I'm thinking of getting the nikon d5500, with Nikon 35mm f1.8G, Nikon 50mm G version then a manual focus nikon lens for making some short films but I don't know what focal length to go for.
+James Lin if you're gonna get those two and one more I would go with a wider zoom lens. A more narrow zoom lens has its advantages, but if you are doing more short films and nothing like weddings (where you have to stand back far) then I would start with more of a wide lens like the one I showed in this vid!
I have a 70-300mm VR lens and I'm quite happy with it. I also have an old 28mm prime. The main problem is nikon not supporting their old lenses without converters.
I have a Nikon D5300. I do beauty videos & I need a lens that is quiet when it’s focusing.... are any of these lenses you mentioned quiet? Thank you so much in advance!
Thank you very much for the information. I already have the Nikon 35mm. I hope you could make a video regarding lenses that are good in Auto Focus since honestly Nikon is lagging behind when it comes to auto focus.
I have a Nikon d3400 and I'm going to be traveling soon and maybe making a vlog and taking a bunch of pictures and stuff what lens do you recommend for travel vlogging that can zoom and let's you see more of the landscape but also can face me so I can speak to the camera
I have Nikon D5100 I need a good lens to shoot videos at night, outdoor for cars and car wash and detailing videos. I have the standard 18-55mm nikkor but it needs high bright light. I purchased YONGNUO YN 50mm f/1.8 it is a great camera but for shooting the whole car you need to go back a long distance. What is your advice?
nice basic information video sam..i also agree for the 35mm I have it all the time with my d7100..just when I shoot video isn't that fast autofocus..maybe is the lv of my d7100?I'll appreciate your thoughts, thanks
By the way that 35 your holding is a Dx lens for crop sensor cameras and has the focal equivalent of 50mm not 35mm. Good lens but not for fx cameras. For fix bodies you can get the 50 mm 1.8
It really just depends on how zoomed in you want the lens to be. The difference between 50 and 35 is the focal distance. The other difference would also be the amount of blur (or depth of field) your lens will give. The 50 will provide more blur, but obviously if you are shooting a video of someone talking to the camera, for example, they will need to be further back. So it's really up to you! Both options are good!
hiya Rebecca, if you have (or planning to get) a crop sensor nikon - (like nikon d3300, d7200 etc) go for the 35mm, you'll find the 50mm too 'zoomed in' especially for indoors - so if you get the 50mm first (like I did) you'll need to stand further back for the same photos and sometimes you cannot simply because a room can be too small for that and there's no more space left behind you (very true for London where I live)
Great video I'm a newbie but my brother is getting married in the summer and would like to capture some nice pics to make a photo book for them. Would the first two lens work on a d5300 Nikon ? The first one sounds great bc one of the things I really want it blurry background. My camera came with two lens but I can't make a blur background only on close up items - can't do it on people. However I think it is bc me not the lens they come with ? I'm not sure -
Yes! These lenses work with the D5300, which is actually the camera I use regularly! And the first one (35mm) is my favorite because of the awesome sharp and vibrant image, but also that sweet looking blury background!
hey sam all the way from suriname, my camera is a nikon d3200, which lenses cant i use for filming at night, becouse my stander lens 18_55 mm is giving me a lots of video noise, even when i set up my camera on low light.
You’re gonna want a lens with a lower number “f-stop”. So looks for a lens that is somewhere around a f/1.8 or so. That’s gonna allow the most light to come in
If I want the 35mm lens will I need a mount or anything . I have a d5300 Nikon camera , the kit lens I just put them right on would it be the same with the 35mm ? Or will I need a mount ?
Hi Sam, I need your advice. I need a zoom lense that Works specifically well in low light áreas as I will be shooting weddings, churches and group portraits. My camera is a Nikon D5300. I currently have a prime 35mm 1.8 which is great but do however require a zoom lens. Also have the kit lens 18-55mm but it´s terrible in low light situations. Could you please recommend me a lense and if posible it could also have Autofocus and Vibration Reduction. Please Advice. Many thanks for your kind attention.
Well that's the tough part about lenses... Theres 3 Desired Elements: Good in Low Light, Far Zoom, Not a Bank Breaker. Typically you can't get all three. You normally can just pick two. With that being said, the best option I found is a Tameron 28-75 f/2.8 = amzn.to/2qp1PII . It has decent reviews but they arent perfect so it might be something to look into. Not a TERRIBLE price but not cheep either.
i have the nikon d5300 with af-p lens 18-55mm vr and its so good....I suggest to you a light room to have a better quality. This camera ( nikon d5300) is better than i thought first.
I have a Nikon D3300 and I started a RUclips channel. I want a lens that is A-F and doesn’t make the little noise when it’s focusing I also want the background to be blurry. What do you recommend?
Actually on my camera (Nikon D5300) the autofocus is not compatible with the Tokina lens. While the Tokina lens AF does work with some cameras it doesn't work with all
good job, very well explained man and glad you did use some sample shots making a video about dslr lenses lol :) subbed! i currently have the nikon d5300 with the 18-55 i record at 60fps looks like i am going to get the last one you talked about Thanks
My d5300 came with af-p dx . Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6g VR lens and a af-p dx nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3g ed lens . Do you know the pros / cons of these ? I'm not sure how to get blurt background on people and sometimes when I take a pic it takes forever to actually click and get the picture . Thanks !:)
The cons are that they are your kit lenses, mean that they are not the highest quality but they are a good start. Another big con is that they don't let in much light. That "f/" number, the lower you can get the number the better. The lower that number the more light can enter the lens. For example, the 35mm mentioned in this vid is f/1.8 (really good) where your 11-55mm is at f/3.5 (not as good). As for it taking a long time to take a picture, that might be because you are on auto focus. Try focusing on something and then turn off auto focus (if the subject doesn't move distances away from the lens). You camera is likely trying to refocus for every picture.
Thank you for responding !! :) I posted to a lot , A LOT , of people's videos with questions and only two people responded . Thank you for being one of them! I though that af-p is not auto focus like for videos and that only af-s models were auto focus so they would be great for video taking but the more I read I get confused . Now my understanding is that af-p is auto focus you just control it through the camera settings whereas the other you control on the mode switch on the lens itself. My biggest wAnt right now is to take the wedding pictures and get sharp crisp beautiful photos and many I wish to have with blurry background ! I think you sold me on the 35mm . Just one more question how do you feel about the Nikon - AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Standard Lens ? (Vs the 35mm?)
Personally I feel very similar about the 50mm as I do about the 35. I feel for me it is a little more tight than I want it to be (considering I can't zoom out) so in tight situations it wouldn't work great, so I feel like with the 35 I can't "Zoom" but I can "zoom with my feet" by just getting closer, where you might not be able to back up in a tight room situation. I did wedding videos too, and used the 35mm all the time
Okay 35 it is 👏🏽👏🏽 thanks so much !! I appreciate the answers , suggestions, feedback and info !! (Might be back with more questions though 😊) I'm going to check out your other videos for sure !
Hey, Sam! I have a doubt Why did you recommend the 55-200mm? I'm thinking in buying a new zoom lens, but I was wondering if the 70-300mm would be a good option, instead the 55-200mm. Thanks! I liked the video. it's very good. Keep going
Hey! Well I think it completely depends on what you are trying to do with the lens, and the pics or video your are trying to get. What do you plan on doing with your lens?
Do more research. It isn't just about a lens. Lighting, tripod, different shooting techniques, and editing are all just as important. Having a better balance while not having the most expensive lens/camera combo is way more important for a professional final result.

Hi please I’m using NikonD5600 and I need a guide on which good lens with portrait background to buy, would appreciate if you can help me!
How will would these lenses work with a full frame camera? I’ve got a Nikon d800e, that I’m looking for video lenses for.
Brother u should have included footage ..It would have been easier to understand then
Sunny Dutta roy the footage is the video.
Thank you very much for the information. I already have the Nikon 35mm. I hope you could make a video regarding lenses that are good in Auto Focus since honestly Nikon is lagging behind when it comes to auto focus.
I agree. That is my biggest complaint with The Nikon D5300. Autofocus while shooting video isn't good.... :(
I have a Nikon d3400 and I'm going to be traveling soon and maybe making a vlog and taking a bunch of pictures and stuff what lens do you recommend for travel vlogging that can zoom and let's you see more of the landscape but also can face me so I can speak to the camera
TornPaperYoyo 50mm prime and 55-105mm it will be enough for you .
You incorrectly listed the aperture for the 2nd lens. It's not a f4.5. It's a variable aperture lens. It goes from 4 at 55mm, to 5.6 at 200mm.
I love how you explained everything in your video.. thank you
Thank so much!I will get the 35mm.
what's kind of camera that you 're using for this video?
nice basic information video sam..i also agree for the 35mm I have it all the time with my d7100..just when I shoot video isn't that fast autofocus..maybe is the lv of my d7100?I'll appreciate your thoughts, thanks
Nice job sam!!!! BTW you look like DeBruyne!
Don't know who that is but I'll take it as a complement.
Sam DeZeeuw lol Kevin DeBruyne... a popular footballer. It was a compliment.
Kagan Manchester City 2017-2018 EPL Champions!
By the way that 35 your holding is a Dx lens for crop sensor cameras and has the focal equivalent of 50mm not 35mm. Good lens but not for fx cameras. For fix bodies you can get the 50 mm 1.8

Of course!
Pliz in next video explain how to shoot video with the same Nixon camera pliz
I have all these 3 lenses plus the 50mm f1.8 D, they are all beautiful lenses. I'm now looking to get a standard zoom to complete my set of lenses
Hi do you prefer the 50mm or the 35mm for the f1.8 I’m unsure which to go for

Hello everyone! I purchased a Nikon D5200 and I really need your advice about the lens for that camera. Thank you!
No body the 35mm prime is great for that model... that was starter camera and it did me well for 5yrs .
Very useful video brother. Thanks and cheers!

Does the autofocus on the Tokina lens work as well? Since the AF-S lenses have stabilisation during videos how is it working with the Tokina lens?
Actually on my camera (Nikon D5300) the autofocus is not compatible with the Tokina lens. While the Tokina lens AF does work with some cameras it doesn't work with all
what would be the most comparable lens to the tokina lens that you used for this video that would work and be compatible with the nikon d5300
Great,Very useful tips.Thanks

love it! :)
Very useful video! I am thinking of getting the 35mm lens.
Ooooooo thats a good one..! hah What camera are you using?
Sam DeZeeuw a nikon d90, only used it with the kit lense 18-105mm

Best Nikon lens for autofocus (fast and silent)?
man good job but how a prime lens can be good for make video it has no VR
Hey, Sam! I have a doubt
Why did you recommend the 55-200mm? I'm thinking in buying a new zoom lens, but I was wondering if the 70-300mm would be a good option, instead the 55-200mm.

Hey! Well I think it completely depends on what you are trying to do with the lens, and the pics or video your are trying to get. What do you plan on doing with your lens?
Sam DeZeeuw
Hmm... I was thinking in far portraits and any objects I can't get close enough, like people, birds, or other animals
Deepesh Raj Really? Well, in that case I might buy the 55-200 instead.
There are versions with VR, but I dunno if it's enough good.

Will autofocus with these lenses cause that annoying autofocus sound.
