    The scientific name for Devil's Backbone succulent plant, Pedilanthus tithymaloides, means foot-shaped flower. The plant is native to the American tropics but only hardy in USDA zones 9 and 10.
    It makes a superb houseplant with its 2-foot tall stems, alternate leaves and colorful “flowers” which are actually bracts or modified leaves.
    Growing the plant is easy and propagation even simpler. Just cut a 4- to 6-inch section of the stem from the plant. Let the cut end callus for a few days and then insert it into a pot filled with succulent potting mix. Keep the potting mix lightly moist until the stems root. Then repot the new plants in a good succulent potting soil. Care of devil’s backbone babies is the same as the adult plants.
    Care:
    Devil’s backbone houseplant likes bright indirect sunlight. Plant in direct sun in fall and winter, but give it a little protection from stinging hot rays in spring and summer. Just turning the slats on your blinds can be enough to keep the tips of the leaves from sizzling. Water the plants when the top few inches of soil feel dry. Keep it only moderately moist, yet not soggy. The plant produces the best growth with a once per month fertilizer solution diluted by half. Devil’s backbone houseplant does not need to be fed in the dormant seasons of fall and winter. Choose a draft free location in the home when growing Pedilanthus indoors. It doesn’t tolerate cold breezes, which can kill off the tips of the growth.

    I didn't know that they are succulents, i potted them in my regular soil and they are with me for quite long and now i got to know that they need cacti soil for better growth. I'll repot them in different kind of mix very soon.
    Thanks for this great info

    • @WhimsyCrafter
      @WhimsyCrafter  4 года назад +1

      Yes these are succulents. But I would like to tell you that if they are already doing well in the existing soil,do not change the potting media. Plants are by nature quite resilient. They will try and adapt and thrive in even the most adverse conditions. Unless your plant shows any signs of being stressed,do not replant it.

      Immortal Firefly, Hi 😊
      Yeah,very few succulents like Euphorbia Millis are tolerant of the process you're talking about.
      Even if you don't let them heal,they root just fine.
      But for other succulents you need to be careful.
      Nevermind. Now you know where you went wrong. Give it another go. And always remember to do this before plant succulents from cuttings

    • @WhimsyCrafter
      @WhimsyCrafter  8 месяцев назад +1

      These are succulents by nature. They do well with little to no watering. I water them very irregularly. Yellowing does not indicate lack of water but excess of it,besides other reasons like fungal attack,which again is caused due to overwatering.
      Depending on where you live and how much sunlight this plant gets...you should consider watering everytime the soil dries out. Choice of media is also important..you can use plain sand to grow this. It will grow just fine and it won't get too overwatered as well.

Many months gone, due to less take care, almost every leaves from the plant fell down...but few days ago, suddenly I noticed that few new branches came out from sides, but in the main stem, there is no leaves. • @WhimsyCrafter
      @WhimsyCrafter  4 года назад +4

      Hello Agnes.😊
      Thank you so much for watching this video. Regarding your query,
      Devil's Backbone/Jacob's Ladder/ Pedilanthus no matter what you call it,is the easiest succulent that I have worked with,after Euphorbia Millis. They love full sun,a well draining soil and like dry phases in between watering. They grow readily from cuttings- the ones I used in these video are infact cuttings given to me by my colleague,and they are doing great..😃
      Their growth slows down in winter,but come spring and then summer,there is no stopping them.
      This is one such succulent that can be kept indoors,in a well lit area,without much trouble.
      I think I covered almost all the points.
      If there's anything else you need help with,please feel free to ask.
      I will definitely make a care video on this one once the temperatures here normalize a little. Stay tuned to my channel😊

      Depends on what soil you are using. Use sand and soil,mixture in 1:1 ratio,mix in a pinch of fungicide and plant your plants.
      If there are rotten portions,cut them off. Let the cut portion dry out for a day or two...and then plant it.

      Hello CandyCane.
      This plant is a type of succulent,and as far as I know,placing succulents in water would result in rotting.
