Čudnovata Klo i think logically speaking as long as there are people who refer to themselves as Bosnian, there is a Bosnia. For example, say Croatians chose to leave and go to Croatia because of money, culture, whatever reason. Bosnia doesn’t stop existing, it just has less Croats than before. Same for Serbs. But to say that you are Croat/Serb, and not even say “hey, i’m a christian Bosnian, I want to be apart of this country just as much as my muslim countrymen because my roots are from here as much as theirs and I want to progress together.” is a bit crazy. To deny the flag with the Bosnian flueur de lis is strange, because if it is christian, and the muslims still want it to return as the symbol of the country, then whats the issue? It’s extremely disappointing because Bosnia is so split for absolutely no reason (minus the war of course which was fueled by illogical propaganda). If everyone had come together and created a unified country with its own people (the Bosnian people), a national referendum would’ve most likely taken place to replace the flag (and the anthem because it’s also a rip-off).

@@dzenanbrkic9606 was that the flag with crosses on the bar? Where was it used? It's interesting that Bosnia never had a flag through modern history. Really shows that there was not a unifying political or ethnic character associated with it.
3:20 the cross ornament thing on the white stripe isn't a historical thing, the original ornament is a floral pattern that you can find also on manuscripts and toombstones in bosnia. By the way love your channel.
correct, the original is made of 3 circles representing grapes, bunch of grapes were symbol of prosperity at that time. Crosses were added from serbs and croats, to show that side of kingdom, to show that belonged to them, not Bosniaks, which sadly, they see as a turks.
Today's flag is enforced, we don't like it. Real flag Bosnia is lily. latin "Lilium bosniacum" 03:27 the flag is wrong and not correct. There were no crosses but runolists. Bosnia was a unified Sanjak up to 1580, it then became a paşalik up to 1833. Herzegovina did not have an independent province up to 1833. It was a first part of Bosnian Sanjak, then of Bosnia paşalik and then became a ejalet in 1833.
You’re right, the name Herzegovina stuck during the Austro-Hungarian occupation, which is unfortunate. Hopefully, Herzegovina will be considered as just another historical province, although this idea does anger a lot of Herzegovinians. This situation reminds me of the modern-day Swedish province of Skåne which has a relatively similar history to Herzegovina. Today, though, Sweden isn’t called “Sweden and Skåne.” We Bosnians like to overcomplicate things.
Fleur de lis symbolises Holy trinity, and it was used as a symbol of entire Kotromanić dynasty, which at one point ruled not only Bosnia, but also parts of Serbia. However, in 1992 only one of three nations that live in Bosnia used it as it's flag during the war, so it had to be replaced in 1998, in order to try to satisfy everyone.
No, it's not a Christian symbol. There are stecci with Ljiljani (not "Fleur de Lis") that are carbon-dated and said to be over 1600 years old (so made and carved around 400 A.D.), when Bosniaks/Bosnjani weren't even Christian. It's a pre-Christian symbol that was also used by some Illyrian tribes (ironically, a tribe called "Bassania" (= Bosnia), and a few others).
@@DobriBosnjanin1832 Those are 100% Fleur de lis (Lis being french for lilly - or ljiljani in the balkans) - a common heraldic symbol, especially in catholic Europe. No, the stechci are NOT 1600 years old (as well as bosniaks not existing back then, and slavs in general not living in the balkans), the first ones were made in the late 12th century. Also there´s no proof of Bassanians ever having those symbols. The only known symbols of Illyrian tribes are the morning star and the half moon.
@@madcro8209 Are you dumb or are you in denial? First of all, the "Fleur de Lis" look different than our Golden Lilies; Look it up and see it for yourself. It's not a huge difference, but there's one. Second of all, how come the Lilies were used by Bosnjani, when we had our own church (Bosnian Church), and it's a "Catholic symbol"? The Bosnian Church "didn't believe"/didn't pray to a Trinity, only in/to God himself (that's why many Bosnjani converted to Islam after the Ottomans conquered Bosnia). This made me seriously mad. Are you denying the fact that carbon-dating is a thing? Look it up for yourself, it's literally proven. I know you're ignorant, but science is a real thing, ya know. "bAsSaNiA diDn'T uSe liLiEs"... Again, ignorance at its finest; Read the book "Bosansko Kraljevstvo" and you'll see proof of Bassania using the lilies on some coins, crafted metals, and other stuff. And also, Bosniaks are Illyrians. The most trusted and most professional genetic institute in Europe, as well as the University of Oxford (ranked as the 4th best university in the world), have proven that, genetically, Bosniaks have mostly "Illyrian" genes/DNA, and it (the DNA-percentage) is even higher than that of Albanians (second highest in the world, behind Bosnian Croats). Like I said in these "individual responses", I'll say it again: Please, read some TRUSTED books and scripts, and try to argue with someone who actually knows stuff about history, instead of reading stuff on Wikipedia.
Well true, the term Bosniak was as during 18th and 19th century used to describe the general population in contemporary Bosnia, regardless of religion and other identities
@@ЈованВулетић-у3с ahahah omG, delete that comment please. This is our flag @Istorijat BH, bcause that flag represents our country. We didn't choose it, but its still our flag.
Oh, since people asked: Hezegowina and Bosnia are just regions in the country, they're not clearly defined. Bosnia is generally the northern parts, Herzegowina is the southern parts :)
Its stupid and honestly quite sad that bosnians are practically extinct, i think that regardless of a persons religion we should all identify as Bosnian first and muslim/orthodox/catholic second.
I think one important thig was neglected - the Bosnian Serbs usualy do not use (or may even reject) the Bosnian flag, but rather use the Republika Srpska regional flag which is nearly identical to the flag of Serbia. This is a consequence of the Bosnian civil war, which itself was part of the Yugoslav Wars. Bosnia & Herzegovina consists of two large entities - the Bosniak-Croat dominated Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the Serbian dominated lands form the Republika Srpska. The third and smaller entity is the Brčko District, which does not have a distinct flag
In 925 AD the Kingdom of Croatia was recognised by the Pope in Rome. At that time Croatia bordered Bulgaria on the Drina river as "Raska" (Serbia) was a region of Bulgaria ruled by Simeon I of Bulgaria. Bosnia was then a part of Croatia until 1102 when Croatia & including Bosnia enter an union with the Hungarian crown.
One thing actually, the "second flag" with crosses in the white stripe is kinda wrong, the cross is supposed to be clover but everything except that is on point!

The flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina is nice and unique. But, in my opinion, a coat of arms could be more... interesting? Kinda looks like the guys responsible for creating national symbols only cared about the flag, and when it came to coat of arms they were like: "Pfft, idk, just slam a flag pattern on it, that will do". Too little historical symbolism for my liking. But, still, great video and nice choice for it))
Today's national flag doesn’t really represent Bosnia's history, in my opinion. It was kind of hastily designed after the signing of the Dayton peace agreement. I would personally like for the flag to be redesigned (if Bosnia turns into a republic) so that the original medieval coat of arms is present.
@Mirza Sarajlić why is it a joke? Why do we have the same last name in a lot of examples and why do bosniaks doesnt have it today? The lily was a symbol almost in every christian country at that time.
@Mirza Sarajlić Have you a proof that he identified as bosnian nationality? No, you dont have. Let me explain, croats came about year 619.-622. to the western Balkans from around the area of Poland. The rule of croatian dukes of was spreaded to todays Croatia (without Istria), Bosnia, Herzegowina, Boka Kotorska, Vojvodina and some parts of Hungary. Duke Tomislav became first croatian king in 925. at the "Duvanjsko polje" by Tomislavgrad who carry his name today. Croatian kingdom was also ruling in todays Bosnia and Herzegowina. Well, in 1102.the last croatian king died at Petrova Gora, you gess his name was Petar, Petar Svacic and whole Croatia fell under Hungary rule. The croatian royalties and nobel people saw that they cannot return the state to indipendence so a Slawlonian nobel, Kulin ban (ban is known to be only as a nobel title in Croatia) stated a contract with Dubrovnik Republic known as the "Povelja Kulin bana" in 1189.as a begining of Bosnian state and later on kingdom. You have other ban-s as Hrvoje Vukcic Hrvatinic, what state his name who he is. How come Kotromanic and Kotromanovic is a last name in todays croatian people and not in bosnian people? However, as a proud Bosnian you should know that Bosnia was spread around the same teritory as Kingdom of Croatia without only the northern teritory in todays Lika, Zagreb and Slawonia who was in Hungary at that time. So, it is not wrong if you tell me that I am a Bosnian Catholic/Ortodox just as you are a Croatian Muslim/Ortodox :) Research what happend to Croatian Ortodox Church... Peace :)
@Mirza Sarajlić 1) The after 1995 documents? Or you trying to claim the Illyrian people as Bosnian? 2) Not a single document in your imagination, but Rome mentions him very well, and the Pope also, refering to him as Tomislau Rex Croatorum and even by your belief that he he wasnt a king still changes nothing becouse croatian kingdoms east border was on the river Drina by any croatian king at the trone and you can research that if you are not a nationalistic scumbag! 3) not a single ban was croatian? Hrvoje Vukcic Hrvatinic nije hrvat? Thats like you say Croaje Vukcic Croatić isnt a croat? What about ban Jelacic? What about Kulin ban? Kulin ban is a slawonian, Slawonia is a croatian region... just like Bosnia, Boka, Vojvodina, Herzegowina... now, religion played a big role by deviding the Croatian people. The croatian ortodox church fell under the rule of the serbian ortodox church and croatian ortodox became suddenly serbs, and croatian muslims became bosniaks. Well, the bonsiaks have a historical backround to be a nation while tje serbs doesnt becouse they never had a state or majority western of Drina. The bosniak backround I already explained to you and you can except it with respect to the truth or you can be a "balkanska neobrazovana seljacina" and reject it. Its your choice. Bit remember this, Bosnian state is to Croatia what Austria/Österreich is to Germany. Too bad we didnt create no 'switzerland' in the Balkans so we have a bank-state like the germans have but we have what we have and we should keep it safe and in peace. Cheers my buddy, we are landsman 😎
@Mirza Sarajlić nemam ja problem s bosanskim poveljama kralju!
Still we in Bosnia consider flag with 6 lily flowers as real Bosnian flag. But Serbs and Croats does not accept because they consider it as flag that is made in war from 92-95., and does not have history. We all know that Bosnian flag is flag from Bosnian Kingdom, but as I can see someone from outside should teach those people about history of Bosnian flag...

correct, the original is made of 3 circles representing grapes, bunch of grapes were symbol of prosperity at that time. Crosses were added from serbs and croats, to show that side of kingdom, to show that belonged to them, not Bosniaks, which sadly, they see as a turks.

Today's flag is enforced, we don't like it.
Real flag Bosnia is lily. latin "Lilium bosniacum"

the flag is wrong and not correct.
There were no crosses but runolists.
Herzegovina has never been a state, and is not today.
Herzegovina is only a region of the State of Bosnia.

@@madcro8209 Oh wait... I see it now! You're a fascist! An Ustaša! Keep dreaming, and you'll maybe experience 1% of our history, ancestry, and pride.

Modra boja na bijelome platnu, šest Liljana vezeni u zlatu... To je zastava naša Bosanska! ⚜️
Im from bosnia,ty for making this :)
The lily symbol is from the croatian/bosnian royal family coat of arms Kotromanic.
@Mirza Sarajlić why is it a joke? Why do we have the same last name in a lot of examples and why do bosniaks doesnt have it today?
The lily was a symbol almost in every christian country at that time.
@Mirza Sarajlić
Have you a proof that he identified as bosnian nationality?
So, it is not wrong if you tell me that I am a Bosnian Catholic/Ortodox just as you are a Croatian Muslim/Ortodox :)
Research what happend to Croatian Ortodox Church...
@Mirza Sarajlić nisam ti ni jedan komentar izbrisao 🤷🏻♂
