    These were so nostalgic to my childhood because of when I was in pre school they had these lights in the cafeteria and they used to let me turn them on

      i remember in my elementary school my librarian let me turn on the 2 preheat pl can lights at the shelves and sometimes also the lamp in the computer area.

    These bulbs have their own startup sequence just like a computer

    At the fish collecting place they only use these lights, and at the wall outside the building, they somehow can install a wall mounted mercury vapor street light at the wall, one was replaced with HP Sodium. And inside a office they use preheat fluorescent, but some of them were used as led bulbs on a preheat fixture

    My school has two gyms and one of them uses fluorescent tubes while the other one uses metal halide bulbs but the fixtures themselves are completely different from these. Half of the fixtures have bulky covers while the other half have flat lenses (possibly due to the covers melting from all the heat the bulb generates). Four of the fixtures got replaced with LED and one fixture had it’s bulb changed to run a sodium lamp! Most of them give out different light outputs which is pretty cool.

      They also should’ve had coated bulbs for less glare. Clear metal halides are not good indoors.

    My Elementary school had Metal Halides in the gym when I was there, and they hardly burned out as they seemed to cycle all the time when they needed to be replaced, and several years ago they were all changed out to Fluorescent High Bays!

      They were probably white hps because hps are the only ones that cycle

    I remember seeing Metal Halide fixtures exactly like this in an indoor soccer field many years ago. I mainly am into elevators but I like lighting some which I have two cheap industrial fixtures at my house.

    Cool! at my old school they only used Mercury Vapour lamps in the big Hall where we used to play inside sports or have drama classes The fixtures had no covers they were just shielded inside an open aluminium dome I asked the caretaker what the wattages of those lamps lamps are & he replied I think there 200 watts each if I can remember there were 14 Mercury Vapour light fixtures in the hall

    I looked at some spare fixtures stored away (of the same type) and found that they are 250watt MH and are 208volts. The big ones are made by Day-Brite.

    • @Vinnay94
      @Vinnay94 2 года назад

      Back rooms use Fluorescent Tubes which are similar tech, but yeah, backrooms with either Metal Halide or High Pressure Sodium lamps would be cool.

    Love them! I have 3 fixtures that look identical to these, mine are 400 watt so i bet these may also be, the bigger ones at least. I don't have the smaller one although I want some. Great video.

    There's a shop in my town which uses some industrial looking lights which producing similar light like these, but the sound they producing... Well, the actual sound is not humming - a little hard to describe it - but it sounds like the filament is resonating in the bulb or something like that... Quiet and pleasant sound... 😏 💡

  • @douro20
    @douro20 12 лет назад +2

    That depends on the fill gas...some of them, particularly ceramic ones, have a xenon fill gas which strikes with a bright white color...

    Do some lights like those have a halogen or some other type of bulb that’s turns on while the metal halide bulb warms up, then turns off when the bulb is fully
    Powered?

    the larger fixtures look to be 400 watt, and the smaller may be 250 watt, both with reflaectors on the dome and what looks to be s glass or plasic refractor

    in my middle school, they use 400 watt mh fixtures in the gym. there are NO covers on the bottom and some of them have mold on them. whenever i play a game in gym, the ball always gets missed by a couple inches from hitting the light!! and also i have seen 2 fluorescent bulbs already burn out in the cafetiria!!

      Some kids was playing football in the gym and one of them kicked it so high it got stuck on the ceiling so then the teacher tried to kick another ball up there to get it down but he accidentally ended up hitting the light fixture instead and the cover fell and broke.
