Sustainable Clear Cutting: Ponsse Ergo H8 in Dormant Aspen & Hardwood Forest | Wisconsin Logging

The land I’m cutting was clear-cut 30 years ago and hasn’t been managed since. The hardwood here is super dormant, and we’re now working to bring it back to life by cutting to Wisconsin MFL specs. This involves cleaning up the area and adding four clear cuts for aspen regeneration.
We’re also doing a leave-tree select cut, where we remove many stems but leave the trees that will eventually grow into bolts, saw logs, and veneer. By doing this, we’re encouraging these trees to put on size and jump to the next size class. We’re leaving all the oak trees, while aspen, maple, white birch, hickory, ash, and cherry are all present.
