Austrian will start to upgrade their fleet they are all a bit old(all the 777 and the 767) they still have and they are staying behind all the European companies.

Vienna airport is very effective indeed. I rarely get to spend a lot of time so I’m not very familiar.
The safety video is a blast, I’m sure it must be a troll from Austrian to passengers because I can’t believe they’re serious!
The B767’s are on the way out to be replaced by B787’s, I think they just recently announced it.
And I think they stay behind as the LH group seems to invest more in LH, LX and EW.

Great video. As always, goes without saying 😊. I have an old justplanes video where their -200ER departs Sydney with flaps 20, I believe. It's was on the shorter runway (25, I think)
You are right!! I even searched in and rewatched it. Maybe it was due to the noise abatement procedure as the flight to KL is not that long, so I doubt the aircraft was that heavy? I guess we won’t know now!
@@TheLayoverAviation was a relatively short hop to Kuala Lumpur on its way back to Vienna. Apparently there was also an extraordinary situation sometime whereby the North/south runways were closed due to extreme winds.

If anything Austrian Airlines have one the best liveries ou there. They didn't have to change them much because they are just so damn perfect.
I yesterday saw in Bangkok their special livery celebrating their anniversary , even better!

i flew their 772 from JFK to Vienna 3 years ago, I love Austrian airlines, although their long haul fleets are little old compare to LH & LX , wish Austrian getting their long haul fleets renewal soon!
I think that the LH group just announced B787’s for Austrian!
And despite of the age, I think they look like new to me!

Thanks for the great video! Do you know anything about the "Legroom Seats" they are now offering on the 777-200ER for an additional €80? They are located between the premium economy seats and the regular economy seats. I can't find any information about them. It's not the same as the exit row seats.
So what is the Austrian drink. The lunch portion seemed small compared to the Middle East Airlines, also what is this vegetarian option only. Had the same thing last year in AF going to Mumbai. That was definitely a nice touch that they gave you a little wine taste. I would agree their selection of beverages for economy class was the best I have seen. Great to see a crew try to give a great experience more than just saying they are just for safety. Great video as always.

If it’s a rattle noise I think it’s just vibrations due to the thrust/engines. Happens on many aircraft depending on the location!

I love your videos and am an avid avgeek myself. When you take treats for the crew, how do you give it to them? Do you give it to the first cabin crew member you see when you board?

There’s always a moment and time for everything I guess, so I’ll try to find the right one once they’re not too busy. Mostly so try to board last in order not to disturb. It depends on the day. Sometimes I don’t bring anything at all.

I’m in Dubai and so far for this month I’ve had to visit Mumbai, Singapore and will visit Croatia for a break.

I my self am a flight attendant based in chicago but live in south new jersey. And have to say my favorite airplane is the A350 and favorite destination is Malaga Spain.

Hello, could you indicate the best seat numbers for taller people (in Economy class)? You mentioned the seats on the back which number? I'm 1.90 meter could I ask how tall you are( only as reference for the video)
I see at 19:40 that you are editing video on your iPad. Does it do a good job for you considering it'sa tablet? And do you edit in iMovie?
iPad is just the best for me. Simplicity and mobility was the easiest. Laptops or computers are heavy/not mobile, it takes time, and the iPad is just fast. The same goes for the iPhone. I transfer files quickly and it films in good quality, so my camera became obsolete.
The editing I do in something called VN editor.

The meals are good but tiny. And as to the snack on a 9 hour flight they give you "half" a sandwich. Fortunately I paid 25 Euros for a luxury meal which I shared with my travel companion who had the regular meal. Lufthansa and Swiss had the brilliant idea from the US airlines to serve lettuce as a starter which cuts costs considerably.
Are those upgraded meals still available? I thought they were gone.
I hope the Lufty group upgrades their choices. Swiss for now still is great in my opinion.

Quick Question: Do you need to cross migration if you are moving between terminals in the Vienna International Airport and the Narita International Airport?
yes. But he did not move between terminals, Viennas Terminal 3 was very well planned so he just needs to get two levels up. The international gates are just two levels up and same airbridges are used. For example:
Gate F 01 = Gate G 01. If your plane is a schengen flight, you will reach the airbridge by Gate F 01 at same level.
If your airplane is a non schengen flight, you will reach the airbridge (the exact one like Gate F 01) from two levels above down with an escalator.
Your arrival also depends if you come from schengen or not. If yes, you will be led one level higher and around immigration. If no, some doors switch and you will be led to immigration.

My favorite plane is the MD-11, but there are no more passenger versions flying. So now I would have to say that geek wise I like the B757 and comfort wise the A350 and A380.

Hi nice i love japan so much my friend from homeschool she's living in japan with his boyfriend i said "i want to live in japan" i always wanted to live in hokkaido the north prefecture of japan because is very populated and alot of skyscrapers
I wouldn’t live there as I would just be eating non stop and end up like a sumo wrestler. But I absolutely love the country. And yes, Hokkaido is something special! I hope you get to visit soon!

On the long-haul route, especially to Japan, things should go better with Austrian. As on the European flights with their A320 with their garden chairs (for which an extra €14 is charged in order to be able to use them) and as food with a cup of water and a chocolate thaler. An absolute scandal.

I have to mix and match everything, all airlines you mentioned except for Spirit are filmed.
The sole veggie pasta Y meal seems to be the go-to for the LH group. Pretty underwhelming.

I saw you checked in with Spaniard passport. Why not subtitles your travel report in our Spanish language to our Latino/ Hispanic subscribers.
The subtitles and editing take me ages!! So to translate it all would take me hours that I sadly don’t have. But I’ll try to work with various captions soon.

That much alcohol that you consume on a 11:30 flight i do in one week on the ground. Alcohol no matter which is a frontal attac to your immune system while sitting in an airplane. Since years i am drinking only water on long haul flights. 1,5 litres at least.
I barely drink when I work. And it makes flying so much fun for me.
I drink even more water, 1,5L on short haul and at least 3L on long flights.
And I don’t finish it all! (mostly..)
Look at the bright side. The longer flights around Ukraine give you more time to drink.
